Last week we talked a little bit about the upcoming Total Recall remake, and made fun of the fact that they released a trailer for the trailer. Which we ate up. Well now the actual trailer is out and we thought you might like to see it.
So as Hollywood proves how unoriginal it is, we continue to be spoon-fed reboots, remakes, sequels, prequels, and the lamest of all – reimaginings. And the worst part – they know we’re dumb enough to keep paying to see these things, so they’ll never stop. I admit, I’m the worst offender of all. I’m gonna watch the shit out of the new Total Recall, because I loved the old Total Recall. The difference here is, while I love the original, I love it mostly because of Arnold. Now we are clearly devoid an Arnold. Can Colin Farrell make us forget about Schwarzenegger?
No, he can’t.
But he can try, and he won’ t be alone. Joining Mr. Farrell we have a pretty strong cast – Kate Beckinsale, Jessica Biel, John Cho, Bill Nighy, Bokeem Woodbine, and Walter White Bryan Cranston. No Michael Ironside, but pretty strong none the less.
Now, we finally have some footage to go along with that cast list, and it comes to us in the form of a teaser…for the teaser. Yeah, that’s right – a 30 second preview for the trailer, which will air on TV durning the Heat/Celtics game on Game of Thrones Day this Sunday. Stupid, I know, but aside from some photos, this is all we’ve got so far.
Here is the Press Release…

Commenting on the announcement, Weinstock said, “We’re thrilled to be working with the NBA and ABC to give millions of fans all across the country this exciting first look at the trailer.”
Total Recall is an action thriller about reality and memory, inspired anew by the famous short story “We Can Remember It For You Wholesale” by Philip K. Dick. Welcome to Rekall, the company that can turn your dreams into real memories. For a factory worker named Douglas Quaid (Colin Farrell), even though he’s got a beautiful wife (Kate Beckinsale) whom he loves, the mind-trip sounds like the perfect vacation from his frustrating life – real memories of life as a super-spy might be just what he needs. But when the procedure goes horribly wrong, Quaid becomes a hunted man. Finding himself on the run from the police – controlled by Chancellor Cohaagen (Bryan Cranston) – there is no one Quaid can trust, except possibly a rebel fighter (Jessica Biel) working for the head of the underground resistance (Bill Nighy). The line between fantasy and reality gets blurred and the fate of his world hangs in the balance as Quaid discovers his true identity, his true love, and his true fate. The film is directed by Len Wiseman. The screenplay is by Kurt Wimmer and Mark Bomback and the screen story is by Ronald Shusett & Dan O’Bannon and Jon Povill. The producers are Neal H. Moritz and Toby Jaffe.
And the synopsis teaches us that Bill Nighy is the new Quatto!!
Ok, but I know what you really want is this teaser, so behold…
David Cronenberg is one of those directors who’s really never made a bad film, yet he’s never even been nominated for an Oscar. Why? Because the Oscars are bullshit, but what else is new? Cronenberg, much like other extremely cerebral directors like William Friedkin and Harmony Korine, has a way of tapping into the human psyche in a way that seems comfortably strange. Relatable in some ways, completely unheard of in others.
Last year, Cronenberg directed the critically acclaimed and surprisingly mainstream erotic-drama-thriller, A Dangerous Method. This year, he seems to be going back to his surrealist routes with Cosmopolis. Starring Robert Pattinson, the film follows Eric Packer, a 28-year-old billionaire asset manager whose day devolves into an odyssey with a cast of characters that start to tear his world apart. Based on the novel by Don DeLillo, Cronenberg will write and direct this film, set to be released sometime in 2012.
For those of you doubting the strength of Robert Pattinson as an actor, just shut up. Seriously, just shut up already. The guy did the nearly impossible – He escaped the Twilight persona. Robert Pattinson is an extremely talented young actor with an already eclectic resume and disgustingly bright future ahead of him. And I’m not just saying this because I love Twilight, which I don’t. I’m saying it because the difference between him and Taylor Lautner is that Pattinson actually understands the meaning of emotion and facial expression.
If you haven’t heard of Iron Sky, you’re about to cause how could you not hear about this Sci-Fi ‘Nazis on the Moon’ comedy!?! We’ve posted it before, but since people rarely pay attention to anything, here is the trailer again…
Looks over the top awesome.
And now what we have here is the first 4 minutes…
The film – directed by Finland’s Timo Vuorensloa – has been in development for six years and has cost $10 million. And if these four minutes are anything to go by it’s been time and money well spent.
So far it’s only been released in Finland, but it’s due to open in 30 more countries on the 4th of April. Then in Germany on the 5th and the UK on the 20th (YAY!). It doesn’t have a US release date yet but the rights have been picked up by Entertainment One, so hopefully you’ll get to see it soon.
So if you only see one Moon Nazi film this year make sure it’s Iron Sky.
But fear not, there is more! I thought it was time we collected everything in one spot. If you can’t tell, I’m pretty excited for this movie. For almost my whole life I’ve wondered what was up with this dude – the space jockey from the original Alien film, now we’re gonna find out.
Let’s start with the videos. Here is one we haven’t posted before, part of their viral marketing. In the same vein as the Peter Weyland video, this is more about the company and deals with the creation of androids, in the footsteps of Ian Holm and Lance Henriksen.

Next is the new UK Trailer, which takes a totally different approach from the American spots, and adds in some footage we’ve not see yet…
Despite Director Ridely Scott’s claims that his upcoming Prometheus is only vaguely related to his Sci-Fi/Horror classic Alien, the more footage that comes out, the clearer it becomes the films are unmistakably related. Last month we saw the clip of Guy Pierce‘s character ‘Peter Weyland’ giving a speech and hinting towards the technology that would make possible the later space exploration. Now we have an extended look…
So, we have the music from the original, the ship from the original, the space jockey, LV-426, and the Weyland Company.
