SDCC 2013: Kick-Ass 2 Panel Recap & New Extended Redband Trailer!

There have been a number of great panels over the last few days down in San Diego, and it looks like the Kick-Ass 2 panel was no different, though it was said to be a little more R-rated than others. The panel featured director Jeff Wadlow, creators Mark Millar and John Romita Jr., Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Lindy Booth, Donald Faison, John Leguizamo, with a special video appearance from Chloe Moretz. The cast answered questions and joked with the audience while describing the filming of the sequel.

Oh, and they released a new extended Redband trailer that is definitely NSFW:

Yep. That looks fantastic, and looks to build on everything that was great about the first film.

As for the actual panel, Collider has a great recap that we will pick some cool moments from, but check out the link for more from the cast.

  • When Taylor-Johnson came out he was visibly flustered by the enormous crowd. I believe this is his first appearance at Comic-Con.
  • Johnson said when he first read Wadlow’s script it was a page-turner, full of laughter and emotion, and “it brought these characters to a whole new level.” He said it’s fully packed, as the film doesn’t leave any room for the characters to do more. Their arcs are full of great stuff.
  • Mintz-Plasse loved the script as well, but he was scared to do something this intense and nerve-wracking with The Motherfucker.
  • He described his costume as “a gimp outfit.”
  • With regards to the film’s dark tone, Mintz-Plasse said they took out him killing a dog and raping someone, but almost everything else from the comic is still in the movie.
  • Moretz said Mindy’s high school portion of the story was a big, interesting arc that Wadlow decided to put in the movie. Moretz’s character gives up being Hit Girl to lead a normal life, but realizes that she has to enact justice when she sees some troublesome things in high school. The arc touches on what teenagers are going through in real life. The character soon understands that Mindy and Hit-Girl are one and the same.

Lots more from the cast at the link, so be sure to check it out! We would write more about the Kick-Ass 2 panel, but instead we are going to check out that trailer again. Check out more SDCC coverage here!

Kick-Ass 2: New Trailers and Movie Posters Galore!

In 2010, the Mark Millar and John Romita Jr. comic book story of a high school guy who decides one day to become a superhero was brought to the big screen in Kick-Ass. Now the gang is back and ready to fight crime and well, kick ass yet again!

Chloe Moretz is reprising her role as Hit-Girl, the bad-ass little high school girl who fights crime in costume beside Kick-Ass (Aaron Taylor-Johnson) himself. This time around, a group of regular citizens have been inspired to follow her lead, and don costumes, and fight crime through the city as well. Aaron and Chloe will star alongside such names as Jim Carrey, John Leguizamo, Donald Faison, Clark Duke, Lyndsy Fonseca, and of course Christopher Mintz-Plasse, formerly Red Mist, as The Mother F***er; the villain who the citizens must band together to defeat. [Ed. Note – Let me just say, I’m very pleased to find out that  Lyndsy Fonseca is returning. She is awesome on Nikita, plus – well you know. The acting and all that…

Chris Hemsworth & Jaimie Alexander on set of Thor 2: The Dark World!

When I first heard that Alan Taylor (Game Of Thrones, Rome) was going to direct Thor: The Dark World I like many others were hoping that he would add some of the realism of his previous work to the project. The images below do not disappoint, and coincides with Alan Taylor’s previous thoughts on a “more tangible” and “more organic feel” for Asgard. These set pics certainly show a part of the grand scale he is going for.

There are a lot more images in the slideshow at the bottom of the page.. We also have the official plot description for Thor: The Dark World:

Exploring Thor’s relationship with the Asgardian all-father Odin, as well earthbound companion Jane Foster, “Thor: The Dark World” follows the God of Thunder to The Nine Realms beyond Asgard and earth. And as his evil half-brother, Loki, returns for Asgardian justice, a new threat rises. Also rejoining Thor are his fellow Asgardians, Lady Sif, gatekeeper Heimdall and Warriors Three, as they encounter mythical Norse creatures among evildoers.

“Thor: The Dark World” stars Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, Anthony Hopkins, Tom Hiddleston, Idris Elba, Christopher Eccleston, Jaimie Alexander, Zachary Levi, Tadanobu Asano, Stellan Skarsgard, Ray Stevenson, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Rene Russo, with Alice Krige & Kat Dennings. And Alan Taylor (“Game of Thrones”) takes over directorial duties from Kenneth Branagh, who helmed the first “Thor” film. From a screenplay by Don Payne and Robert Rodat, “Thor: The Dark World” is set for release on November 8, 2013.

Drew Goddard Wants a Marvel Movie… But Who Doesn’t?

The Cabin in the Woods director has recently shown interest in directing a Marvel film if the opportunity arises. This isn’t necessarily the most shocking news because I and every other nerd around would kill for that opportunity. But considering some of his powerful friends (Damon Lindelof, J.J. Abrams, Spielberg, Joss Whedon) and the success of this years The Cabin in the Woods, his interest in a Marvel film could very easily turn into something serious.

These are his words at an interview with ShockTillYouDrop:

“What Marvel character would I not love to get on? That’s an easier question to answer. I would love any of it and I love Marvel, Joss and what they’re doing. It’s all about finding the right fit. Directing…in order to do your job right, you have to find ways to make it personal, and if we can find the right fit, then I would love to do it.”

Thanos Confirmed For Guardians of the Galaxy and The Avengers 2

Filming on Iron Man 3 is underway and coming out next year, production on Thor: The Dark World has started filming in England as we just told you, and Captain America: The Winter Soldier is set to start production next March.  That will mean Guardians of the Galaxy and The Avengers 2 will be the final two films of the Phase Two line-up. Edgar Wright’s Ant-Man should be able to come to production next year …hopefully.

This ugly mug above from what we can gather will be in both The Avengers 2 and Guardians of the Galaxy. Whether that is a small cameo or the main villain is yet to be revealed. My theory at this point is that Thanos will be a small cameo in GotG where we get a first taste of Marvel’s space opera which has been talked about in the Marvel Cinematic Universe before, but I think the main villain will be someone else. The Avengers 2 will probably have the big scary Thanos as a threat to be dealt with by Earths Mightiest Heroes. Just my theory as to what direction they will be taking the Phase Two and where Thanos will play into that.

Feige has all but said Thanos is in the movie.

Now we learn that not only will the Mad Titan Thanos be featured in the Guardians of the Galaxy movie — but The Avengers 2 as well.

We previously reported that Thanos creator Jim Starlin was in talks with Marvel about “something,” with it theorized that it was over the rights to Thanos.

Now, a Cosmic Book News regular, Armand Rock, has confirmed through Jim Starlin that Thanos will be in the Guardians of the Galaxy movie and The Avengers 2.

Max Landis Brings Vigilant to Fox

You know Max Landis, the Chronicle writer and son of the great John Landis (The guy who has done pretty much everything). It looks like he will be getting a new TV Show on Fox. Vigilant will also be produced by Howard Gordon (24, Homeland), and is a police drama featuring a crime fighting vigilante. On Monday, it was revealed that Fox has officially picked up the show.

The basic premise of Vigilant is this: a 20-year old, female “social outcast” becomes a vigilante in order to take down criminals and corrupt police officers. Before bringing up the failure that was The Cape, know that Landis doesn’t think of Vigilant as a superhero show. “Vigilant comes at the whole equation of what a “vigilante” in a very different way, the writer recently tweeted. “It has more in common with The Wire than Smallville.” Several tweets like the one quoted were posted by Landis in the wake of the Fox announcement hoping to convince everyone that his show won’t simply be a superhero tale.

I really liked Chronicle and the way Landis represented the human side of the character. I hope he brings this skill of character development to the small screen with him. The show has great potential but also comes with some competition this year from a couple of potential superhero based shows like Joss Whedon’s S.H.I.E.L.D. and FX’s long in production Powers. Then there is the fact that it is being produced by Fox, which I don’t have a problem with but I do worry that they may just cancel if it doesn’t instantly become a hit.

Well, we have yet another anticipated super hero film with a butt load of Kick-Ass 2 set photos (Butt, ass…Okay, not my best work). But still we get to see the main cast and finally get to see what all the new additions look like. Noticeably we have Doctor Gravity, Mother Russia and Colonel Stars.

Hero Express: Jim Carrey Kicks Ass, Iron Man 3 Gets ‘Up, Up and Atom’, & TMNT Gets a Box Set!

Welcome back to the Hero Express, your one-stop sometimes SPOILER filled shop through the top five stories in comic based Film & TV news!

Jim Carrey Joins Kick-Ass 2!

Rumored a short time ago, it has been officially announced that Jim Carrey has joined the cast of director Jeff Wadlow’s Kick-Ass 2. He will be playing Colonel Stars, member of the Millarverse’s Justice Forever, a crime fighting group that fits in perfectly to the world of Kick-Ass. Splashpage reports:

jim-carrey-kick-assMark Millar, writer and co-creator of the “Kick-Ass” comic books, hopped on his official website to confirm the news and express his excitement over Carrey’s casting, a deal that was “a little over two years” in the making.

“Matthew Vaughn, Jeff Wadlow and I did a conference call with Jim a couple of weeks back and we’ve been itching to talk about this ever since because the energy Jim’s going to bring to Colonel Stars has me buzzing as much as Nic Cage with Big Daddy,” Millar wrote.

He continued, “I’ve been a fan since I first saw him. I remember reading an interview with Spielberg, a great one back in Empire for a JAws anniversary, where he was saying that Jim would be his choice for Chief Brodie were he shooting Jaws now. He said he could see the brilliant dramatic range Jim had as well as the comedy people knew him for at that time. For all these reasons, combined with the conversation we had with him on the phone, I’m so genuinely excited about this. I can’t wait to see what he does once the cameras are on.”

This comes alongside several casting announcements, which Collider sums up:

Lindy Booth (Dawn of the Dead) is in talks to play Night Bitch, a hero who joins Justice Forever after being inspired by Kick-Ass and hopes to avenge the murder of her sister. Johnson returns as Kick-Ass, Moretz will reprise her role as Hit-Girl and Mintz-Plasse antagonizes as The Red Mist once again.   Donald Faison (Scrubs) has joined as Doctor Gravity, another hero inspired by Kick-Ass who accompanies him on his patrols.  John Leguizamo (Moulin Rouge) has also joined the picture as the enigmatic “Javier.  Robert Emms (War Horse) has also been rumored to star as Insect Man, another member of Justice Forever who is a cop in his daily life. Nicolas Cage and Yancy Butler also return to the sequel as Big Daddy and Angie D’Amico, respectively.

New The Dark Knight Returns: Part 1 Clip!

I can’t really get across how excited I am for the release of this. And for a number of reasons, as not only is DC kicking ass and taking names when it comes to animated features, but it looks to be a really great adaptation of the source material. ‘The Dark Knight Returns’ plays a pivotal role in the development of Batman from the 80’s to now, and is an important part of comic book history. We’ve seen a trailer recently, and now a short clip has been released that does nothing to lower my excitement.

I know, big tease. Here’s a sneak peek that has been posted before but if you’re left feeling underwhelmed it should bring you back to my level.

Iron Man 3 Adds Radioactive Man To The Cast!

As if the list of villains for Shane Black’s Iron Man 3 wasn’t already long enough (check some of them here and here) another name has been added to the fold and even cast already. Wang Xuqei has been cast as Dr. Chen Lu, who becomes the Radioactive man, China’s answer to the atomic superhuman. Gamma Squad reports:

Courtesy of Gamma Squad

Wang will be taking the tole of Chen Lu, a Chinese nuclear scientist perhaps best known in Marvel’s comic continuity as a member of the Masters of Evil and the Thunderbolts. It’s unclear whether or not the movie Lu will become the irradiated mutant super villain of the comics in Iron Man 3, especially considering that he actually originally appeared as a Thor villain. Could his first movie appearance be part of a set-up for a later appearance in Thor: The Dark World, due out six months after the third Iron Man movie?

I’m not quite sure how I feel about all of these announcements, but I’m not exactly discouraged. We’ll have to wait and see what develops.

The Wolverine Set Photos Show Logan & Mariko!

Another movie I’m really hoping will be good is The Wolverine, Hugh Jackman’s 6th time in the title role (I’m counting the cameo in X-Men: First Class). It is based off of one of my favorite comic mini-series ever, written by Chris Claremont with art by Frank Miller. A series that shaped Wolverine into the nerd bait he will eventually become. Filming is underway in Japan, and a series of set photos reveal Logan, Mariko (Tao Okamoto), and a quick glimpse at Yukio (Rila Fukushima) as well. Mariko is the half sister of the movie’s villain (Silver Samurai) as well as Logan’s love interest. Yukio is a ninja/thief who plays a large role in Logan’s time in Japan. It looks like they are at a funeral, which may or may not be spoiler-ish. Collider has the photos:

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles DVD Boxset Release!

The TV show anyone within my generation is aware of, and most likely loves, will be heading onto DVD in probably the coolest looking box set EVER. Yea. EVER. I used all capitals. That means it’s pretty freaking amazing. The 23 disc, 193 episode set will come housed in… I can’t spoil it. Check it out below, courtesy of SuperHeroHype.

Experience the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle saga in this totally tubular 23-disc set of the original animated series, featuring all 10 seasons in one complete cowabunga collection! From their origins on the comic book page to the depths of Dimension X and beyond, the pizza-loving, shell-busting Leonardo™, Donatello™, Raphael™ and Michelangelo™, with the guidance of their Sensei, have been delighting fans for decades with their turtle power. Whether it’s facing fierce enemies Krang™, Shredder™ and Lord Dregg™, saving humanity from near extinction, or battling against life-altering mutations, the half-shell heroes are always ready for heart-stopping, time-bending, straight outta the sewer action!

Awesome. The set comes out on November 13th, and it couldn’t come soon enough. Nothing would look better on my movie shelf. And If some child is ever unfortunate enough to have me as their gene donor, at least I will have something great for them to watch while I let them eat cat food wearing lit fireworks. That’s what kids do, right? Turtle Power!

Hero Express: Iron Man 3 Casting, Thor 2 Finds a Villain, & The Dark Knight Returns First Images!

Welcome back to the Hero Express, your one-stop sometimes SPOILER filled shop through the top five stories in comic based Film & TV news!

Iron Man 3 Casting Palooza!

One of the problems of most comic book movie sequels, at least the one talked about by rabid comic fans the most, is the inclusion of too many villains. Spider-Man 3 suffered from this, as did Schumacher’s Batman films to a certain degree. Even Iron Man 2 was claimed to crowd the movie with too many villains like  Justin Hammer, plus the weird combo of Whiplash and Crimson Dynamo. So you’d think they would steer clear of that and bring us a central villain for Iron Man 3. Apparently, that is not the case.

“You’re shitting me…”

It’s been rumored that a couple of villain roles may have been announced alongside Ben Kingsley’s “Not the Mandarin’ who is clearly going to be the Mandarin. It was even announced along with the casting negotiations of Andy Lau‘s character who:

“represents China’s technology sector – and will use China’s armored heroes to HELP Iron Man defeat “The Mandarin” who is seen as a terrorist against both the US and China.”

So let’s talk villains. Apparently James Badge Dale is in talks to play Lt. Col. Eric Savin AKA Coldblood, while Ashley Hamilton is up for the role of Jack Taggert AKA Firepower. No word yet on how these villains would factor into the story of Extremis, which the film is based upon.

A character who does fit in nicely with Extremis might be played by Rebecca Hall, who I love. Here is the description of the character:

The role is said to be that of a scientist that is the intellectual equal of Robert Downey Jr.’s Tony Stark. Although it’s not confirmed, it’s possible that the part is Dr. Maya Hansen, a character responsible for the “Extremis” nanotechnology that is said to be a key part of the sequel’s focus.

And finally, some of the best casting is the rumored role for William Sadler, who is awesome. My best guess is he would play Sal Kennedy, a mentor figure to both Tony Stark and Maya Hansen in the Extremis series, although he was allegedly doing some costuming with Guy Pearce. Oh, and finally finally Jon Favreau will be returning as Harold ‘Happy’ Hogan, the role he placed himself in for the first 2 movies. This is fine with me.

Kick-Ass 2 Shaping Up!

Not a ton of news has been released except for the small matter of direction. Jeff Wadlow (Never Back Down, Cry_Wolf) will be directing from a script he wrote, and apparently has the full support of Mark Millar and Matthew Vaughn. Vaughn directed the first but due to his commitment to the X-Men: First Class sequel opted out of KA2. Wadlow explained a little about his take on the film, and adapting the comic:

“It’s been an interesting process because for those of you who know the property really well, the movie takes some significant liberties with the first comic book,” he said. “Then Mark did the sequel to the comic book which is ‘Kick-Ass 2.’ So I had sort of this movie and the comic book and I had to find the intersection. An adaptation was quite a challenge, but one that I really enjoyed and loved.”

“I think the most important thing that’s gonna change from the ‘Kick-Ass 2’ comic to ‘Kick-Ass 2’ the movie was just really finding an emotional story to tell. Because what I certainly loved about the first film, and what I think elevated it above most comic book adaptations, is the heart and the emotion in the film. It was sort of my challenge as the filmmaker and storyteller to find something as emotional in the second film and I think we have some stuff that people are gonna really respond to.”

And on the involvement of Chloe Moretz, who is kind of blowing up Hollywood right now:

“Well, nothing is official yet. But I had breakfast with Chloe two weeks ago and she’s read the script and she’s very excited about what we’re doing with Hit-Girl. If you’ve read the comic, you know, she gives up being Hit-Girl, which was a brilliant idea I thought on Mark’s part,” Wadlow said. “It’s something I explore quite deeply in the movie because what happens in the comic is she sort of steps away from the story in many ways and she’s sort of sidelined while [Kick-Ass] is working with Justice Forever and [Red Mist] is becoming the motherf—er.”

“But I was quite interested in what happens to her when she’s not being Hit-Girl. Her story is a major, major part of the film and she’s excited about the ideas and we’re in talks.”

Thor 2 Casts Unknown Villian!

It looks like Thor 2 might be welcoming Mads Mikkelsen to the sequel. I think he would make a mean villain alongside Tom Hiddleston’s Loki. Hiddleston has been pretty busy lately, but you can’t have a Thor movie without him. Come on. No word as to who he could be playing, but I think he would make a pretty great Malekith the Dark Elf.

Per Variety, Casino Royale baddie Mikkelsen is in talks to star as the main villain in Thor 2.  Though it’s unknown what role Mikkelsen will specifically play, Hiddelston’s Loki character is said to still have a big part in the film as an antagonist.  Mikkelsen is a Danish actor who is probably best known as the villain in Casino Royale, but also had a strong supporting role in 2010’s Clash of the Titans and starred in Nicholas Winding Refn’s Valhalla Rising.

And a little from Kevin Feige on the direction of the movie:

“[The heart of the movie is] Thor and Jane, to continue that dynamic.  Really they were only together for three days, and do they love each other? Do they like each other? Do they know each other?  We’re acknowledging that that love story in the first movie was sort of a quick crush, essentially, over the course of three quick days in the middle of the desert.  And [the heart of the movie is also] the relationship between Thor and Odin, which does change drastically as it did over the course of the first movie, and picks up and continues from there.”

This has nothing to do with the movie. I just felt like sharing.

Tons of Dark Knight Rises Images! Tons!

There are a lot of TDKR images. Pretty sure I already made my point about that.

From GeekSoulBrother:

A secret poster from Batman-News:

July is going to be one hell of a month.

Images from The Dark Knight Returns Animated Movies!

This is a moment that fans have been waiting for a few decades to experience. One of the most influential and greatest stories in Batman legend (brought to us by Frank Miller) is the next to join the already awesome DC Animated Features. And in what I believe to be the best decision ever, it will be released in 2 parts. That means we are getting the full story here people. Although I am curious as to whether or not they will be using anything from the less influential The Dark Knight Strikes Back. GeeksofDoom reports:

The Dark Knight Returns, the groundbreaking 1986 miniseries that took Batman in a bold and startling new direction and became one of the hallmarks of modern comic book storytelling, will provide the basis for the next animated Batman movie. The original series took place in the future where an aging Bruce Wayne, now 55 years old, emerges from retirement as Batman to rescue Gotham from the clutches of a rampaging street gang called the Mutants. Soon not only does he find himself battling crazed punks, but also the supposedly rehabilitated Harvey Dent, his oldest archenemy the Joker, and even his longtime ally Superman, now an agent for the U.S. government.

I’m crazy excited for this. Let’s look at some pictures as well as some of the voice cast announced:

Recently the studio made public the two-part movie’s voice cast, and while there are some interesting and familiar names among the cast list its the actor chosen to voice Gotham City’s masked vigilante that is sure to inspire the greatest confidence in this project from fans.

Peter Weller, best known for playing the cyborg policeman RoboCop in three movies (the later two were written by Frank Miller oddly enough, although his scripts were altered heavily during production) as well as The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai and the upcoming Star Trek 2, will be providing the raspy vocals for Bruce Wayne and his iconic alter ego.

Ariel Winter of the hit ABC comedy series Modern Family has been cast as the voice of Robin, who in this story is a 13-year-old girl named Carrie Kelley.

Wade Williams (Prison Break) is voicing Harvey Dent/Two-Face while comic actor Michael McKean (This is Spinal Tap) also joins the cast as Dr. Wolper, the psychiatrist who releases the Joker from Arkham Asylum to reign unholy havoc on a Gotham already on the verge of an apocalyptic collapse.

David Selby of the original Dark Shadows soap opera as well as well as David Fincher’s The Social Network has also signed on for an as yet-unspecified part, though it’s possible he could be playing Commissioner Gordon.

The part of the Joker has not yet been cast and it’s still unclear if the movies will feature appearances from Superman, Selina Kyle, and Oliver Queen, a.k.a. Green Arrow, all of whom play integral roles in the Dark Knight Returns miniseries.

Awesome. Can’t wait. Robocop as Batman? Somewhere inside me Nerd trolls are fighting over how cool this is.

Hero Express – ‘The Avengers’ Teaser Trailer, Kick-Ass 2, and Another Actor Wants ‘Luke Cage’

Welcome to Hero Express, your one-stop shop through the news filled world of superhero’s in Film, TV, Video Games and whatever else floats your boat.

This is the Hero Express for July 18, 2011:

Clark Gregg Talks The Avengers, and an Agent Coulson Spin-off? –(Collider)

Clark Gregg is basically the comedic connective tissue behind Marvel’s Cinematic Universe as Agent Coulson, having appeared as the main S.H.I.E.L.D. presence in most of the Marvel movies. Here he talks a little about shooting The Avengers, a bit about some of the other projects Gregg has been working, plus his thoughts on an Agent Coulson movie.

“So, do I get my own movie now?”

Latest Poster For Captain America: The First Avenger – (GeekTyrant)

The latest and most likely last poster for Captain America: The First Avenger was released, and while it looks a little better than the last one, it’s still not that great. You can decide for yourself.

Kind of epic, I suppose.

Attack the Block Director discusses Ant-Man (iamROGUE)

Ant-Man has long been rumored in development by Edgar Wright, but we haven’t heard about too much movement lately. Joe Cornish, director of the upcoming Attack the Block,  talks a little about the script he is writing with Wright.

“Yeah, Ant-Man is still going,” confirmed Cornish. “Edgar and I were writing on it only the day before yesterday,” he admitted. I followed up by asking if they were doing a lot of rewriting on the script.

“Yeah, we’re just drafting and drafting,” he said. Finally, with Wright’s busy schedule, I wanted to find out if Cornish thought that Edgar would still end up directing the movie.

“Yes,” Cornish answered. “I’m just a humble writer on that one,” he said in closing.

Rampage Jackson In Talks for Luke Cage – (Fandango)

Throwing his hat into the ring along with Tyrese Gibson and Isaiah Mustafa is UFC fighter turned actor Quinton ‘Rampage’ Jackson. You might remember him from The A-Team, filling the role made famous by Mr. T. I personally didn’t care for the movie but Rampage wasn’t the worst part of it.

Out of all the actors mentioned he definitely has the build and the attitude for the role, I just don’t know if he has the acting talent. But really, do Gibson and Mustafa? Here’s what Baracus Rampage had to say about it.

“I don’t think there’s anyone out there who would be a more believable Luke Cage than me.”

Footage from The Dark Knight Rises Set(GeekTyrant)

Here’s a quick look at a scene featuring Christian Bale and Anne Hathaway. Not much is revealed, but it’s a piece of footage, so I’m gonna show it to you.

First Look at TDKR Batmobile – (CinemaBlend)

I’m actually a little disappointed, as I was hoping we would to get to see an all new and improved Batmobile. But it looks like we get the Tumbler version, which is still cool, I guess.

Yep, still cool

New Cowboys & Aliens Promo Image – (ComicBookMovie)

A new image has arrived for Jon Favreau‘s upcoming alien western Cowboys & Aliens starring Daniel Craig and Harrison Ford, among a great list of others. I have to say, this is probably one of the coolest shots I’ve seen yet. As long as we’re not counting any picture of Olivia Wilde, that is.

McLovin Talks Kick-Ass 2 (Collider)

I suppose we can stop calling him McLovin and start calling him Christopher Mintz-Plasse, as he is consistently getting good roles and making his name in the business. He is doing press for the upcoming The To-Do List and spoke a little about Kick-Ass 2.

Question:  Have you been reading the sequel as Mark’s been publishing it?

Christopher Mintz-Plasse:  Yeah. I haven’t seen the new one.

Do you look at it and go, “Oh, god, please…”

Mintz-Plasse:  Please make this movie!

Cause what a role they’ve given me.

Mintz-Plasse:  Yeah! I talked to Matthew and he’s like, “I don’t know if I would ever direct it, but I would definitely be on board to produce it. And I’ve thought, Eli Roth would be such a cool director for this. Or someone who hasn’t done a comic book movie but gets horror ‘cause it’s very violent. Very bloody. But Chloe’s working up a storm, man. She’s non-stop. So, who knows if we’ll ever do it? I know I would love to, and I think Aaron would love to. I’m sure Chloe would, but we’re all just kind of busy right now.

So that was a very non-committal answer, and doesn’t give us any information about when or if this movie will happen.

True Blood‘s Ryan Kwanten as Griff the Invisible – (GeekTyrant)

While this movie is an original story and not based off any comic I felt it was still important to mention it here. Take a look at Ryan Kwanten (True Blood’s Jason Stackhouse) as the hero in Griff the Invisible:

Here’s the trailer, which has the unfortunate tagline of “Love is the Greatest Superpower of All”:

WB planning on a Green Lantern sequel – (Splashpage)

Despite a recent 66% drop at the box office, it looks like Warner Brothers is moving forward with the Green Lantern franchise. And despite what I thought of the first movie, this is a good idea. The best story possible was hinted at the end of GL, and Mark Strong deserves his chance to really bring us Sinestro.

Yea, didn’t really see any of these guys in the movie for more than a few seconds…

Retro Girl, the murder that sets our already cast Detectives onto their first mission as partners has been cast.

In an interview Friday on Sirius Satellite Radio’s Geektime, Bendis revealed that model and T-Mobile spokeswoman Carly Foulkes will play the character, whose homicide marks the first case for new partners Christian Walker and Deena Pilgrim. Foulkes joins Jason Patric as Walker, Lucy Punch as Deena Pilgrim, Charles S. Dutton as Captain Cross andBailee Madison as Calista.

Christopher Meloni Cast in Man of Steel – (Splashpage)

Meloni finally leaves the set of Law & Order: SVU to join up with Zack Snyder‘s take on Superman, but it isn’t the role most thought when the news hit. Immediately people were figuring Meloni to take on the role of Lex Luthor, Supes arch nemesis, but that isn’t true. Looks like he will be playing a General. A General in a major role of some kind. Hopefully it will be General Randy Freakshow:

Hawkeye Stuntman Scalps Himself On Set of The Avengers – (TMZ)

At least the scene it happens in sounds kind of cool, but why was Hawkeye the one being hit with an arrow? Here’s the report:

Stuntman Jeremy Fitzgerald tells TMZ, his job was simple — get hit with an arrow and fall 30 feet off a building … but he caught his foot on the way down, and slammed his head into the brick … leaving behind a freshly peeled slab of scalp.

But it could have been a LOT worse — according to Jeremy, he narrowly missed a razor sharp rain gutter during the accident.

And if all that wasn’t badass enough — Jeremy tells us, he went right back to work after the fall … no hospital, no stitches … just a bandage.

Matthew Vaughn Directing Millar’s War Heroes? – (GeekTyrant)

It seems like everything Mark Millar creates sees it’s way onto the big screen as he already has Kick-Ass and Kick-Ass 2 under his wing, both helmed by Matthew Vaughn (X-Men: First Class) as well as a few other secret projects underway. So the latest rumor from Millar is that Vaughn will be directing an adaptation of War Heroes, which tells the story of US Soldiers given pills which imbue them with super powers.

Any fan of Millar’s would be excited to see this made, I just hope Hollywood doesn’t flood the theater with Millar projects, at least not yet.

Greatest Captain America Toy Ever! – (GeekTyrant)

Growing up, I never had a really good Cap toy. It was either the toy was good but the shield was shit, or the shield was good but the toy was shit. So while this may just be a prototype from Hot Toys, it looks pretty amazing. Heres a few pics of it in ‘action’ with a ton more at the link:

I want one immediately. As in now.

The Dark Knight Rises Set Photos – (Batman-News)

We get our first look since Batman Begins at the newly constructed Wayne Manor, as well as a look at a graveyard, which may lean towards an iconic scene that has been missing from Nolan‘s bat films. Namely Wayne visiting his parents grave, which he does at least every year, if not more. You can check out more photos at the link, and the ones I will show you are courtesy of SuperHeroHype:

And finally:

Shia LaBeouf Wants to Play Arseface in Preacher – (Splashpage)

I have been dying to see a Preacher adaptation in one form or another, and director DJ Caruso has expressed interest, even giving us an idea of his cast list here, which included Chris Pine as Jesse Custer and Alex Pettyfer as the Saint of Killers. Shia LaBeouf has made no secret of his desire to play Arseface, and discusses it with MTV News:

“I love the [‘Preacher’] comics,” LaBeouf told MTV News. “I think Arseface would be awesome.”

Still, that doesn’t mean he’s a step away from playing the role. In fact, he’s still not certain where his future lies after Michael Bay’s “Transformers” franchise wraps up with “Dark of the Moon.”

“I’m still a hired gun,” he exaplained. “I don’t know what I’m going to do next.”

LaBeouf added that, while he’s seen a few pages of the “Preacher” script, John August’s adaptation is still very much a work in progress.

“He’s got a couple of pages he sent, but no full script yet,” said the actor.
