DC Films: Harley Quinn is Getting Her Own Spin-Off Movie

Great news! With the anticipation of the upcoming Suicide Squad movie and Harley Quinn’s major debut on the big screen, this fan favorite character has been given the green light for her own spin-off movie.

Margot Robbie will not only star in, but also produce the feature.

While this news alone is extremely exciting, the movie not only promises more of Harley Quinn, but an introduction of some other DC characters as well, female characters. The rumor is Batgirl and Birds of Prey, but no confirmation yet. There are many female characters in DC’s comic world to choose from, and it is refreshing to finally get some great exposure for some of them.

Sources say that Robbie was the impetus for the project, adding that when she got the part for the movie, she dove deep into the comics to learn as much as possible about the character. In the process, she fell for DC’s female characters. She brought on the writer to help develop the project and brought it to Warners, which snapped it up.

The Hollywood Reporter

We don’t know what writer Robbie brought in yet, but we’re glad it’s progressing already. Fans have been harping on Marvel for YEARS about a Black Widow solo movie, and while that might actually be happening now, it seems DC really has taken note of the growing demand for female-led movies. With the highly anticipated Wonder Woman on the way, and now Harley Quinn, DC and Warner Bros, really have the chance to take female superhero films to the next level.

The character of Harley Quinn is definitely is extremely captivating. Her story is equally as dark as it is entertaining. She has always been a capable counterpart for the Joker, yet she holds her own as a deviant and menacing character. I cannot wait to see her in Suicide Squad this summer and of course, in her own movie the years to follow.
