Today, we are exactly 2 months out from the release of Star Wars The Force Awakens and at 12:00 EST Star Wars revealed the official movie poster for the film while also announcing that the next trailer would air tomorrow night.
There are a few interesting things to note here about the poster. First of all, some the newcomers to the saga, Kylo Ren, Rey and Finn, are the most prominently featured characters on the poster. This isn’t hugely surprising as the teaser trailers we’ve received to this point also feature them more than any of the other characters. All of this points to them being the focal point of the movie, and likely the trilogy. Secondly, though we do see some familiar faces from the original trilogy like Han, Leia, Chewie, R2-D2 and C-3PO, Luke is conspicuously absent. This gives some credibility to the rumors that he wont be heavily involved in the events of this film, at least not directly. Lastly, what the hell is that thing just above Finn’s head!? It looks like some kind of new super weapon! Maybe we’ll get a little more info when trailer hits tomorrow.
Speaking of the trailer, some of you might be wondering why they would release it during tomorrow night’s coverage of Monday Night Football on ESPN. In case you weren’t aware, Disney also owns ESPN making Monday Night Football, which attracts millions of viewers, a great time for them to debut the full trailer. Especially as it has been widely speculated, though as of yet unconfirmed, that tickets will go on pre-sale tomorrow as well.
Be sure to check back here for our thoughts on the trailer once that drops tomorrow night. In the meantime, take a look at the behind the scenes reel they showed back in July at San Diego Comic Con. If you’ve already seen it, do yourself a favor and watch it again.
