A few weeks ago we got what we thought was the absolute final trailer for Star Wars The Force Awakens, and it did not disappoint as evidenced by the millions upon millions of views it already has. Well, yesterday Star Wars fans received an unexpected treat with an international trailer showing us more new footage, mostly of scenes we’ve gotten glimpses of in other trailers, as well as some new dialogue…and it’s great. Maybe better than the aforementioned trailer released a few weeks ago. Take a look.
Now there are some particularly interesting theories that have only gained more traction with this new trailer. First and foremost is that the probability of Rey being of Skywalker lineage. This has already been highly speculated on, and seems almost a certainty at this point as in the new trailer you can here Rey talking with BB-8 and she says “I know all about waiting…for my family.” That line of dialogue in conjunction with Kathleen Kennedy, the president of Lucasfilm, having previously said that the new trilogy is definitely a continuation of the Skywalker saga, all but confirms that Rey is a Skywalker. If you want to get real deep into the speculation, this Duracell advert shows a little girl dressed as Rey using the Force. Though it’s just a battery commercial it seems unlikely that they are completely fabricating Rey using the Force.
In the previous trailer we hear Kylo Ren say “I will finish what you started.” as he presumably is admiring Darth Vader’s melted and mangled mask. In this new trailer we get a tiny bit more to that line as he says, “I will fulfill our destiny…I will finish what you started.” That pesky word “our” makes me think that Kylo Ren may also be a descendant of Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader. I still stand by my theory that Kylo Ren and Rey are not siblings, but this enforces my belief that they may be cousins.
In the trailer we also see a couple of cool new shots. The first of the trailer shows Rey in the desert dwarfed by the downed Star Destroyer, presumable the one she we see her venture into in the first trailer. There’s also a gorgeous shot of some incoming TIE Fighters against what appears to be the setting sun of Jakku. There’s also another look at Chewie we haven’t seen, as it looks like he presses a detonator of some kind.
So Star Wars fans, what did you think of this new trailer? Did you love it as much as I did or do you not need/want anymore footage until the movie comes out? Comment below and let us know what you think!
