Amanda is amazing. Amanda is spectacular. Amanda is humble.
Amanda is also a full time college student so take pity on her and don't complain when her TV reviews aren't up immediately following an episode.
The first trailer for 12 Years a Slave has arrived and let’s just say, this movie looks amazing.
Chiwetel Ejiofor, who has been at the top of many people’s list for Black Panther (speaking of, have you checked out our Justice League Casting Couch?), stars as Solomon Northrup. Based on his own memoirs of the same name, the film follows Northrup’s journey from being a freed man living in New York to being tricked by a fake job offer and sold into slavery.
If that’s not the crappiest thing that could happen to a person, I don’t know what is.
Joining Ejiofor is a star-studded cast including Brad Pitt, Alfre Woodard, Michael K. Williams (Chalky White in Boardwalk Empire), Paul Giamatti, Benedict Cumberbatch, Paul Dano, and Michael Fassbender.
12 Years a Slave marks the third time Michael Fassbender and director Steve McQueen have worked together. McQueen has been nominated and won many awards for his previous work but with this cast combined with a premiere date of December 26th, it appears as McQueen and company might be gunning for the big prize come Oscar time.
It needs to be said, Jimmy Palmiotti and Amanda Conner make the rest of us involved in the institution of marriage look like schlubs. Here they are, teaming up together to put forth great comic books and you know the most successful thing my husband and I have accomplished lately? We picked out a movie to watch together that we both didn’t hate. That’s it. Go us.
Palmiotti and Conner however? They are co-writing a new solo Harley Quinn title later this year. Since the launch of the New 52, Harley has been content to stick with the Suicide Squad, but now it’s time for her to shine once again with a solo adventure. This is great news for comic fans, as the duo have done great work together, including one of my favorite books in recent years, Power Girl: A New Beginning. Granted that was with Justin Grey as a co-writer, but you have to imagine the humor and fun found in that Power Girl series will carry over to a character who, at times, is filled with glee like Harley Quinn.
[box_light]Palmiotti: Harley is a complex character and we are going to build on her background, motivations and her home and supporting cast. Sort of what we did with Power Girl but with a mix of a bit more homicidal maniac added in.
Conner:Like Jimmy always says; A villain almost never believes that they are the bad guy. They usually think that they’re doing something for the greater good, or that they’re downtrodden and trying to overcome their repressors, or more than likely, they just want something.
Palmiotti: Amanda has a great gift of creating costumes that you can actually wear in real life. A lot of designs these days are so over the top, they just aren’t realistic on any level for a character to fight or even sit on the toilet with them.
Conner:We want to put her in a new surroundings, with new people, and see how she behaves in that environment. Is she going to try to keep it together, or is she just going to cut loose and introduce her new world to the Harley brand of crazy?[/box_light]
It’s no secret I can not stand Gillian Darmody, so seeing her in a courtroom perhaps on trial for the dead dude in the bathtub? Oh how sweet that would be.
Of course the rest of the trailer looks pretty badass as well.
We first saw Jeffrey Wright as the newcomer, Dr. Narcise, in this first season 4 trailer. We get a little bit more of him with this new trailer but it’s a little difficult getting a read off the guy. Is he Nucky’s ally? A rival? Much like everyone else in the show, a combination of both? Either way, Dr. Narcise should prove to be quite the interesting character this coming season. Plus, Al Capone coming into his own in Chicago will be incredibly entertaining, and very bloody.
Since Gillian is on trial (or at the very least involved in a court case in someway) it’s obviously shortly after the last season ended so it isn’t the ’30s yet, which means Luciano and his crew will probably still be underlings. You have to imagine they’ll be making some kind of move here soon.
All in all, season 4 is already shaping up to be quite exciting and we’ve still got quite a bit of time before the premiere rolls around on September 8th.
If you haven’t seen the Disney cartoon, Phineas and Ferb before, a little intro…
Phineas and Ferb are brothers, stepbrothers actually. Ferb’s Dad married Phineas’ Mom. They have a sister, Candace. The show takes place over summer break, and the brothers set out each day to do something spectacular. These spectacular things often are truly amazing such as the time they built a roller coaster through the entire town. Mom and Dad are completely oblivious to their doings, which chaps Candace’s ass something fierce. They have a pet platypus, Perry, who is actually a secret agent and spends his days escaping the boys and trying to take down the evil Dr. Doofenschmirtz.
For a children’s cartoon, it is incredibly well done with writing that is smart enough that an adult, like myself, can watch without wanting to jump out a window of a tall building like pretty much every other cartoon geared towards children. It is actually quite entertaining and available on Netflix so if you were looking for another show to get sucked into, Phineas and Ferb is a good one.
All that being said, why on Earth am I writing about Phineas and Ferb here on Grizzly Bomb? Well, here’s the thing. Phineas and Ferb are teaming up with our favorite Marvel characters in Phineas and Ferb: Mission Marvel.
[box_dark]In Phineas and Ferb: Mission Marvel, Spider-Man, Iron Man, Thor and Hulk stand powerless after being struck by Dr. Doofenshmirtz’s power-draining “inator.” Once the Marvel Super Villains – Red Skull, Whiplash, Venom and M.O.D.O.K. – find out that Dr. Doofenshmirtz is responsible for robbing the Super Heroes of their powers, they seek him out and together create mayhem in Danville. Meanwhile, Phineas and Ferb do everything they can to restore the Super Heroes’ powers before the evil villains take over the world[/box_dark]
Despite it being well over three years since Walt Disney Co. purchased Marvel in January of 2010, this is the first time the two franchises have met up on screen.
Phineas and Ferb: Mission Marvel will air on August 16th at 8 EST on Disney and Disney XD.
So remember when I professed my Lego love when talking about the Lego Movie trailer? Well, brace yourselves, it’s about to happen again. That’s because box art for the Lego Marvel Super Heroes video game has been released!!!! Yay!!!!
After playing every Batman game, both Harry Potters, and of course all the Star Wars, Indiana Jones, and most recently Lord of the Rings… I’m ready for Lego Marvel Super Heroes!
Looks like we’ve got who you’d expect to see: Iron Man, Captain America, Spider-Man, Wolverine, Hulk, Thing, Thor, Black Widow, Silver Surfer, Mr. Fantastic. The crazy part is that is a lot of characters right there on the box and those Lego games usually have over 100 characters that you can collect as you play so it’ll be interesting to see who all ends up in the game.
Of course it’s exciting to see the box art (love the mold holes in Wolverine’s claws), but really the best part of the game is the game itself. Thankfully there’s been some good gameplay trailers released and quite a bit that came out of E3 this year.
Looks pretty good right? Yeah, it does. Even though I’m a DC girl all the way, I can not wait for Lego Marvel Super Heroes. When I’ll have to wait until has yet to be seen as Tt Games is sticking with a release date of “Fall 2013”.
Filming of the second season of Arrow just started. Like yesterday. And already there is big news when it comes to casting and her name is Summer Glau. That’s right, the geek princess herself is coming to Starling City. With a show that has been drawing heavily from pretty much every other nerdy show out there – Battlestar Galatica, Doctor Who, more that I can’t remember right now – it feels like it was only a matter of time. Not only that but it appears as if I already believed that the character Glau is slated to play would someday appear on the show.
As you can clearly see, the name Isabel Rochev appears there below David Drayson. Waaaaaayyyy back towards the beginning of the season. I made note of this page when talking in this post about the upcoming episode with the Royal Flush Gang.
That’s right, Summer Glau has signed on in a “major role” in season two as Isabel Rochev, the Serbian businesswoman who is a bit off her rocker.
A fairly new character in the DC Universe, Isabel Rochev is a woman who once met Robert Queen, is starstruck by him and sets out to make her own life better using him as an example. Long story short (not too long it’s been less than five years), she sort of goes off the deep end. As she gets older she gathers up small companies and is able to in the long run own a controlling share of Queen Industries. Somehow in between the time of being a Serbian slave girl to actually taking over Queen Industries, she gets it in her head that she is actually the rightful heir to QI and that Robert Queen truly loves her.
Oh and most importantly? She wants Oliver out of the picture. For good.
Of course that’s the Isabel Rochev of the Star City. Isabel Rochev of Starling City, played by Glau, is the head of Stellmore International which is in the hunt to take over Queen Consolidated. Talk about kicking a man when he’s down. Moira is off to jail, Oliver is likely going to start the season off brooding over Tommy, and Thea? Who the hell knows what Thea will be doing. Seems about the right time for a ruthless business woman to step in and right the floundering ship.
As a matter of fact, Summer Glau will first appear as Isabel Rochev in the season two premiere of Arrow in October.
