New Star Wars The Force Awakens Character Posters Released

Disney and Lucasfilm continued their marketing barrage by releasing a series of character posters as we get closer and closer to the release of the Star Wars The Force Awakens. The posters feature characters new and old such as Rey, Finn, Kylo Ren, Han Solo and Princess Leia Organa. Take a look at the posters below.

Pretty cool right. Now there isn’t anything major that we can glean from these posters, certainly not with any certainty. What is interesting though is that the one eye theme that they all have in common gives us a great look at some of the hardware so to speak. It’s a great shot of Han’s blaster, classic. More intriguing though is the look we’re given here of Rey’s staff. Specifically, the piece that is basically directly over her right eye looks an awful lot like a piece of a lightsaber hilt that has been seemingly re-purposed. Specifically, it looks a lot like Darth Maul’s lightsaber from The Phantom Menace. Note the piece at either end of his lightsaber that actually emits the blade, this is the piece that looks a lot like that.

Now, it’s hard to say whether that was done on purpose or not or if that will hold any significant meaning, but it is something of interest to keep in mind.

Not surprisingly, Luke Skywalker is once again nowhere to be found. At this point, with J.J. Abrams and Disney keeping Luke up their sleeves it’s looking more and more that he won’t be a major factor in the story of The Force Awakens, at least not directly. That said, we do get a pretty good look at one of the Skywalker siblings with the Princess Leia Organa character poster. She looks like she’s in a war room of some kind which hearkens back to A New Hope as she was in the war room on Yavin IV during the battle.

Maybe in the next few weeks we’ll get some more character posters for some of the other new characters like Captain Phasma, General Hux and Poe Dameron that we have gotten decidedly less of a look at than Rey, Finn and Kylo Ren especially.
