Antlers: First Trailer For Supernatural Thriller From Producer Guillermo del Toro

Fox Searchlight has released the first trailer and poster for Antlers, a rural horror film directed by Scott Cooper (Black Mass) and produced by Oscar-winner Guillermo del Toro (The Shape of Water).

In Antlers, a small-town Oregon teacher (Keri Russell) and her brother (Jesse Plemons), the local sheriff, discover that a young student (Jeremy T. Thomas) is harboring a dangerous secret with frightening consequences. The first teaser is light on narrative but gives audiences their first impression of the kind of mood Cooper, del Toro, and co. are going for.

Check out the first teaser trailer for Antlers below:

In addition to Keri Russell (The Americans) and Jesse Plemons (Friday Night Lights), Antlers co-stars Graham Greene (Dances With Wolves) and Rory Cochrane (Empire Records), Scott Haze (Venom), and Uncle Buck‘s Amy Madigan. The supernatural thriller also represents del Toro’s next big studio producing credit on a film following the moderate success of Scary Stories To Tell In The DarkAntlers is Cooper’s first film since his deeply underrated 2017 Western, Hostiles.

When talking about his influences for the film, Cooper said:

“I was so influenced early on by the work of John Carpenter, like Halloween, or certainly The Exorcist which is a favorite of mine, or even Tarkovsky’s Stalker. So I’m able to bring all of that into one film which is exciting.”

Cooper also co-wrote Antlers with C. Henry Chaisson & Nick Antosca, based on Antosca’s short story. Better known as the creator of the criminally underrated horror anthology series Channel Zero, it’ll be equal parts interesting and exciting to see what Antosca is bringing to screens next. Fox Searchlight will open the horror-thriller next year.

Another interesting note is that this film is technically distributed by Walt Disney Pictures. Following the acquisition of 21st Century Fox, the supernatural thriller (which is likely to garner an R-rating) is now owned by the House of Mouse.

In addition to the short trailer, a poster for the film was also released. You can check that out below:
