News has come via Killer POV Podcast that genre supreme grandmaster John Carpenter is currently developing four new series for television. Working with his long-term production partner (and wife) Sandy King Carpenter, the two have put together four new projects consisting of at least one horror, one sci-fi, and a “sci-fi/horror futuristic kind of thing.”
Right now, there’s four series waiting to go to network. As far as I’m concerned, we’ll do all of them. I mean, they’re great, and they’re different from anything that’s out there, and they again push the boundaries of what’s horror. [John] would be directing pilots and we would be executive producing them. There’s sci-fi, there’s horror, there’s one that I guess would be [a] sci fi-horror futuristic kind of thing. They’re all across the board. I think they’ll fulfill what people expect out of him by also being unpredictable.
King says all of them are currently waiting to go to network, with Carpenter directing the pilots and executive producing. This is great news for all sci-fi and horror fans, especially those who have grown up on Carpenter and King’s tandem work on projects such as They Live and Big Trouble in Little China.
His work over the last decade and a half has fallen on mostly deaf ears, but the following for his classic films has continued to grow at an exponential rate. With the current resurgence in the genre and the Carpenter’s popularity, the timing couldn’t be better.
