‘Hawkman’ Treatment: Indiana Jones meets DaVinci Code?

Now obviously nothing is confirmed, or even moving forward, but there has been a report of a Hawkman film treatment out there. And there’s no doubt that DC will be looking at ways to market any and all heroes. Lately it seems comic book movies are getting better and better, and DC has yet to fully tap that market. Sometimes not for their lack of trying.

I think it’s safe to assume that Hawkman would not be considered the first choice to bring into the world of Hollywood. I’m actually a Hawkman fan, and I still don’t think he’s ready for Hollywood. But that’s just my opinion. Here’s the report over at Splashpage:

“Aquaman IS a close friend of mine, why do you ask?”

Rumor has it a “Hawkman” movie is being shepherded by producers Adrian Askarieh, Gregory Novack and production executive Will Hackner. The info comes courtesy of It’sOnTheGrid (via The Playlist), a members-only site for tracking Hollywood project seedlings.

You can read the prospective log-line for the potential film below, and it’s interesting, to say the least:

Part INDIANA JONES/DA VINCI CODE, part GHOST tentpole about the fictional superhero that appears in D.C. Comic books. He used archaic weaponry and large, artificial wings attached to a harness made of the Nth metal that allows flight. Most incarnations of Hawkman work closely with a partner/romantic interest named Hawkgirl or Hawkwoman in his fight against supervillains. Based on the DC comic.

If nothing else, comparisons to films like those of the “Indiana Jones” and “Da Vinci Code” franchises point toward the likelihood of this storyline exploring the character’s original origin, in which American archeologist Carter Hall discovers he’s a reincarnated ancient Egyptian prince, rather than origins involving the planet Thanagar. Of course, this is all still rumor at this point.

So in all honesty, that sounds like a great approach to take with Hawkman. Easily one of the most confusing histories in the DC Universe, or any universe really. Check out his Wiki and try to read it before your eyes cross. And that’s the shortened version that makes sense…

Yea, let’s sit through a two hour movie explaining that… sounds fun

It’s not that crazy to think of Hawkman hitting Hollywood. I mean, he’s been around as long as Green Lantern, and in fact is kind of similar to Green Lantern in a lot of ways. Not really powers, personality, or story. But connections with the League, space faring races and so on, it could all work. So if Green Lantern can work (we’ll see), Hawkman with apparently Indiana Jones and The Da Vinci Code mixed in might be able to as well.

So we could talk about whether or not Hawkman would be a good flick, but I think it was already said best the other week in Grizzly Links, and I just have to show it to you again:

Awesome. I say they need to go full out buddy ‘cop’ movie with Hawkman and the Atom. Now that could be Hollywood magic.

“So… Your really gonna go with the whole no shirt thing, then?”

So tell us what you think about a Hawkman movie. Mining for gold? Digging through garbage? Speak out in the comments section below!
