It’s been a few months since we last checked in on AMC’s adaptation of Garth Ennis’ Preacher books…
The series premiere was screened last Monday at SXSW and was met with positive reactions from the crowd. Many are drawing parallels to last month’s mega hit Deadpool, due mostly to the violent nature of the storytelling, combined with strong comedic writing. In this case, those writers (and producers) are Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg. The duo, responsible for getting this project off the ground, have collaborated previously on several projects, including Superbad, Knocked Up, and the funniest movie of 2013 – This is the End.

The development of Garth Ennis’s Preacher into film has long seemed like a pipe dream for comic fans. Even after Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg announced their plans to create the series with the help of AMC, many remained skeptical, citing concerns over the series’ intensely graphic content and outlandish plot devices. But there’s no room left for doubt now; AMC released the first full trailer for Preacher during The Walking Dead, and it’s definitely worth watching.

We’ve been following the development of AMC’s Preacher for a few months now, ever since it was first reported that Seth Rogan and Evan Goldberg would be adapting the Vertigo comic series for AMC.

We have been waiting to discuss Preacher for a while now. Not a while as in the last few weeks or last few months. No, we have been waiting to talk about a live action adaptation of Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon’s Preacher for years. It was first being shopped around as a big-screen adaptation, which then escalated into a series of films.

As 2014 approaches, more and more trailers for the beginning of the year are dropping in hopes of engaging the audience early, and that’s the case with this surely R-rated comedy, Neighbors. Director Nicholas Stoller, whose most recent credit is the underrated The Five Year Engagement, but whom most know as the man behind Forgetting Sarah Marshall and the spin off, Get Him to the Greek, is at the helm of this Adults vs Frat Bros comedy.
The story goes as follows, a couple with a newborn baby are faced with troubles when a fraternity moves in next door. The story seems pretty simple, but it’s definitely prime for some raunchy comedy with its stellar cast. Seth Rogen (This is the End) and Rose Byrne (Bridesmaids) star as the older couple, while Zac Efron (High School Musical), Dave Franco (21 Jump Street), and Christopher Mintz-Plasse (Superbad) play the frat boys. Check out the hilarious, albeit short, red band trailer below:
As I said above, the set up seems prime for some R-rated comedy, and while we’ve seen the whole adults trying to fit in with the younger crowd before, this seems to be more of insane hijinks between the two groups than them trying to fit in with one another. I mean that ending bit with the airbag was freaking hilarious, and the Robert De Niro costume is a funny idea too. While it’s still a ways off, I’m sure come time next year people will be talking about this comedy. In addition to the cast listed above, some notable TV comedic talents star as well; Jake Johnson (New Girl), Carla Gallo (Undeclared), and Lisa Kudrow (Friends) each have a part in this 2014 flick.
Neighbors, formerly titled Townies, is due out May 9 next year.
The most recent winner of Vulture’s Sitcom Smackdown (Reader Bracket) is Arrested Development edging out The Simpsons to be named the greatest sitcom of the last 30 years…by popular vote. That’s still something right? Possibly fueled by it’s impending return, AD seems to be as popular as ever, and for
hits that reason we thought it was about time we got caught up on some of the latest news surrounding the shows resurrection. After all, in less than two months, we’ll be again enjoying probably one of the best comedies to grace television of all time. That’s right. I went there.

What could possibly be funnier then a movie staring Vince Vaughn, Ben Stiller, Jonah Hill, and Richard Ayoade? It’s probably one of the funnier group of comedic actors that Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg (writers along with Jared Stern) could come up with in Hollywood today. This, as one would think, had the potential to be a “dream team” to have in a comedy. Maybe it would have worked if it was just a comedy. However, the sci-fi element seems to be too much to balance with and it makes the poor decisions throughout the movie and results in The Watch being an epic fail of a sci-fi comedy.

We all knew it was going to happen, and now that it has, I couldn’t be more grateful. Pete and Debbie, the wonderfully bitter couple from 2007’s Knocked Up finally have their own movie. All I can say is it’s about damn time, Judd! This hilarious preview only solidifies my anticipation and gives me even more of a reason to be excited for the actual movie.
