There has been a ton of news lately regarding all of Marvel Studios upcoming pictures, but today we were reminded that the next film is coming soon! The second trailer for Thor: The Dark World has been released online during Youtube’s Geek Week, and it’s as interesting as the first. We’ve got some awesome moments from Natalie Portman and Chris Hemsworth, with a cool character reveal that – actually, let’s just watch the trailer:
Not too shabby. The punch heard ’round Asgard is certainly a memorable moment, and we can all agree that Chris Hemsworth has Thor on lockdown. There are glimpses of what are sure to be some great action sequences, which the first film had in between the heavy narrative moments, but with that buildup out of the way we are ready to see some serious Asgardian battles. Not to mention more Natalie Portman, who we constantly crush on here at GB.
And there’s a Kronan in the film! This is huge! For those that aren’t as familiar with Thor’s history, the Kronan are a group of aliens that attempted to take over the Earth but were stopped by Thor, way back in Journey into Mystery #83. Korg, a member of those failed conquerors, showed up again in the ‘Planet Hulk’ storyline, but we haven’t seen much of the Kronan elsewhere in the Marvel U. This Kronan looks to fare as well as his Earth conquering brethren.
And of course, there is Loki. Possibly the second biggest star in the MCU (RDJ still holds that title for now), Tom Hiddleston continues to make this role his in the sequel. With his time in the Avengers films seemingly over, and a new villain threatening Asgard, Loki’s recurring role as a reluctant ally keeps Hiddleston in the MCU, and we are just fine with that. This film brings us the inevitable team up of brothers, and the trailer seems to reinforce that dynamic between the two, and Loki’s standing with the other gods of Asgard.
Speaking of a new villain, where the hell is Christopher Eccleston? Yes, we’ve seen brief images of him in the trailers, with a bit of voice over work, but the trailers are surprisingly short on Malekith, seeming to focus more on Thor, Jane, and Loki. Obviously we need to see the main characters, but the new villain should be featured a bit more. With that being said, his scarce moments in the trailers are just building up the anticipation to see him on the big screen.
