Mission Impossible 4 – Starring Hawkeye and Simon Pegg!

Yesterday the new trailer for the latest installment of Mission: Impossible movie franchise hit the net. Now my old mad, an avid fan of the original series, will tell you that the movies were terrible. I would argue that only the John Woo installment (M:I-2) was terrible…

I would say instead that the first movie was pretty decent (Emiliooooo) and the 3rd movie was awesome. It is said 3rd movie – aka “Phillip Seymour Hoffman makes Tom Cruise his bitch” – that give me hope for the 4th. J.J. Abrams directed the 3rd, and is producing the 4th. For those who don’t know, Abrams is the man behind the shows Alias, Lost, and Fringe, as well as the director of movies like Super 8 and my favorite movie of 2009 – Star Trek.

Well this new one, titled Mission: Impossibe – Ghost Protocol, sees Ethan (Cruise) with a new team. In the 3rd movie he was working with Maggie QLive Free or Die Hard,  and The Tudors’  Jonathan Rhys Meyers. Not sure yet if Luther – Ving Rhames will show up again. Early reports said he would, but he’s not in the trailer, nor listed on IMDb. This time around though, it appears that Ethan has a whole new team. Maggie, Jonathan, and Ving have been replaced by Paula Patton (Deja ‘Vu), and returning from the last movie, lab tech Benji – played by Simon Pegg (Hot Fuzz, Shaun of the Dead, Star Trek)!!!

The movie also features Josh Holloway (Lost Community) and Hawkeye, both in some capacity that is not entirely clear from the trailer. Even Carmine Falcone shows up.

Check out the trailer below! Complete with some local flavor from Eminem doing the music…

Simon Pegg has a gun! This movie is gonna be sweet apparently. It’s currently slated for a December 16th release. What do you think? Yay or nay?

Emma Stone Might Star in a Movie That Could Get Made – ‘Pride and Prejudice and Zombies’ *Update*

It’s been a bumpy road for the screen adaptation of Seth Grahame-Smith’s novel, Pride and Prejudice and Zombies.  After a slew of fickle directors (including David O. Russell and Mike White) backing out of the project, as directors do, it was finally announced that Craig Gillespie (Fright Night) will be taking the helm.  Now, with the script reaching completion, we still have no definitive word on a female lead for the film.

Originally it was supposed to be Natalie Portman, which would have been awesome.  But she had to back out (some garbage about having a baby), and will be on the project as producer.  Then there were rumors of Mia Wasikowska, who recently played Jane Eyre in the film of the same name.  One period piece under her belt, why not another?  It doesn’t matter that I thought she was 14.  After that, it was all about Anne Hathaway.  That makes sense; because, really, what has Anne Hathaway not been in lately?  If a film lately has a 20-something female lead, I’m actually to the point where I’m surprised when she’s not in it.

It now appears that we have moved on to Emma Stone.  How is this any more definitive than any other rumors we’ve heard so far?  Well, it isn’t.  It would only be super awesome if it were true.  She doesn’t necessarily strike me as a shoe-in for a film in the time period, but her role in Zombieland gives her a pretty good edge on this particular film.  She’s beautiful, she’s talented, and she has experience with the undead.  What more could you really ask for?

*Updated*

According to both Bleeding Cool and Deadline Emma Stone is now officially a no go for Pride and Prejudice and Zombies on film. Not much on why she isn’t doing the film but the bottom line is that she said no. That’s the bummer man.

Evangeline Lilly and Dame Edna Join the Cast of ‘The Hobbit’

Peter Jackson announced yesterday on his Facebook page that The Hobbit cast will be joined by Evangeline Lilly (Lost) and Barry Humphries (Dame Edna Everage). Besides a couple of no-name people playing rinky-dink parts, I think that about rounds out the casting for this movie.  Phew!  What a whirlwind it has been.

It appears that Evangeline Lilly will be playing a “new character” named Tauriel (which apparently means ‘daughter of Mirkwood’).  Continue reading Evangeline Lilly and Dame Edna Join the Cast of ‘The Hobbit’

Percy Jackson Back For More…

Hey everyone! Percy Jackson is having another movie! This is so awesome because the Lightning Thief was so darn good! Hello? Anyone still listening? Probably not. I doubt that even Percy Jackson fans care about the latest on the movie adaptations of their beloved book series. Not to mention Fox studio’s intentions to rush the film out for a 2012 release, this movie has bad written all over it. Check out a little more info from IGN below:

Well, we’re getting a Percy Jackson sequel, like it or not. The Los Angeles Times reports that Fox 2000 has “exercised the option” on star Logan Lerman — in other words, he’s coming back for the sequel whether he likes it or not too. And director Thor Freudenthal (Diary of a Wimpy Kid) has been hired to replace the first film’s Chris Columbus.

Hopefully Logan Lerman isn’t going to half ass it because he has no choice in the matter but honestly, in the age of sequels not happening because of lackluster first round box office outings, I can’t figure out why this one is happening. The first film grossed 88 million domestically with a budget of 95 million. That spells flop to me. But worldwide it had a gross of 226 million bucks so maybe they’re depending on the foreign market. To me the film was just “ok”, it didn’t really move or wow me in any way and it definitely was not the next Harry Potter. My 54 year old dad actually liked it better than me, which I still can’t figure out to this day. He simply states “that he has better movie taste than Doc Kronner and myself.” I hate to break it to him on this father’s day weekend that he is mistaken, but he probably won’t care since there is another Percy Jackson movie coming out.

The movie will not only follow the second book of the Jackson series, ‘Sea of Monsters’, but it is said to borrow elements from the other books as well. Purists of the series better prepare their diapers for this one.
