It’s been quite the year for Arthur Curry, or Aquaman to those of you who aren’t familiar. From his speculated to now confirmed inclusion in the upcoming Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice, to his brief nod in the post credit scene of Justice League: War, the King of the Seven Seas has been notably visible in 2014.
Taking note of this, Warner Brothers animation has released the official trailer for their newest JL animated crossover movie, Justice League: Throne of Atlantis, and it looks like our favorite trident-wielding super-hero is anything but the pun from Super Friends.
Justice League: Throne of Atlantis will be loosely based of Geoff John’s New 52 story arc, chronicling the Justice League’s attempt to keep peace between both the surface world and the Atlantean army, and from the looks of it, things are certainly heating up, as much as they can underwater, that is.
If you’ve seen any of the DC animation flicks, you know there’s no holds barred on action and violence, which works well for the war scenes. On top of that, we get to see Black Manta and Orm the Ocean Master.
The Clone Wars’ Anakin Skywalker; Matt Lanter will provide the voice for Arthur Curry in the animated feature. He’s joined by the returning Justice League: War cast Jason O’Mara (Batman), Christopher Gorham (The Flash), and Sean Astin (Shazam). Now from there they made some changes – Rosario Dawson replaces Michele Monahan as Wonder Woman, and we love both of these actresses so we won’t complain too much. Then they switch in Sliders star Jerry O’Connell for Firefly star Alan Tudyk as the Man of Steel. Not wanting to be without any alums from the good ship Serenity, Nathan Fillion returns to the role of Hal Jordan, a part he has played before in Justice League: The Flashpoint Paradox, Justice League: Doom, Green Lantern: Emerald Knights, and on Robot Chicken. Now don’t get us wrong, we love Fillion and he deserves his spot back – but Weeds’ Justin Kirk and his portrayal of GL in Justice League: War was arguably the highpoint of the film. Being Human star Sam Witwer voices Aquaman’s devious brother Orm, and Beware the Batman‘s Katana – Sumalee Montano is his future bride Mera. Finally, Sean Patrick Thomas replaces Shemar Moore as Cyborg, and that rounds out the principles.
Justice League: Throne of Atlantis will debut on digital, DVD and Blu-ray in early 2015. Are you looking forward to Aquaman’s feature animated flick? Cause you bet Neptune’s trident, we are!
