The GrizzlyBomb 2012 Comic-Con Preview!

It is that time of the year again and it is time to revel in the wonders that is the San Diego Comic-Con 2012! One of the biggest things this year for our site is that we will actually be in attendance and representing GrizzlyBomb as we go to the biggest place where news on comics, television, movies, and video games breaks every minute from July 12th-15th and of course we will document it all. We are going to be on the show floor and I will be your guide and your way in to panels, booths, and probably pictures of the lovely booth babes so please visit as much as you can during the next week because we’re going to be knee-deep in some fun stuff.

Over the years, the panels have become some of the biggest places where announcements are made, stars have shown up, great Q&As have been done so we are going to do a preview on what we think will be some heavy hitters and must sees in San Diego.

Obviously the one panel I think is a must see is the Game of Thrones panel in Hall H. Now, it has seen some changes in the last few days because Lena Headey had to bow out due to a scheduling conflict, and Kit Harrington recently broke his ankle so he will not be in attendance either. We still will be getting Alfie Allen, Richard Madden, Emilia Clarke (above), Michelle Fairley, and recent addition Rose Leslie so it will still a good panel to attend. Obviously, the big topic of discussion will be how season 3 will be done because they are taking the next book and dividing it up between two seasons due to the sheer amount of content in the book. So yeah, we will definitely be there.

Another panel is the Marvel Studios one and that should be obvious. Iron Man 3 is expected to get some publicity and with them filming as we speak, producer Kevin Feige will be in the house to introduce that and the now buzzing short film Item 47 with Lizzy Caplan and Jesse Bradford. Marvel is particularly excited for this as it will try to reinforce the idea of the one-shot movie, not unlike a comic book one-shot, that takes a non-serialized story in the universe and uses it to help add a bit more perspective. There is also I am sure to be news of Thor 2, Captain America 2, and The Avengers 2 movie so of course we will geek out over that.

The Dexter panel will be an interesting one to attend as well considering they have just wrapped their 7th season filming and will be premiering in the next few months. The obvious idea of the cliffhanger involving Dex and his sister will be the big thing that gets discussed, but also with the announcement that this will all be ending in the 8th season, it is time about thinking about the end game. The panel will involve Michael C. Hall, Jennifer Carpenter, and Comic-con fan fave for Chuck, Yvonne Strahovski. We’ll also see executive producers John Goldwyn, Sara Colleton, Scott Buck, and Manny Coto so that will shed some light as to how they will go out with a bang.

Another big draw will be the Firefly 10 year reunion. Everyone is coming back from Joss Whedon, to Nathan Fillion, Adam Baldwin, Gina Torres, Alan Tudyk, Morena Baccarin, Sean Maher, and Summer Glau, and it will be glorious and nostalgic. Rumor is that they will have an announcement and our guess is that there will be a cartoon coming…

The Walking Dead panel will be great as well which will include Andrew Lincoln, Sarah Wayne Callies, Norman Reedus, Laurie Holden, Steven Yeun, Lauren Cohan, and Danai Gurira as Michonne and David Morrissey as The Governor. This will the first big reaction to the new guys in their roles and I’m sure San Diego will treat them well. They will join executive producer Glen Mazzara, executive producer Robert Kirkman, executive producer Gale Anne Hurd, and special effects makeup supervisor and co-executive producer Greg Nicoter for more insight into the fall premiere of season 3.

Some other television panels worth seeing would be Glee (shut up, I like Glee even though it is impossible it will ever reach the charm of season 1), Nikita (mostly because my dad does not shut up about Maggie Q), the Breaking Bad panel (because it’s freaking Breaking Bad and the premiere is coming up this weekend), Falling Skies, the Simpsons, Once Upon a Time, and the True Blood panel amongst several others that we could all watch, but I am limited in time and space.

Another big one will be the Warner Bros. panel. Mostly because obviously the Batman trilogy is drawing to a close, but they will also be showing off their (hopeful) replacement in Man of Steel, the Zack Snyder helmed return for the Superman. We shall find out if we are closer to another genre-defying franchise of movies or just the final nail in the coffin in assembling the ‘Justice League’ together. Also at Warner Bros. is the  movie Pacific Rim which is starting to heat up with some buzz so hopefully we will have more info on tat in the next coming days. Of course, last but not least is the reveal of the Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, which will have everyone under the sun involved and it’s the friggin’ Hobbit movie. That is ‘the must-see’ event in my opinion.

Django Unchained will also get the Comic-Con treatment as Quentin brings his newest feature to show off the fanboys in Hall H.  The Disney movie panel will include Oz: The Great and Powerful, and The Expendables 2 panel will feature the majority of the stars getting ready for that movie’s release in the next month. The Sony Pictures panel will have Total Recall (that movie better not disappoint…), Elysium (which looks awesome), and Looper (also looks awesome because the new trailer looks well…awesome).

Other panels to look forward to? You also got the Femme Fatales panel getting ready to finish their season with a bang (so to speak), the Mass Effect panel, Kevin Smith will be there recounting stories, Shameless will be there, the Assassin’s Creed 3 panel and showing off of the game, etc., etc., etc…

Basically there’s a LOT that we have to get to and report on. I won’t list more because it is basically all over websites what panels are there and there is just a sheer enormity of what is out there. So just stay tuned in the next week and embedded below is a video preview and what we will try to accomplish as well as we head to Comic-con.
