Racer And The Jailbird Trailer: Fast Cars And Sexy Stars Permeate New Crime Film

Michaël Roskam’s Racer And The Jailbird, the sexy crime saga starring Matthias Schoenaerts and Adèle Exarchopoulos, has been circling Festivals since late 2017 but now Mongrel Media has finally released a trailer for the new film.

As a member of a notorious Brussels gang renowned for their expertly-executed robberies, Gigi (Schoenaerts, The Danish Girl, Red Sparrow) tends to his front, a luxury automobile import-export business, in his downtime. Sparks fly when he meets glamorous and affluent race car driver Bibi (Exarchopoulos, Blue Is The Warmest Color), and despite their wildly different backgrounds, the pair fall instantly and tragically in love. While Gigi attempts to break away from his illicit history, two things stand in the couple’s way to a happy life together: an unrelenting mob hungry for another heist, and the cops that are closing in on them.

The trailer doesn’t really divulge any of the story but it does convey a sense of visual flourishes that makes Racer And The Jailbird a fast and sexy ride revolving around these two characters that feel literally possessed by emotion that is a one-way ticket for things to end very badly. It’s sure to be a gripping trip with a brooding atmosphere aided by cinematographer Nicolas Karakatsanis (whose work can also be seen in I, Tonya).

The film also marks a reunion with its director Michaël R. Roskam and star Matthias Schoenaerts who collaborated on the Oscar-nominated Bullhead as well as Roskam’s English-language debut, the Tom Hardy starrer The Drop.

Racer and the Jailbird

Racer And The Jailbird confirms an actor-director team worth checking out but its the chemistry between Schoenaerts and Exarchopoulos that is getting the film good notices.

Also starring Eric De Staercke, Jean-Benoît Ugeux, Nabil Missoumi, Thomas Coumans, and Nathalie Van Tongelen, Racer And The Jailbird bowed at TIFF and Venice Film Festivals last year under the title Le Fidèle in French, which translates as The Faithful.

In addition to the trailer, you can check out the film’s poster too.
