Truth Seekers

[SDCC 2020] Truth Seekers: Simon Pegg and Nick Frost’s Ghost Hunting Series

The Amazon horror-comedy series is about a team of part-time paranormal investigators who team up to uncover and film ghost sightings across the UK, sharing their adventures on an online channel for all to see. The show reunites longtime collaborators Simon Pegg (Mission: Impossible – Fallout) and Nick Frost (Fighting with My Family), who have worked together on several terrific projects.

Frost plays Gus, one of two members of a ghost-hunting duo that uncover and film paranormal sighting across the U.K. who stakes out haunted churches, abandoned hospitals, and similar locations using homemade ghost-detecting gadgets. As the two uncover a conspiracy that could threaten the human race, their experiences grow more frequent and terrifying. But what about Simon Pegg? Well, details surrounding Pegg’s character Dave are currently unknown but the trailer might be able to shine a little light on that.

The show also stars Malcolm McDowell (A Clockwork Orange), Emma D’Arcy (Hanna), Samson Kayo (Dolittle), and Susan Wokoma (Year of the Rabbit). The basic premise sounds like a perfect mix of Ghost Hunters and something in the vein of Angie Tribeca or something from the minds of Taika Waititi and Jermaine Clement like What We Do In The Shadows. Truth Seekers also promises to deliver some genuine scares and creature designs behind all the delightful comedy.

Frost and Pegg co-wrote the project alongside British comedy vets Nat Saunders and James Serafinowicz (Sick Note), and it’s directed by Jim Field Smith, who recently made the unorthodox and lovely crime drama Criminal for Netflix. The duo of Frost and Pegg have been working together onscreen for over 20 years, beginning with the cult hit TV series Spaced (co-written by Pegg, directed by Edgar Wright), which ran for two seasons on Channel 4. Pegg, Frost, and Wright expanded their partnership on the big screen with the Cornetto Trilogy, consisting of 2004’s Shaun of the Dead, 2007’s Hot Fuzz and 2013’s The World’s End, as well as the non-Wright American feature Paul, which was co-written by Pegg and Frost.
