While this has not yet been confirmed, a few reliable sources have reported that Marion Cotillard could be coming to Gotham. Cotillard is a French actress who you might recognize from BIG FISH or PUBLIC ENEMIES, but most prominently from last summer’s INCEPTION, where she played Leonardo DiCaprio’s dead wife. As we are still in the rumor stage surrounding THE DARK KNIGHTS RISES it’s not yet clear who she would play if she does indeed show up in Nolan’s 3rd Bat-film. Most popular guess right now: Talia al Ghul.
The daughter of Ras al Ghul, she first appeared in Detective Comics #411 (May 1971). Her usual role is as a recurring love interest for Batman, and recently revealed she had given birth to a son years earlier, she is Batman’s Baby Mama.
Talia was raised by assassins, and is herself a trained killer. Despite this upbringing, early on seemed resistant to her father’s plans for world domination. So much so that he repeatedly attempted to replace her as his heir. First trying to marry her off to “The Detective” (Batman) and then later to Bane, whom he saw as more suitable leaders. But she has changed over the years as the head of her father’s “League of Assassins”, pushing her own brink of sanity, and using her son as a puppet in an attempt to kill the acting Batman, Dick Grayson.
Now seeing as in the history of the comic books, Batman’s 2 most storied romances are with Talia and Selina Kyle (Catwoman), it seems cluttered to introduce them both in the same movie. This leads me to believe Talia most likely wont appear.
They could use Talia’s link to the “League of Assassins” (or League of Shadows in the Nolan films) to bring Bane in, as he was once a member of said League. Who knows for sure. All that being said, I kind of hope she does appear since she is among the more interesting female characters in all the DC Universe.
This is the news that came out of the French daily newspaper Le Figaro:
Marion Cotillard in “Batman 3″. The actress, who is expecting a child in the spring with Guillaume Canet, will be scarce this year. She’ll do a single film and her choice fell on Batman 3. This blockbuster produced by Warner Bros. enables her to work with the director Christopher Nolan, with whom she had turned very successful sci-fi Inception. Marion Cotillard will join the filming this summer in Los Angeles.
Regardless of whom she would play, Marion Cotillard would join other INCEPTION alums Michael Caine, Joseph Gordon Levitt, and Tom Hardy. Not to mention Director Christopher Nolan, and BATMAN BEGINS star Ken Watanabe.
