Arrow: Season 2 – Marc Guggenheim Talks Possible Villains

Executive producer Marc Guggenheim sat down with ComicBookResources to talk about Arrow season two. It’s a very interesting interview in terms of what they envision as the “trajectory” of Oliver, plus hints about who we might see from the DC universe in this upcoming season.

Sam Rockwell and Vin Diesel Talk Marvel, Plus Doctor Strange’s New Role in the MCU?

With San Diego Comic-Con just a couple of weeks away, news from the major studios will be relatively slim, as they prepare most big announcements for the fan favorite event. So what better time than now to take a look at a few of the rumors and discussions that just might hold us over until SDCC.

First up we have Sam Rockwell discussing the future of Justin Hammer in the MCU (Marvel Cinematic Universe, as if we really have to keep explaining this). He was pretty much the best part of Iron Man 2, and his return to the MCU would be welcomed by fans. Even if it was just to see some of those sweet, sweet, dance moves. Here’s what he had to say on Justin Hammer’s potential in the MCU:

Drew: The Man Behind the Poster – Drew Struzan Finally Gets Some Well Deserved Credit

Drew Struzan is a man at first glance you will probably not recognise. But as soon as his pencil hits paper he becomes instantly recognisable. This is the man that has been responsible for some of the greatest poster art seen in movies today. Newer fans will know his work on the Harry Potter movies while 80s fans will know him for his art on the time travel classic Back to the Future or the posters showing the wacky bunch from Police Academy. Most people will probably know him as the guy that gave us the iconic covers for some of George Lucas best work mainly Indiana Jones and the Star Wars movies. Looks like Drew is finally going to be in the spot light himself with this new documentary, Drew: The Man Behind the Poster the trailer of which has just hit YouTube and which you can watch below.

“He’s part of the movie going experience” is the key quote (among many in this trailer) that really sums up the joy of seeing Drew’s work. It is great to watch so many talented and interesting people in the film and entertainment industry gush over how incredible his art is and the most important thing to come out of this trailer is the fact that his work creates feelings among those that see it. The fun thing about this trailer is just that, the fun of it all. Drew seems to be a very laid back individual and being a master of his craft has not made him big headed about it. Another element which I cannot wait to see more of is how he actually creates these pieces.

The thing that I always liked about his artwork other than the fact it is incredibly detailed is that he is still going strong and representing a bygone era of film advertising where pretty much every film had some painted artwork to represent it. With most of today’s releases even getting the Photoshop treatment or a poorly devised photo shoot design it’s a refreshing change to still see Drew create these incredible pieces that capture the magic of cinema. This is the kind of thing that got my bum into a seat in the cinema and it attracted me to take VHS out in my youth. Drew is still one of the best artists of this style of artwork out there and it is great to see a documentary made on his work.

If you like what you have seen and cannot wait for this documentary to come out then why not check out his website HERE  where tons of his work is up for sale or even splash out and buy his art book from HERE . If you are lucky enough to be at the San Diego Comic Con then you can see this documentary debut on July 19th. Otherwise you can wait until its official release on August 16th in New York and then other cinemas to follow (thanks to FIRST SHOWING for that information). Hopefully the documentary will live up to the fascinating trailer. This reviewer will certainly be keeping his fingers crossed for this to be the case.

‘Beware the Batman’ Releases a Sizzle Reel and Our First Look at the Opening Credits!

Batman in many forms has graced the small screen with his presence for years, but has recently been off the air for a few months (since Young Justice was cancelled), which is far too long to be without a Batman cartoon. Thankfully, Cartoon Network is bringing a brand new series set to debut on July 13th called Beware the Batman that takes a new look at the Dark Knight.

NBC and Lion Forge Comics to Bring Classic Shows Back to Life

Be honest, you’ve always wanted to read a comic about Saved by the Bell. No? Well, you’re getting the chance to anyway. Teaming up with Lion Forge Comics, NBCUniversal is bringing back quite of a few of their fan favorites from yesteryear in comic book form.

Not only just Saved By the Bell though. Nope, you’ll soon be able to catch up on the hijinks of Kit, the talking car, in Knight Rider, and all our old friends in Airwolf, Punky Brewster, and Miami Vice. I for one can not wait to see Don Johnson’s comic book counterpart, complete with rolled up sleeves.

Lion Forge Comics
Oh yeah, this will do.

While I imagine these books will likely deal with the characters in the same time period as the original shows, I would love to see them do it as more of a “where are they now” kind of thing. Is Stringfellow Hawke back in his mountain cabin? Is he still playing his cello for all the forest wildlife? What about Zach and Kelly from Saved By The Bell? Did those two crazy kids ever make it work? Surely Zach has found him some middle management soul sucking desk job that forces him to spend countless hours a day wishing he was back in high school to relive his good ol’ days.

Instead it’ll probably just be stories from when the shows aired, which frankly isn’t nearly as entertaining a prospect as my idea.

Amazingly enough, they are actually putting people with actual comic experience on this project with people like Joelle Sellner (Teen Titans) and Jonathon London (Geekscape), Geoffrey Thorne, and David Gordon. Artists Jason Johnson, Carl Reed, and Lorenzo Lizana are also on board.

The people at Lions Forge will be at Comic-Con and participating in a panel on July 20th so hopefully we’ll get a look at these books sooner rather than later.

“Plastic Movies Rewound” Creator and Director, Mike Malloy, Interview

The VHS format has come back in a big way in the last few years with an almost phoenix-style resurrection coming in no small part from the fans of the medium who wanted to keep it alive. Now with documentaries like Adjust Your Tracking (you can find an interview with creator Dan Kinem here) and Rewind This covering what it means to be a collector, it appears that the video cassette format has pretty much been covered. Not quite. Though these new documentaries cover more the love of collecting, the fans and the VHS medium, we have yet to see a documentary that covers the history of the video cassette, its distribution and the many avenues of history it covered in its 20 years as the number one home viewing format. Director Mike Malloy plans to change all that with his Kickstarter project Plastic Movies Rewound. It plans to cover the birth of the home video market, the trials and tribulations distributors went through, the many video formats that came out and lots more. Below is a video of some of the footage Mike has shot so far for his project and it is certainly impressive.
