The ABCs of Death: 26 Directors, 26 Ways to Die, and a New Trailer…

Trailer Addict have now put up the red band trailer for the new movie The ABCs of Death. The movie synopsis is this.

[box_dark]Twenty-six directors. Twenty-six ways to die. The ABCs of Death is  perhaps the most ambitious anthology film ever conceived with productions  spanning fifteen countries and featuring segments directed by over two dozen of  the world’s leading talents in contemporary genre film. Inspired by children’s  educational books, the motion picture is comprised of twenty-six individual  chapters, each helmed by a different director assigned a letter of the alphabet.  The directors were then given free reign in choosing a word to create a story involving death.[/box_dark]

If this has got you excited about the movie, then watch the trailer on the link below.

This is not a new concept by any means, independent film companies do a lot of ABC related competitions to attract new film makers and films today sometimes can have up to two or three directors working together to create a movie. But never on this scale. Looking at the trailer it is really hard to say anything other than WOW. There is so much crammed into this movie I am hard pressed to know where to start. I saw some true splatter horror in there with a bit of Saw style self-mutilation, some really trippy things with people dressed in animal masks, a creepy old man and a woman with a bow, an claymation toilet monster, man vs beast (maybe this will carry on from where The Grey left off) and some kind of classic POV monster movie action.

There is a fair bit of gore crammed into this trailer which must have put a smile on you gore hounds faces. It certainly did with me! I do not want to bring the tone down here, but for all you flesh loves out there I did notice some nudity early on in this too, so you guys are catered for as well. Seems the anthology movie is making a comeback with this and V_H_S using the method, it reminds me of the mid 70’s when this type of movie ruled the cinema screens. With so many people on board there is bound to be some tripe stuck in here, but also the sequences I doubt will go on later than 10 minutes or so, other wise we are in for a long viewing experience. It will be interesting to see how this film comes together and if they decide to use a framing device like your classic Tales From the Crypt style stories. I know I will be waiting in line to watch this as you had me at 26 directors.

Ghostbusters 3: Rumors Still Floating About Bill Murray Being on Board…

Fanshare.com is reporting that Bill Murray is now back on board for Ghostbusters 3 after years of saying he was not. Harold Ramis spoke to SuperOfficialNews.com and said:
“It was kind of crazy. Just out of nowhere, I get a phone call from Bill at almost three in the morning… and he simply said, ‘Yeah, Ok, I’m in!'
Co-Writer Paul Horner has also said this
“Word through the grapevine was that Murray enjoyed reading our script that was passed along to him a few months ago. As for if he was going to be a part of it, well that was the million-dollar question. The writers, the cast, the fans… Everyone is truly excited for this to have finally all come together.”
ghostbusters 3 bill is back

So how does everyone feel about this? I just wish they would make their mind up to be honest. It would be amazing news that Bill might want to be back in the grays and strap on his photon pack one more time. I just don’t know if I actually believe this or not. How many times have we seen articles like this since the Ghostbuster 3 news was announced? Two? Three? 458? I have lost count. Call me a pessimist, but I will truly believe it when I actually see set shots.

Bill is a bit of a cheeky chap when it comes to committing to this and the great news is that he actually approves of the script so at least you would think he will be happy doing it. Now what us Ghostbuster‘s fans want to know is has this script got the magic form the first film? It has been a long time since Ghostbusters 2 came out and even longer since the first one. Can the team get it together, can they make us believe that busting makes us feel good. I certainly hope so, and this is a step in the right direction for sure.

For anyone wondering if  Bill can still fire up the pack, just rewatch the classic scene from Zombieland or at the 2010 Scream awards and watch Bill at work….

Review of E4′s Misfits: Episode 4.05

Some stuff went down in this episode let’s not waste time and dive in and get to the bottom of it then analyze, shall we?

Finn is on a quest to find out who his real father is, but when he does find out, he is in for a shock. Seems Finns real dad is dying of cancer and does not have long left to live. He also finds out he has a step sister called Grace who has been looking after their dad. While these three reconnect with each other, Jess once again meets Alex and they finally manage to go out on that drink. While out walking, Finn and Grace both see Alex and decide to follow him, which leads to a some what shady meeting with a strange man in an underground car park. Finn automatically assumes this means Alex is gay and goes out of his way to let Jess know, even confronting her in the local bars toilets to show her photographic evidence. When confronted with this, Alex takes Jess back to his flat and they make out but never actually have sex. Alex wants to take it slow. Finn has taken Grace away from the house for a bit, because her father wants to die. This is all because Grace has the power to heal and has been using it on her father to keep him alive. It does not, however, cure the cancer. It just stops him from dying from it and he has had enough. Finn and Grace both get back to the house in the early morning and Finn has to fight his own sister to stop her bringing their father back. She sees that she has to let him go and they both sit by his bed as he passes on. Alex looks into an envelope that he was given in the mentioned shady meeting. It has a photo of a man in it. He confronts the man and asks the man to show him his man parts.

The spotlight is on Finn in this episode. It is almost like they know he is the weakest character and the writing team are trying their hardiest to give him more depth. It is hard to say but I think it is working. He is always going to struggle to gain audience acceptance because Rudy is such a strong male lead. It is hard to battle against that. In this episode, he does have some nice moments but nothing that ever really blows you away. His nerd-like persona is at an impasse at the moment. Sometimes it is incredibly funny, while other times it grates on you. In this episode, I would say it is a 50/50 split. The introduction of his sister may work for him though, depending how she is used in future storylines. With an extra character in the mix and some one to care for, he may emerge as a more interesting character. Or if Grace is too overpowering as a character, he may get lost in the shuffle. At the moment, they balance each other out quite nicely.

Jess and Alex slowly start their relationship together and to be honest I have no interest whatsoever. It all seems a bit dull, even with the mystery behind Alex as a character. Alex has a big episode up next week which should hopefully explain a lot of things, but at the moment I am really not connecting with him at all. In fact, his interactions with Jess make her seem a bit dull as well. The twist at the end of the episode involving wanting to look at the man’s willy, well that could be anything. Myself and my fiancé have a bet on at the moment on what the problem is. I believe he has had his penis stolen in some way (that pesky storm again!), while she believes he has a kind of monster penis that attacks people. Watch this space to see if we were even remotely right! Greg is hilarious in this episode and it seems that the intense anger is just for comic relief as he has two stand out scenes here, one in the grief counseling and another talking about when his dad died. Rudy as always is amazing, but he has very little to do in this episode.

Because of the serious and intense nature of the last episode, this one is more restrained and personal. I guess that is what the episode was going for. It was hard to sympathize with Finn because his emotional range was not great in this episode. It was also hard to relate to the dying man and Grace, because we have only just been introduced to them and so have no real emotional attachment to any of them. It was a great episode for showing the pain cancer can cause, and having friends who have died from this I thought it would have affected me more than it did. Maybe I am just too heartless! Grace, however, was interesting and could be a wild card in this series. If she is used a lot in the series then it could make the show a little more extreme than it actually has been at the moment. Since she is a healer, anyone can get messed up and she could bring them back. We will have to see because we just may never see her again. As a character she is okay and that pretty much sums up this episode.

New Writing Team for ‘Flight of the Navigator’ Remake Is Probably a Good Thing

We’ve got news about the team chosen to write the remake of 80s classic Flight of the Navigator.  For those who not were not 80s children, Flight of the Navigator involves a young child who is abducted by aliens (the nice kind, not the probing kind) and returned eight years later to find his entire family has aged while he has not. It is a quintessential 80s film involving strong performances, a touching and interesting story line, and some great aliens.

All Superheroes Must Die: ‘Saw’ meets ‘The Running Man’…with Superheroes?

We have some information on an interesting new movie called All Superheroes Must Die. Before I go into too much detail of the story, here is the teaser trailer to give you an idea of what type of film director Jason Trost has made.

Looks pretty interesting does it not? From the get go it is action packed and has a very dark edge to it. Here is the full trailer which gives a lot more information away.

Now this looks like an incredibly exciting concept for a film. The low tech approach to the superheroes is probably to do with budgetary reasons, but I think in this case it will actually work in the films favor, because it gives it a Kick Ass feel to it. Young (possibly inexperienced) superheroes fighting against a tournament of death with what seems like no powers, has must see written all over it. For the superhero movie genre this is a new way of thinking. But there are parallels to other movies as well. The first that springs to mind is the Saw franchise. An older main villain who has set a series of life threatening traps involving civilians which look like they will go off unless the superhero does something they don’t really want to do. Yes this has all the makings of a Saw meets Kick Ass extravaganza. The photography has that very dark and grainy look we all associate with Saw movies as well.

all superheroes must die heroes

The more exciting thing I noticed however was how it felt a lot like The Running Man. There are at least two super villains in here, one pumped up fighter in a massive homemade wrestling ring and a psycho Uncle Sam with a flame thrower. I am sure this is just the tip of the iceberg for the super villains in this movie. The personalized settings for each villain and what looks like their own mode of killing (brute strength and fire) certainly harks back to this classic 80’s movie.

The inclusion of a sinister, yet calm villain played by James Remar (Dexter and The Warriors) looks to be a great casting choice. What I noticed about his character is he seems a lot like the assassin Arcade from Marvel Comics. In the comics he would torment the heroes by putting them into killer challenges, all involving them having to figure out a way of not getting murdered. They both even have a bow tie (though to be fair Arcades is a lot bigger).

All this in just a short 1 minute and 30 second trailer! This movie has a release date of January time, but it is unclear if or how long it will have a cinema release for. No matter what happens, on its release this is a film to look out for in the future.

Bad News for ‘Sherlock’ Fans – Season 3 Delayed

Are you sitting comfortably? Because Inside Tv has just released news on Sherlock: Series 3 that is going to cut right to the very core of you. Fans of the series were hoping that we would see Sherlock and Watson back in action by the summer of 2013, with a shooting schedule starting in January 2013. It seems now that the show will not start filming until March, meaning UK viewers will likely get it late 2013. PBS has said it is probably going to be more like 2014 for fans overseas.
