The realm of Thra is returning to screens for the first time in over 30 years as Netflix’s The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance unveiled its latest trailer during their Hall H panel at San Diego Comic-Con 2019.
Age of Resistance is set 1,000 years before the action in the original 1982 Jim Henson and Frank Oz muppet fantasy movie. The prequel will touch on a lot of familiar characters, including the wise and grumpy Aughra, a fluffy Fizzgig, Landstriders, Skeksis, and Mystics.
The first trailer for Netflix’s The Dark Crystal: Age Of Resistance was a stunning display of old-school Henson practical puppet work, giving us even more reason to be excited for The Dark Crystal prequel series beyond its astounding cast. It was during the Netflix panel at San Diego Comic-Con that attendees were treated to both a trailer for The Witcher and a brand new trailer for The Dark Crystal: Age Of Resistance.

The world of Thra is dying. The Crystal of Truth is at the heart of Thra, a source of untold power. But it is damaged, corrupted by the evil Skeksis, and a sickness spreads across the land. When three Gelfling uncover the horrific truth behind the power of the Skeksis, an adventure unfolds as the fires of rebellion are lit and an epic battle for the planet begins.
The new series sports a huge cast of well known actors including Taron Egerton, Anya Taylor-Joy, Nathalie Emmanuel, Caitriona Balfe, Helena Bonham Carter, Harris Dickinson, Natalie Dormer, Eddie Izzard, Theo James, Toby Jones, Shazad Latif, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Mark Strong, Alicia Vikander, Harvey Fierstein, Mark Hamill, Ralph Ineson, Jason Isaacs, Keegan-Michael Key, Ólafur Darri Ólafsson, Simon Pegg, Andy Samberg, Donna Kimball, Alice Dinnean, Louise Gold, Neil Sterenberg, and Victor Yerrid.
Speaking of Hamill, the famed Star Wars actor was surprised with the 2019 Comic-Con Icon Award, the confab’s highest honor. Marvel TV boss Jeph Loeb has received the honor in the past, as well as Joss Whedon. Hamill delivered a teary rendition of “The Buddi Song” from the latest movie Child’s Play, ending with a lyric directed to the crowd specifically: “I will never let you go/I am your Buddi until the end.” He continued to lament saying, “If it’s not for you fans, I wouldn’t be here,” exclaimed Hamill, “I was coming to these Cons long before I met George Lucas. Back then, we’d say, ‘Did you hear, I think there’s going to be 5,000 people this year? Ok, how many are women?’”
Netflix also dropped a SDCC exclusive poster:
The Dark Crystal: Age Of Resistance’s 10 episodes hit Netflix on August 30.
