The Countdown to Halloween continues and already we’ve seen some great reviews of some great movies. And there are lots more to come. Well, 25 more. 26? Whatever.
We’ve seen some classics, so I want to move ahead a few years and take a look at one of the newer crop of horrors to come out. A movie That takes everything you love about classic horror, then flips it around to attack you with it. Patented rules of horror? There are no rules. Too much blood and gore? It’s NEVER enough.

Aside from college football, playoff baseball, and hunting season, one of the many rewards I benefit from in the month of October is that it also seems to be the unofficial horror movie month. There’s something about taking two hours out of your day, to completely detach yourself from the real world, and scare the shit out of your girlfriend, that I continuously get enjoyment out of. One of my favorite horror movies of all time, and the one that I have decided to write my first horror movie review on is, “The Texas Chainsaw Massacre.”

After much consideration about what my favorite horror movie was, I came to the third installment of the Nightmare on Elm Street series: Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors, given to us by Wes Craven in 1987. This movie begins with Kristen Parker (Patricia Arquette) putting together a model house with Popsicle sticks… the house of Freddy Krueger (Robert Englund) who is haunting her dreams. The beginning was in fact… all a dream. It is a scary and fantastic way to begin a horror movie.

I love Halloween. Everything about it. The costumes, the candy, the parties. But most importantly? It’s the one time of the year where you get to watch as many horror movies as you want without people judging or thinking you’re a closet serial killer who’s studying the fine art of murder. But not all horror is about slow-walking, mask-wearing, virgin-hunting unkillable killers. Sometimes we get a look at the less structured side of horror.
