Brannon Braga (The Orville) directed Books of Blood for Hulu, named after the six volumes of original Clive Barker stories that were published in the mid-’80s. Braga also co-wrote and executive produced the film, with Seth MacFarlane executive producing alongside him. Yes. Family Guy, American Dad, The Orville‘s Seth MacFarlane is on board this thing in some way.
Clive Barker is best known for his early days as a novelist before bursting on to the scene with his adaptation of Hellraiser. Stephen King hailed the Brit as the “the future of horror,” and his movies and writing has been synonymous with warped sensibilities, tomes of torturous glee, and undertones (or is that overtones) of Queer cinema. Barker has often shown forbidden territory through multiple mediums and his six volumes to Books of Blood series have spawned several films, including The Midnight Meat Train, Rawhead Rex, Quicksilver Highway, Lord of Illusions, Dread, and of course, Candyman.
Books of Blood will also be the opening night screening of the 20th annual Screamfest Horror Film Festival on October 6th. The film will screen under the stars at the stunning opening night location of Calamigos Ranch in Malibu, CA, and will take audiences on a journey into uncharted and forbidden territory through three uncanny tales tangled in space and time.
