Trailer for Disney’s ‘Wreck-It Ralph’ – Starring John C. Reilly

Disney’s 52nd animated feature is set to be Wreck-It Ralph – and we have the first trailer here…

It’s been directed by Rich Moore – who has worked on The Simpsons and Futurama. It stars John C Reilly as Wreck-It Ralph, Jack  McBrayer (30 Rock) as Fix-It Felix Jr. and features Jane Lynch (Glee) and Sarah Silverman.

‘Wreck-It Ralph’ is the bad guy in the video game Fix-It Felix Jr, and for 30 years he’s been doing the same thing and he’s fed up of it – he wants to be the good guy. He abandons his game and sets off through the video arcade to prove he can be a hero. But in doing so he inadvertently releases a deadly threat that could unleash chaos across the entire video arcade.

This looks seriously cute. The nostalgia quotient is also quite high with cameos by old school game characters amongst the made up ones (how many could you spot?) Makes me yearn for the good old days (where did I put my Mega Drive?) Hopefully the story will live up to the trailer and not turn into a damp squib. It would be a real shame if such a great premise just fizzled out. At the moment this is a film I want to see…

The movie is currently set for a 3D release (obviously) this November.

‘Robocop’ Remake: Sam Jackson Joins Cast and Peter Weller Speaks!

The new Robocop Remake, which is tentatively scheduled for summer 2013, has recently announced some casting news in addition to what we’ve already told you (here and here). Sadly we still have no teasers or trailers. So let’s recap what we know about the film and talk about who’s playing what…

Gary Oldman

Oldman will be playing a new character named Norton, “the scientist who creates RoboCop and finds himself torn between the ideals of the machine trying to rediscover its humanity and the callous needs of a corporation.

We’re looking forward to seeing Gary in a significant role within the Robocop universe, and he will bring, I am sure, some appreciated class to the production (fingers crossed). Gary Oldman cultivated a reputation as a formidable character actor with his most memorable performances in films such as Leon, Sid and Nancy, The Fifth Element, and Bram Stoker’s Dracula.

What do you mean I don’t look like a scientist that would befriend a mechanical cop?

Samuel L Jackson

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Jackson is set to play a ‘charismatic media mogul’ in the forthcoming remake. This is by far the newest development, and leads us to believe that this reboot may indeed be star-studded. His role was described “A charismatic TV mogul and a powerful force in the Robocop world.” Which was the exact quote, which does leave it a bit vague, but we should be learning more very soon.

And that’s the news muthaf***er!

Joel Kinnaman

As for who is playing our favorite Tin-Can Cop, look no further than Joel Kinnaman off of AMC’s The Killing. He actually isn’t a bad choice for the role and I think picking lesser known stars really work when introducing a remake of Sci-Fi classics. New Detroit sure does rain less than Seattle….

Jose Padilha  (He’s the director)

Jose Padilha had these words to say in an interview with comingsoon.net on his upcoming remake of Robocop:

“‘RoboCop’ the first movie was fantastic,” he told us. “But even if there was no movie, the concept of ‘RoboCop’ is brilliant, first because it lends itself to a lot of social criticism, but also because it poses a question, ‘When do you lose you humanity?’ The way it does that is by replacing body parts with machine parts, and that’s very smart because guess what? It’s going to happen!”

“I have my take on it,” he continued, “And I can tell you this: In the first ‘RoboCop’ when Alex Murphy is shot, gunned down, then you see some hospitals and stuff and then you cut to him as RoboCop. My movie is between those two cuts. How do you make RoboCop? How do you slowly bring a guy to be a robot? How do you actually take humanity out of someone and how do you program a brain, so to speak, and how does that affect an individual?”

But what we really want to know is will there be scenes like this:

Finally the best thing I found on the upcoming remake was an interview response from the original Robocop (Peter Weller) at the Hero Complex Film Festival.

“I couldn’t give a shit,” he said. “I say you know what, god bless them, man. Go make another ‘Robocop.’ I got to tell you this: when I sat there in Dallas three weeks ago to watch this thing, I don’t know. I mean, can they throw a lot of CGI at it and so forth? The morality that’s endemic to the movie that you just watched, it’s hard to replicate.”

I think he has given his blessing, but it kind of sounds like he was being angry drunk. Either way I have never met the man, maybe that’s the way he speaks about everything.

New Broken Lizard Movie ‘The Babymakers’ – Both Official and Red Band Trailers

The first I heard of this film I was like okay it’s going to be some terrible cheesy comedy about a couple getting pregnant, but then I actually read the plot description and I admit it sounds great. Paul Schneider (Parks and Recreation) and Olivia Munn stars in The Babymakers, the latest movie from the Broken Lizard guys (Super Troopers, Beerfest); this film is about a Sperm Heist which is just a hysterical concept. I have the green and red band trailers so choose your preference wisely. I think that the title The Babymakers could be almost any rom-com which is actually pretty funny because it’s really not, but might lose them some target audience.

After trying everything to get his wife Audrey (Olivia Munn) pregnant, Tommy Macklin (Paul Schneider) realizes to his horror that he may be “shooting blanks.” Terrified that his marriage may fall apart, Tommy recruits his friends (and an Indian ex-mobster) to rob a sperm bank where he made a deposit years ago.  As with any half-baked scheme, everything can and does go wrong, testing the limits of Tommy and Audrey’s relationship.

I would definitely recommend watching the red band trailer for a good feel as to what the film will really be like.

First Official “Django Unchained” Trailer Looks to Be A Christmas Miracle

It’s that time again! It’s time for a new Quentin Tarantino flick (cue the applause)! After the 2009 masterpiece that we know as Inglourious Basterds, QT brings us Django Unchained, the story of a slave named Django (Jamie Foxx) who is freed by notorious bounty hunter, Dr. King Schultz (Christoph Waltz). With hopes of making Django his deputy, Schultz begins training the man, preparing him for the biggest fight of his life; to kill Calvin Candie (Leonardo DiCaprio), a ruthless plantation owner who is in possession of Django’s wife, Broomhilda (Kerry Washington).

Well, leave your skepticism and cynicism at the door, people, because Django Unchained is really the only thing I want for Christmas (well, maybe The Great Gatsby, too). This immensely entertaining, hilarious, action-packed, and, most of all, fun trailer has me wanting more….a lot more. Quentin Tarantino seems to be in full force here after the critically acclaimed Inglourious Basterds, which was nominated for eight Oscars (winning one for Best Supporting Actor to Christoph Waltz). It seems as if the Academy has finally recognized Tarantino not only as a filmmaker, but as a genre.

I also love the anti-type casting that Tarantino has done here. It’s been a while since DiCaprio has played an out-and-out villain, while this film marks the first time that Christoph Waltz plays the good guy (a compromised protagonist at best, but I’ll take what I can get). Jamie Foxx plays the title role, and after a couple names were picked up and dropped, I feel like Tarantino has made the right choice putting Foxx in the role.

All the Tarantino-esque factors are definitely in place. The odd plot, the beautifully staged brutality, the generational gap bridging (putting a funky groove in a Civil War-era spaghetti western? I think yes), the witty dialogue, and everything in between. There’s just no way around it, Django Unchained is going to be the real deal.
