‘The Expendables 2′ Trailer Has Arrived! Explosions! One-Liners! More Explosions! Chuck Norris!
There are a lot of haters out there for The Expendables, which I don’t understand. Out of any movie franchise out there right now, it clearly knows what kind of movie it wants to make, and packs it full of the actors who are going to do that well. It was a star-studded action movie that provided action and stars. Great success. So believe me when I tell you how excited I am for the second one. The cast list has expanded to include almost every possible action star from the 80′s on including some new faces and a hell of a lot more action.
If you don’t like good movies or enjoying things then you haven’t seen The Expendables. Let me clue you in. Sylvester Stallone, Jason Statham, Jet Li, Mickey Rourke, Dolph Lundgren, Randy Couture, and Terry Crews are an elite team of mercenaries who kick a lot of ass. They go up against Eric Roberts, Steve Austin (That’s Stone Cold to some of you) and an entire country and its army. No Big Deal. Oh and Arnold Schwarzenegger and Bruce Willis stop by for a convo with Sly.
The sequel brings back almost the whole team while adding Chuck Norris, Liam Hemsworth, Nan Yu and pumping up Ah-nuld and Willis’ roles. They are all going up against the Universal Soldier himself, Jean-Claude Van Damme. And probably a couple of armies armed with nukes and robots and whatever they have invented that can kill Chuck Norris.
Hit the jump to watch the trailer. Less talk, more boom.

‘Todd & The Book of Pure Evil’ Has Been Cancelled…
That’s almost what this entire article was going to be. No lie. Three words and then a picture of a sad hamster or something.
I was distraught with the news that my favorite show had been cancelled. I’m not even saying favorite show right now, or favorite Canadian show. No, it has swiftly evolved into my FAVORITE show. And it has been cancelled by SPACE, the Canadian network who brought Todd to the small screen. Now if you’ve been a fan of Grizzly Bomb since the beginning, then you would know the site started when our Editor-in-Chief Dr. Kronner tried to save one of his favorite shows, Terriers. So I feel I am obligated to do the same for Todd & The Book of Pure Evil.
I’ve interviewed some of the cast members (interview with Chris Leavins) and had a genuine man boner for the show since I first started watching. Now this won’t be an article filled with hate for the network, as I know there are a lot of issues with producing a show and keeping it profitable. I am grateful that SPACE was able to bring me 2 seasons of ridiculous awesomeness. There isn’t a show out there that is quite like Todd, and I urge you to watch it immediately (legally and in full view of the networks).
Creator/ Executive Producer/ Writer/ Director Craig David Wallace was honored by the Writer’s Guild of Canada Screenwriting Awards where he announced that SPACE would not be renewing Todd, and fans around the world joined me in the sadness. I really do mean around the world. Todd airs in the US on FEARnet, in the UK on SyFy, and has been picked up in Denmark, Sweden, Norway and Germany. So despite the seemingly success of the show, a huge and growing fanbase, and a phenomenal crew that was continuing to improve as the series went on it was still cancelled. Ratings have been cited as being low, which I can understand. A lot of people are watching the show, but not enough are doing it in ways that register with the networks.
Now cancelled doesn’t always mean cancelled. There are a lot of ways the show could continue away from SPACE if other networks show interest in continuing the series. Its happened before with many shows. I actually think this would be the best thing possible, as it would get the show out to more people than SPACE currently is able too. While you are able to stream it still through SPACEcast, that doesn’t help if you don’t know about SPACEcast. If Todd managed to get on a major US market I think it would absolutely explode.

Hero Express: Marvel Sequels, Sin City 2 (Finally), and Ron F#$%ing Swanson!
Welcome back to the Hero Express, your one-stop sometimes SPOILER filled shop through the top five stories in comic based Film & TV news!
News on Marvel Sequels!
Which sequels? Well, pretty much all of them. Iron Man 3, Thor 2, Captain America 2, Avengers 2… Yep. That many. But this is the Express so let’s speed through this. First check out this interview with Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige. He talks about pretty much every character in The Avengers.
Here is a handy list of highlights to entice you further:
- He’s seen an unfinished version of The Amazing Spider-Man and says it is excellent and should quiet concerns over the idea of rebooting the franchise.
- They have an option for Whedon to direct The Avengers 2 when and if the time comes.
- There are currently no plans to do a new Hulk movie with Mark Ruffalo.
- Iron Man 3 starts filming in five weeks in North Carolina.
- When approaching Iron Man 3, their gut instinct was to not make it be a pseudo-Avengers 2. It’s a full-on Tony Stark movie.
- Iron Man 3 is inspired by the first half of Iron Man 1 in that they’re metaphorically putting Tony back in the cave. He’s stripped of everything, back against a wall, and has nothing but his intelligence to get him out.
- Filming on Thor 2 begins in three months in London and it picks up where the first film left off in terms of Jane and Oden.
- Thor 2 also addresses what’s been happening in the nine realms with the Asgardians unable to use the Bifrost.
- Loki has a part in Thor 2, but there will be a different, big villain.
- The crux of Thor 2 is continuing the dynamic between Thor and Jane, as well as the relationship between Thor and Odin.
- Feige says there are no plans for Marvel and Pixar to team up on a feature.
- Creative talks have been progressing for years between Marvel and Disney about possibly doing a Marvel property as an animated film.
- Edgar Wright did not film something for Marvel recently, but Feige says to pay attention to Wright’s tweets in the coming months “and that might change.”
- They’re still figuring out how much period flashbacks to include in Captain America 2.
- The primary story of Captain America 2 will be Steve Rogers figuring out his place in the world. For the time-being, he’ll be staying with S.H.I.E.L.D.
- They should announce by Comic-Con or before what’s coming out in May 2014.
- Zak Penn did not write a Doctor Strange movie.
- Feige says, “depending on what Edgar Wright films for us” circumstances could possibly force them to make three films in one year.
Iron Man 3: It looks like Guy Pearce may make an appearance as Dr. Aldrich Killian, co-creator of the Extremis virus that that features in Iron Man: Extremis, the storyline the film is said to be loosely based on. In the comics, the Extremis virus is given to terrorists by Killian who inject it into fellow terrorist Mallen, creating a superhuman terror that Iron Man has to deal with. I’d say the inclusion of Pearce means Killian is the one injected instead of Mallen, but that’s just my thoughts on it.
Also news that Iron Man 3 will be Co-Produced in China adds a little spark to the fire that Ben Kingsley might be playing the Mandarin, even though producers said it wasn’t the Mandarin.
Thor 2: Chris Hemsworth talks about the new Asgard, new director (Game of Thrones Alan Taylor), and more.
I have read a script and we start shooting in August. I met with Alan Taylor a couple of months ago and Natalie Portman and I and Alan and a couple of Marvel guys and it was hugely exciting. Ken [Branagh] did such a wonderful job and, with scheduling or what have you, he didn’t end up doing this one, but I’m a big fan of the GAME OF THRONES series, which is Alan’s latest work, and I think that is what’s exciting about the second one: making it sort of more tangible and having a more organic feel to Asgard and that world. I think the science fiction element to THOR… the danger is it falls a little bit into the world of it’s “tough to throw a light to.” I think of big waterfalls and mountains and a Viking influence, where the Norse mythology kind of grew from. Having that in Asgard is going to make it all the more special and that’s what Alan wants to bring to it. I think that would be the new aspect to this one.
Sounds good. But anything GoT related has that effect on me. Thor 2 starts filming in three months.

Donald Glover Cast in ’30 Rock’ Live Episode
As you all know we follow the career of Donald Glover quite closely here on Grizzly Bomb. Why? Because he’s awesome. That’s not a good enough reason? Watch any episode of Community or check out Grizzly Spotlight for even more reasons that you can’t deny. I don’t know if I would call my love of Glover a man-crush, or a deep seated respect for humor, comedy, and sick beatz. It may just be a man-crush.
Anyways, we are here for a reason. It was recently announced that Donald Glover has been cast in the next live episode of 30 Rock, playing a young Tracy Jordan (Morgan). Here’s a bit more on the upcoming episode from TVLine:
The gig marks a homecoming for Glover, who previously worked as a writer on 30 Rock. He also has made a handful of blink-and-you-missed-it cameos on the Emmy-winning comedy, including one that actually foreshadowed his live episode stint.

Hero Express: Ben Kingsley in ‘IM3′, ‘Powers’ Pilot Recast, and the Spidey/Avengers Clipshow Finale!
Welcome back to the Hero Express, your one-stop sometimes SPOILER filled shop through the top five stories in comic based Film & TV news!
Ben Kingsley To Play the Villain in Iron Man 3!
Shane Black’s Iron Man 3 is getting into full swing as Kingsley has signed on opposite RDJ. No word yet on who he will be playing, except the word is it won’t be the Mandarin. Splashpage reports, with a few interesting suggestions as to who Kingsley may be portraying. I’ll pick my two favorite of their selections and you can check out the link for the rest:
Rumors of the English Oscar-winner playing Stark’s greatest foe, The Mandarin, were quickly dismissed as the threequel is said to be loosely based on Warren Ellis’ run on “Invincible Iron Man” called “Extremis.” Be that as it may, there are still a ton of interesting Iron Man villains who would be awesome to see up on the big screen, villains whose shoes we could easily see Kingsley filling.
» Ghost
This raving anticapitalist saboteur has gained much notoriety since his indunction into the Thunderbolts during 2009′s “Dark Reign.” Not much is known about this mysterious madman’s past, other than the fact that he used to be an engineer/programmer at an IT company called Omnisapient. In addition to being highly intelligent, Ghost’s battle suit grants him the ability to become intangible and hack/reprogram all matters of electronic systems in his immediate vicinity.» Controller
Basil Sandhurst was an electro-mechanical/chemical research scientist until his obsession with control put him at odds with the rest of his coworkers. Fusing a strength-enhancing exoskeleton to his body and deeming himself “The Controller,” Basil drains the cerebral energy of those around him utilizing slave discs that are directly connected to the micro-circuitry in his helmet. Even without the discs, he can psionically control those who are “weak-willed” and has limited telekinetic abilities.
Both of these characters are totally plausible, especially with news that Iron Man 3 may have a lot to do with nano-technology, but c’mon! No Mandarin? I mean, Iron Man’s most polar opposite evil arch-enemy ever, and there’s no room for him in a TRILOGY of movies?. Kind of a disappointment. Or it could just be a clever way of throwing us all off. Either way, if it is based loosely on Extremis, we could have some very cool armor action ahead of us.
Disney Planning An Animated Marvel Movie?
When Marvel was bought by Disney, a lot of speculation began about whether or not we would see some animated Marvel movies, knowing Disney (and Pixar’s) history. There’s been a lot of back and forth, with some saying it might not be Pixar, but nothing concrete has popped up. Then a couple of comments were put together that seem to tease a bit more on the possibility of a Marvel/Disney animated movie. /Film reports:
…the chatter centers on Animation filmmaker Don Hall’s secret project.
For those of you who don’t follow the Animation industry closely, Hall has been a staple at Walt Disney Animation for the last decade. He was a writer and story artist on Disney’s Tarzan and The Emperor’s New Grove, he worked as a character designer on Chicken Little, a writer on Meet the Robinsons, a writer/story supervisor on The Princess and the Frog, and finally made his directorial debut with the 2011 film Winnie The Pooh (which he also wrote).
In July, Blue Sky Disney was the first to report on his next project:
That project, once announced will generate a lot of buzz in certain geek communities, as it’s going to surprise a lot of people for what it is and what it’s not. But it’s in the very early embryonic stage and it depends on how well the project is received upon the presentation that is being prepared for John [Lasster] and Ed [Catmull].
We didn’t connect the dots at the time, but its now rumored that the project might be connected to the Marvel Universe. Last week Blue Sky teased the secret project yet again:
The projects competing for 2014/2015 are the uber-secret film from Don Hall, which will be a marvelously unexpected project if it ever gets the green light, and Nathan Greno and Byron Howard’s films which are deep in development.
So some very suggestive phrasing that could lead to something huge maybe? I for one think it might be the greatest thing to come from the Disney/Marvel merger. How much cooler would the Fantastic Four movie be with some of The Incredibles style brought to it?

‘Community’ in Danger! Chevy Chase vs Dan Harmon
Okay, now that title might be a bit of a freak out. Community isn’t necessarily in danger of being cancelled, but it certainly is in danger of losing Chevy Chase, who plays Pierce Hawthorne on the show. Some problems have arisen between Chase and Dan Harmon, who created and executive produces Community. Little known fact, he also wrote some of Scud: The Disposable Assassin, which has nothing to do with any of this. Anyways, lets get to what went down. WarmingGlow reports:
Here are the facts:
On the final day of shooting for season three, Chase stormed off the set before filming was completed. Soon after, at the wrap party, Harmon “got up and gave a ‘Fu*k you, Chevy’ speech in front of Chase and his wife and daughter, and encouraged the crew to join him in saying ‘fu*k you’ to the actor,” according to Deadline. Needless to say, Chase was humiliated and pissed (seriously, di*k move, Harmon), and he later called Harmon and left a very NSFW voicemail, which you can listen to here. Brief excerpt:
“I don’t get talked to like that by anybody, certainly not in front of my wife and daughter, you goddamn asshole, alcoholic, fat sh*t. You’re gonna live to be about 57, if you’re lucky, the way you eat. I have nothing to say to you except you can suck my co*k. Is that clear?”
Now I have to say that both parties have responsibility here, so I’m not picking sides. But listening to Chevy’s old-school burn filled voicemail is pretty much the sweetest thing I’ve heard in a while. And the saddest, because I certainly don’t want him to leave Community. Harmon apparently played the voicemail to a group of people, which ignited the fire. More from WarmingGlow :
Maggie Furlong of the Huffington Post interviewed Chase a few days before he walked off the set, and she caught him in a particularly critical and cranky mood:
“I have creative issues with this show. I always have. With my character, with how far you can take [Joel McHale's] character…just to give him a long speech about the world at the end of every episode is so reminiscent. It’s like being relegated to hell and watching “Howdy Doody” for the rest of your life. It’s not particularly necessary, but that’s the way they do these things. I think it belies the very pretenses that his character, Jeff, has, that he’s giving these talks. They’re supposed to, in some way, be a little lesson to people who watch sitcoms…to that degree, I can’t stand sitcoms.”

ITGS: Todd & the Book of Pure Evil’s Chris Leavins
EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW!
Todd & The Book of Pure Evil has been making waves lately. And for good reason. The reviews on the Season 1 DVD have been outrageously positive, and I expect more of the same as the Season 2 DVD is set to drop soon (in Canada, at least). We previously spoke with Todd himself, Alex House, and I think a good time was had by all. Or just me. Whatever. We’re here today with another member of the cast who we all know and love as Atticus Murphy Jr., Crowley High’s Guidance Counselor, which is what he is. Please join me in welcoming Chris Leavins as he steps Inside the Grizzly Studio:
Supascoot: I want to thank you for taking the time today to answer a few questions for us. You have got to be busy being all around awesome and hilarious. Hmmm. That’s not a question… Are you busy being all around awesome and hilarious?
Chris Leavins: Busy? No, being awesome and hilarious comes so effortlessly that it doesn’t feel like busy-work at all.
Tell us a little about yourself. Again, not a question, but I insist!
Well, let’s see, I’m Canadian. It might also surprise people to know I’m white. I’m also male but I’m willing to change that if the right role comes along. Also, my favorite food is nachos.
This seems like an obvious question, but did the move from Canada to LA greatly affect your career? What was your biggest challenge moving into that market?
I not sure how it affected my career, but it definitely affected who I am as a person. Most Canadian actors move to Los Angeles hoping to get jobs on American shows in order to increase their profile and increase their worth to producers. Looking back on it, I guess those were my motives too. But when I actually made the move, I wasn’t very passionate about pursuing acting. Nobody in LA knew me so I had nothing to lose. I started to do stand-up, and I enrolled in classes at UCLA. I wrote and performed everyday. I had acted exclusively in dramas before I made the move, and my time in California taught me I can also do comedy. I literally did not think of myself as a comedic actor until I was 33 years old. Los Angeles opened up a whole new self to me.
Can you tell us a little bit about how you came to play Atticus Murphy Jr. on Todd & TBOPE?
It’s a long convoluted story, but the short version boils down to the fact that I had worked on other projects with some of the producers of TATBOPE. Three days before the pilot was scheduled to shoot, the actor they’d hired dropped out, and I was offered the role. I said no quite a few times because I didn’t think there was enough time for me to prepare, but the network kept insisting, and I’m glad they did. They believed in me, when I didn’t believe in myself.
What were your first impressions of the show when you got the script?
I didn’t get it. It went right over my head. But that’s normal for me. I rarely understand what a project is going to turn out like, and it can be several years before I see it for what it truly is. Quite often I’m just running on instinct. I’ll give you an example. In the very first episode of TATBOPE that we shot (Episode 5 “Monster Fat”) I had a scene where I announce to the kids that I’m a member of their gang. When they left the room I did an aside to the camera and said “I’m a gang member.” That line was not in the script. I improvised it, but it made it into the cut. About a year later, one of the producers mentioned how he thought that line was really funny. I had no idea why he thought that. Then just last week, I was walking home from the gym near my home in Los Angeles, and I saw a cop frisking a real life gang member. It clicked for me. In the scene, I was speaking as Atticus would, and Atticus would have no idea what a gang member was. There is no question, at the time I said that line, I was reaching for a joke, but it took me three years to understand what actually made that joke funny.

Red Band Trailer for Seth MacFarlane’s ‘Ted’!
Chances are if you are a 20-something fun individual you have at one point or another enjoyed a good session of Family Guy. If you know Family Guy then I would wager your favorite characters are either Peter, Brian, or Stewie. So you will probably be pretty excited to hear that Seth MacFarlane’s new film Ted finally has a trailer out, which is Red band. That means NSFW, people. Ted stars Mark Wahlberg and Mila Kunis (shut up, Meg) and of course, Seth MacFarlane as the voice of Ted.
So what the hell is Ted all about? Here’s the official synopsis:
Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane brings his boundary-pushing brand of humor to the big screen for the first time as writer, director and voice star of Ted. In the live action/CG-animated comedy, he tells the story of John Bennett, a grown man who must deal with the cherished teddy bear who came to life as the result of a childhood wish…and has refused to leave his side ever since.
Pretty much every adolescent boys wish turned on its head and infused with ridiculous hilarity. Even if your not a fan of Family Guy I’m sure there will be something in this film to appeal to your sensibilities. Or not. I guess that depends on how cool you think you are. I know you probably just want to see the trailer but I like to make you wait, so check out a couple of pics from the movie first.
Okay, enough is enough. Let’s check out the trailer:

Man of Steel Gets a New Banner!
There has been a bit of silence from the Man of Steel camp lately but we get our firs tlook at some production material for the film. The release of a new banner shows a new or slightly different ‘S’ shield that would look great as a belt buckle. What, you don’t wear superhero belt buckles? Anyways, here’s a look at the banner with an updated cast list from SuperHeroHype:
Henry Cavill plays Superman in director Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel. The film also stars Amy Adams as Daily Planet journalist Lois Lane, and Laurence Fishburne as her editor-in-chief, Perry White. Starring as Clark Kent’s adoptive parents, Martha and Jonathan Kent, are Diane Lane and Kevin Costner.
Squaring off against the superhero are two other surviving Kryptonians, the villainous General Zod, played by Michael Shannon, and Faora, Zod’s evil partner, played by Antje Traue. Also from Superman’s native Krypton are Lara Lor-Van, Superman’s mother, played by Ayelet Zurer, and Superman’s father, Jor-El, portrayed by Russell Crowe. Rounding out the cast are Harry Lennix as U.S. military man General Swanwick, as well as Christopher Meloni as Colonel Hardy.
Possible The Wolverine Teaser Poster!
Here is a look at a very cool poster for James Mangold’s The Wolverine. Unfortunately upon further investigation by ScreenRant it turns out that the poster was only a concept art that probably won’t be used. It’s still a great simplistic look at the direction of the movie. The Wolverine will explore some of Wolvy’s time in Japan, which fans of the original series (by Chris Claremont and Frank Miller) remember with fondness. A lot about the movie is still unknown but it is underway, and will be Hugh Jackman’s 5th outing as Logan (I’m counting the cameo in X-Men: First Class) which is a lot of years spent with the character.
I mean how cool is that?

First Look at The CW’s ‘Arrow’
Are you part of the crowd that just doesn’t know what to do with themselves now that Smallville is over? I’m talking to you Darth Saeris! Anyway, don’t fret, because CW has green-lit a pilot for a series based on Green Arrow cleverly titled Arrow! Only, it’s not the Green Arrow you are used to. Justin Hartley played Oliver Queen for pretty much the last half of Smallville, and I think he did a pretty good job. But that doesn’t matter, because this series has nothing to do with that Oliver Queen.
Now before I get into the show I just want to say; I love Green Arrow. Such a great character that is wholly unique in his perspective on the world. Not afraid to speak his mind and fight for what’s right, this hard nosed left-winger with a desire to fight for the underprivileged of society stood out in comics and has continued to do so for decades.
Not long after the pilot was announced a casting list was released, highlighting a group of characters that offers a little insight as to what kind of show we will be seeing. SuperHeroHype reports:
Oliver Queen
A 27 year old reformed bad boy, who after having spent five years shipwrecked on a tiny, brutally dangerous island in the South China Sea returns to town a different man. Or to be more specific, a tortured, thoughtful master of the bow with a ferocious determination to make a difference.Dinah “Laurel” Lance
28 years old, smart sexy, Laurel is a legal aid attorney determined to use her life as a one-woman war against the 1% following the death of her younger sister Sara. A sister, who as luck would have it, just so happened to have died aboard Oliver’s yacht.Moira Queen
48 years old, a beautiful woman, Oliver’s mother Moira is a very wealthy woman who is not used to being shaken. Having remarried during the five years that former husband Robert and Oliver were both presumed dead, Moira has had free rein over the Queen billions. Not surprisingly, she’s deeply interested in learning whether or not Robert will also return unexpectedly, to ruin her present marriage and go over the books with a fine-tooth comb.Tommy Merlyn
28 years old and devil-smooth, Tommy is a trustafarian like Oliver, a spectacularly rich young man whose life revolves around parties, clubs, liquor and lots of anonymous sex. Unlike Oliver, he can’t seem to understand his former best friend’s sudden change of lifestyle and direction.John Diggle
35 years old, African-American, Diggle is really, really big, a former military man who served with the Army Rangers in Afghanistan, and has been a bodyguard for hire for the last four years. Hired by Moira to be Oliver’s chauffeur and protector, Diggle soon finds he is trapped in a battle of wits, as Oliver repeatedly eludes his protection. But in fact, Diggle’s primary conflict is one of loyalty — he has to show that he’s working for Oliver, not Moira, before Oliver will give him a smidgen of trust.Thea Queen
17 years old (suggest 17-22 years), Oliver’s Lolita-esque sister, Thea was a 12 year old girl when he went on his infamous yachting voyage — but now she’s a celebutante who’s testing the boundaries of acceptable behavior. Thea loved her big brother with all her heart, and is delighted to have him back in her life — but she’s spreading her wings, and is unprepared for Oliver to become the Bad Cop in the family, restricting her access to boys and drugs.
So when I first read this I had the thought that it was going to be 80% Gossip Girl and 20% Green Arrow, another spoiled rich kid series. The inclusion of Merlyn to the cast is a nice touch though. In the comics, Merlyn is an expert assassin and the only person who can come close to Ollie with a bow. My worry about the direction of the show didn’t decrease when they announced who would be playing Oliver Queen and Dinah Lance (Black Canary). GammaSquad reports:
Comic Rack – Who Are the Spider-Men,The New 52′s Second Wave, & Space Punisher!!!
Welcome to Comic Rack! My pick of the top five comic news stories in no particular order.
The Return of Shazam!
Announced recently along with the rest of DC’s Second Wave of the New 52, a mainstay hero finally makes his appearance, with a little tweak. Shazam (formerly Captain Marvel) will be arriving in a backup feature in Justice League #7, with a modified costume and a “new” name. While the character was always known as Captain Marvel, due to legal issues with Marvel Comics DC was restricted from licensing a comic using the name and published his adventures as Shazam or some variation. Now the character will finally be going by Shazam, which I thinks make the most sense. Geoff Johns explains:
“Well, there are a lot of reasons for the change. One is that everybody thinks he’s called Shazam already, outside of comics. It’s also, for all sorts of reasons, calling him Shazam just made sense for us. And, you know, every comic book he’s in right now has Shazam on the cover. So I think just by embracing that and calling him Shazam.”
Here’s a look at his new hooded threads, and knowing the look of the New 52 he probably has a collar underneath it as well:
The Return of Captain Marvel!
Now we aren’t talking about Shazam anymore. Marvel also had a number of Captain Marvel’s the first being the Kree Captain Mar-Vell. He died famously of cancer back in the 80′s, and despite a few characters going by that name he was always the honred original. Well, it seems now that DC has relinquished all use of the name the time has come for Captain marvel to return. But it may not be who you would expect. At WonderCon, Marvel announced that Carol Danvers (formerly Ms. Marvel) will be taking on the role of Captain Marvel in a new ongoing series by Kelly Sue DeConnick with art by Dexter Soy.
DeConnick spoke about her take on the character:
My pitch was called ‘Pilot’ and the take can pretty much be summed up with ‘Carol Danvers as Chuck Yeager. Carol’s the virtual definition of a Type A personality. She’s a competitor and a control freak. At the start of our series, we see Carol pre-Captain Marvel, pre-NASA even, back when she was a fiercely competitive pilot. We’ll see her meeting one of her aviation heroes and we’ll see her youthful bravado, her swagger. Then over the course of the first arc we’re going to watch her find her way back to that hungry place. She’ll have to figure out how to be both Captain Marvel and Chuck Yeager—to marry the responsibility of that legacy with the sheer joy being nearly invulnerable and flying really [expletive] fast.
My playlist for this series is heavy on AC/DC, Heart and Pat Benatar.
You can check here for an interesting interview with the designer of Carol’s new costume, which I think is great.
Spider-Men Coming In June!
Not much is known about the upcoming series by Brian Michael Bendis and Sara Pichelli. This is the same team that launched Miles Morales, the new Ultimate Spider-Man, which leads me to believe that it will include Miles Morales. But what could it be about? Here is the first teaser:
Grizzly Girl of the Week: Hayden Panettiere
Hayden Panettiere
Hayden fell on all of our radars as the cute, loveable, superpowered cheerleader Claire Bennet on Heroes. As promo’s asked us to “Save the cheerleader, Save the world” we knew she was meant to be a star. Before this she started her career like many others by working on daytime soap opera’s. She also has (had?) a music career and will forever hold a place in my heart. Plus we share the same birthday, it’s destiny.

‘Dark Shadows’ Trailer Arrives!
The new trailer for Tim Burton’s Dark Shadows has finally arrived online. Starring Johnny Depp as Barnabas Collins, a vampire who wakes up in a world that’s not his own to find a family he doesn’t understand. I think I’ll let the official synopsis explain the rest:
In the year 1752, Joshua and Naomi Collins, with young son Barnabas, set sail from Liverpool, England to start a new life in America. But even an ocean was not enough to escape the mysterious curse that has plagued their family. Two decades pass and Barnabas (Johnny Depp) has the world at his feet—or at least the town of Collinsport, Maine. The master of Collinwood Manor, Barnabas is rich, powerful and an inveterate playboy…until he makes the grave mistake of breaking the heart of Angelique Bouchard (Eva Green). A witch, in every sense of the word, Angelique dooms him to a fate worse than death: turning him into a vampire, and then burying him alive.
Two centuries later, Barnabas is inadvertently freed from his tomb and emerges into the very changed world of 1972. He returns to Collinwood Manor to find that his once-grand estate has fallen into ruin. The dysfunctional remnants of the Collins family have fared little better, each harboring their own dark secrets. Matriarch Elizabeth Collins Stoddard (Michelle Pfeiffer) has called upon live-in psychiatrist, Dr. Julia Hoffman (Helena Bonham Carter), to help with her family troubles.
Also residing in the manor is Elizabeth’s ne’er-do-well brother, Roger Collins, (Jonny Lee Miller); her rebellious teenage daughter Carolyn Stoddard (Chloe Moretz); and Roger’s precocious 10-year-old son, David Collins (Gulliver McGrath). The mystery extends beyond the family, to caretaker Willie Loomis, played by Jackie Earle Haley, and David’s new nanny, Victoria Winters, played by Bella Heathcote.
New Japanese Avengers Trailer Features Some Amazing New Footage! Plus New Character Posters!
Japanese trailers are generally awesome. Always complete with a kick ass voice over and epic sub titles, so why should the Japanese trailer for The Avengers be any different? The trailer was recently released, along with some new character posters. What should you expect from this trailer as opposed to the one we showed you not too long ago? How about your first real good look at the S.H.I.E.L.D. Helicarrier? Or the first spoken lines from Hawkeye and Maria Hill? And an even better look at the mysterious alien race Loki enlists in his quest? How about a cameo from an Iron Man alumni? Yep, that’s all in there.
But I like to make you wait, so here are the brand new character posters first, from ScreenRant. While you look at the posters you can read an interview with Joss Whedon from Collider as he goes into detail about the runtime of the movie, the alien race NOT being the Skrull or Kree, and whether or not us nerdboys will get some Easter Egg gold:
“My first cut was three hours long and it’s now down to 2 hours and 15 minutes, and I’m extremely proud of that. I had always intended to go over two, under two and a half. There was no way a movie with this many great actors and this much epic scope was gonna clock in under two and not feel a little anemic, somebody wasn’t gonna get their moment if that happened. But at the same time, I get very angry that romantic comedies run over two hours long, it’s like ‘Guys, that’s not okay.’ More isn’t more. I don’t want anything in the movie that shouldn’t be.”
So what exactly did he cut to reduce the run time?
“There’s a lot of me that got cut out, but I think part of the process in a situation like this is you make the movie, you make your movie, then you remove yourself out of the equation. At some point you stop looking beyond The Avengers movie at your own stuff, you don’t look at that horizon you look at this movie and you go, ‘You know what, The Avengers are more important than I am so these things that I’m obsessed with aren’t necessarily moving the story forward, and therefore they are baggage.’ You can do that in a TV show, you can bring your baggage and sort of lay it out because you have a season to do it, but in a movie you actually have to remove yourself from the equation a bit and when I was finally able to do that, I saw a much clearer road to how to get the best experience for the audience.”

Minka Kelly
I fell in love with the beautiful Minka Kelly at the same time I fell in love with Friday Night Lights. And I knew from the first episode that this was a girl with a big future ahead of her. One Week Until Community! New Trailer, New Webisodes, and Hope for a 4th season?
One week. One week till the horror we’ve had to endure from NBC ends. One week until our faith in television is restored. One week until Community! And I couldn’t be happier. So to celebrate the return to the airwaves, check out this trailer for Community‘s return to Thursdays! Pop Pop!
Awesome. The Greendale 7 Expelled? The return of the ‘Worst Reality’ Abed? Annie’s Boobs? So much to look forward too. But what the hell are we supposed to do while we wait until Thursday? Well, how about some animated webisodes? The first in a 3 part series should hold us over until then, which sounds good to me!
