New Characters Revealed in Batman: Arkham Origins Screenshots

The cast of characters in the upcoming Batman: Arkham Origins game has been slowly rounding itself out as its release inches closer and closer, and recently a batch of screenshots surfaced confirming the appearances of several new faces in the Dark Knight’s video game franchise.

Here we see Anarky and Firefly, two of Bats’s more minor villains, who should mix up the combat scenarios a little what with the flying and fire-shooting and gadgets and such. However there’s another character in the set of photos who just might be more of a surprising addition:

Katana

The sword-wielding femme fatale seen here mid-fight with Deathstroke is likely Katana. Her inclusion in the game makes a lot of sense considering Arkham Origins allowed players to step out of the cowl and play as Robin and Catwoman in certain areas of the game. It will be interesting to see if Katana is a multiplayer-only character or if she’ll have more of a presence in the single-player campaign.

[UPDATE: Yesterday Arkham Origins‘s official Twitter page confirmed that Arkham Origins will not be released on Xbox One or Playstation 4, making a strictly current-gen game:

Not only is he working on A Million Ways to Die in the West (coming May 30th 2014…hopefully) and executive producing the return of Cosmos, he also has another movie in the works. He confirmed on Twitter recently that he has an idea of the release date for the sequel to his hit raunchy comedy TedCollider had this quote from Seth who said:

Sharni Vinson Tapped For Female Expendables Flick! Also I Love Her.

Sharni Vinson, the star of the recently released horror flick You’re Next, has lined up her next gig and I couldn’t help but stand up and applaud. Off her awesome badass turn as survivalist Erin, according to TotalFilm and HitFlix, she has earned her way to teaming with some of the other female badasses of the world onto the female Expendables movie. Again, after seeing her wield knives, blenders and keeping her wits about her in You’re Next, Sharni Vinson definitely deserves to be in this movie.

sharni vinson you're next 2

The flick also stars Gina Carano and Katee Sackhoff so there’s a lot of badass estrogen inhabiting the flick as we speak. Granted, it has yet to have an official name but if it means they get to trade-off the Expendables name a bit longer, whatever it takes to work to get the word out. This project has been bandied about for the last few months and is starting to gather steam. Granted, the pool of female action/sci-fi/horror stars is smaller than the men’s (especially considering the 80s is where most of the Expendables reigned over) but there’s still potential.

As for who else they could add, I’m surprised that Michelle Rodriguez hasn’t joined the flick considering her run of movies. Heck, if we’re spitballing, why not Maggie Q or even get Sigourney Weaver because let’s face it, she was the Queen Badass as Ripley. You can also try Sarah Michelle Gellar, Anna Torv, Franka Potente (go see Run Lola Run), Milla Jovovich, Linda Hamilton, Lena Headey…I’m sure there are more but you get the idea. I think you can do some fun casting with this, just like the Expendables. Regardless, I’m about to totally destroy the message of girl power because I’m posting a picture of Sharni Vinson in a bikini. I don’t do this intentionally but I’m not going to lie, she looks just as incredible in that bikini, just like she looks as incredible wielding an axe in the lead picture being a totally badass.

Walking Dead Season 4 Tease Last Night Makes Us Ask If It’s October Yet

Last night during Low Winter Sun, AMC took the opportunity to tease us with a short scene from The Walking Dead season 4.

The clip doesn’t reveal much in the way of story, but we do get a glimpse at the beefed up prison defenses as well as fan favorite Michonne (Danai Gurira) riding a horse and then getting into a tussle with some walkers as she tries to get back into the prison. A hatless Carl (Chandler Riggs) and Maggie (Lauren Cohan) also appear in the clip as they run to her assistance.

Season 4 picks up several months following the Governor’s failed attack at the end of season 3, after which he turned on his own people and disappeared into the distance with his remaining loyal grunts. The Governor is still out there and Rick and his group, now including Tyreese (Chad Coleman) and the remaining Woodbury survivors they took in, are preparing in case he returns as well as any new threats that are on the horizon.

New showrunner Scott Gimple recently warned fans at the San Diego Comic-Con not to get too comfortable with the nature of the threat the walkers or the Governor impose. “They might get a little comfortable, but then things might get a little dangerous,”. We will see the walkers “evolve” and will get a more determined Governor hell-bent on bringing down Rick and the group.

The Walking Dead the TV series is known for taking the comics only as inspiration in terms of themes and season 3 only just started to touch on the levels of depravity and sick natured acts that the Governor displays in the comic series. It will be great to see season 4 continue to amp up the threat of the Governor following his final step into madness at the end of season 3 and cement his place as one of the greatest TV villains. In case you need reminding, The Walking Dead returns Oct. 13 on AMC. Mark them calendars.

’12 Monkeys’ Looks To Jump To Small Screen For SyFy

SyFy just got a little bit more…Science Fictiony. Anyways, remember that great, underrated Terry Gilliam movie 12 Monkeys? If not, go watch it, it’s pretty darn fantastic. If so, guess what? They want to make it a series and according to the Hollywood Reporter, SyFy has officially ordered a pilot for the movie turned television show to see if they can make it happen on the cable channel.

SyFy was actually initially thinking of throwing all the eggs into one basket and ordering the whole season but decided to see how the pilot works out first. The project initially was being developed about a month ago and apparently the pilot treatment came out so well that production will be ramping up to start filming by November. Behind it are producers Charles Roven and Richard Suckle, who helped produce the original film, as they made the pitch to the cable network and will be the executive producers behind the pilot. Nikita and Terra Nova writers Terry Matalas and Travis Fickett are writing the hour long pilot script as well.

SyFy has been jumping all over the original scripted series train after the success of the risky Defiance series. They also have pilot orders for High Noon from Pushing Daisies’ Bryan Fuller, Rewind and a series order for Helix, which will all launch in 2014. No word on the involvement from original collaborators and actors Terry Gilliam, Bruce Willis and Brad Pitt but considering it’s television, it’s very unlikely they they will be involved in a creative or acting capacity. No word either on what the plot would be but it’s an interesting concept and echoing one Brian Kronner in saying that the best television series are cable shows, the potential is definitely there for something riveting and thought provoking. Yes, even from the network that brought you Sharknado. Which was awesome so yes, the bar is high for 12 Monkeys.

Monsters: Dark Continent – Tease Infects Your Screen

In 2010 first time director Gareth Edwards crept up on the world and released the indie spectacular that was Monsters. Having now moved on to direct Godzilla for Warner Brothers, Gareth Edwards has handed the reigns for the sequel over to another first-time feature film  Tom Green of Misfits fame.

Empire magazine recently released an exclusive first look at Monsters: Dark Continent, which Edwards is co-producing. The footage reveals very little in terms of story but does a great job at setting up the tone of the film and certainly creates an atmosphere which is reassuringly close to what Edwards established in Monsters.

Monsters: Dark Continent expands the world that Edwards created and moves the setting to a different Infected Zone, this time the Middle-East, which the U.S. military have now taken control of. Green is aiming to stick to the theme of intimate, human story telling that Monsters captured by piecing together over 100 hours of footage which he shot on hand held cameras as he travelled across North America with stars Whitney Able and Scoot McNairy.

Green has said, in terms of creating the same mood for the sequel:
“As soon as I watched Monsters I completely identified with the idea of using real locations as a foundation on which to build a world of limitless scale. From my first visit to the location shown here, in Jordan, it was somewhere I felt was key to making Dark Continent work. The moonscape-like environment was the perfect basis for an ‘alien’ landscape. The quarry trucks you see here became ‘buggies’ to transport the remains of firebombed monster herds to be incinerated, with all the leading characters emerging from the dust to witness the scale of the death toll for the first time — and for one character maybe too many times…”
Monsters: Dark Continent stars Joe Dempsie (Game Of Thrones), Sam Keeley (What Richard Did) and  Johnny Harris (Welcome To The Punch) and will be released in 2014.
