As if you needed a James Bond type announcement, but it’s pretty much confirmed that the Bluths will indeed return for a 5th season. Slashfilm and WarmingGlow reported that last week, creator Mitchell Hurwitz confirmed that the Bluths will be back, delivering a definitive “definitely” in Montreal at the Just for Laughs comedy festival. In fact, Hurwitz even went as far as asking the Netflix chief content officer, Ted Sarandos, who was conveniently sitting with him if they could discuss it at the moment because he’s got “kids to feed.”
Sarandos immediately obliged him and Hurwitz started bouncing ideas off of him, showing how he has the next iteration of the amazing series mapped out in his head with multiple options.
‘I kinda go back and forth between [a movie] and a series. But here’s the most important thing, whatever we do, I want to get the cast all together and not do another anthology thing, and that’s why I keep thinking about kicking off with a special or a three-part show and then going into a series.
Then he asked Sarandos: ‘Are you game for that?’.
‘Absolutely,’ the Netflix boss replied. ‘In any form.’
So I’d like to think that’s totally on the record now but we all know that means nothing until everyone finally gets together again. We have been hearing the whole Arrested Development will be back news without seeing the reality for years so hopefully they can get this all together a lot sooner than last time. While I still hope for a movie, I think if they can do a season 5 and not have to cram in so much raw material into a two hour, it will pay a lot more dividends. Of course, I would love a lot more interaction between all of them because, let’s face it, you can tell they were all on different schedules when filming the last season. All of them in the room, doing the chicken dance…it’s really all I can ask for. So Mr. Hurwitz, Ron Howard, anyone who would listen, make that happen.
