Clone Wars: Season 5 – Maul, Savage, Mandalorians & Jetpacks!

There were a couple of clips from season 5 of the Clone Wars released around Comic Con time, and there were some good-uns. After watching the season 5 trailer it would appear that Maul and Savage Oppress will be crossing paths with the Mandalorians at one point. My thoughts from the trailer were that they were obviously going to team up with their mutual disdain and need for vengeance against both Count Dooku and Obi-Wan Kenobi. After watching the clip below I’m not really sure what is behind all of the Mandalorian mayhem on display…. But I like it. Check out the clip below:

Seriously, what the hell is going on? Is that Sidious choking out two Death Watch Mandalorians? And why is Obi-Wan wearing Mando armor and working with Bo-Katan who was all about killing Jedi last season when she crossed paths with Ahsoka?  Bo-Katan whom is voiced by the lovely Katee Sackhoff I might add. And are all of the Mandolorians fighting one another Death Watch? And why are they fighting?! AHHHHHH… head exploding! Apparently we’ll be waiting until September to find out. I also loved the incorporation of John William’s music into the scenes, too bad it won’t stay in there.

The next clip is a little less thrilling, but is still quite cool. It shows Maul and Savage infiltrating some sort of space station possibly controlled (or patrolled) by security droids. Check it out below:

Yes it was short and clearly beneath the Maul bros. to be cutting up simple droids but it’s definitely good to see such a deadly pair work together so seamlessly… now to see them fight some Jedi, that would be great. Overall I can’t wait for this upcoming fifth season of the Clone Wars. It’s a show that is constantly outdoing itself each season in terms of animation, story and scope and I would love if it was on for the next five years. Check out the season 5 trailer below if you haven’t already and stay tuned for further upcoming Clone Wars info and news!

HBO’s True Blood Episode 5.08 – “Somebody That I Used to Know”

After the brilliance of last week, I was completely underwhelmed by what I was served during this most recent of episodes.

Sookie’s faerie powers are getting ridiculous.  Now apparently she can read the thoughts of dead people?  It’s too much.  It’s too weird.  And who is this creepy new vampire that killed her parents?  The Scarecrow from Batman Begins?  Seems like he’d be pretty cool to have on the show as more than just a memory, so let’s hope we meet him for real.

Mockingbird Lane: The Munsters’ Family Portrait

A while back you may remember that we reported on the return of The Munsters to tv. If you were lucky enough to be at the Q & A session at Comic-Con you will have seen the 4 minute teaser for the new pilot. For all of us that weren’t there here is the first image of the whole Munster clan (also from Comic-Con and via io9). As you can see they are surprisingly…well, ‘normal’.

Mockingbird Lane Cast

I must admit to being slightly let down by it. I was hoping for them to look a little more monstery. Jerry O’Connell looks less Herman Munster and more Jerry O’Connell.

However, Bryan Fuller (Pushing Daises creator and producer/writer of Mockingbird Lane) told The Hollywood Reporter that they were still very much monsters:

“The Munsters actually do what monsters do: they eat people and they have to live with the ramifications of being monstrous. It’s like grounding it in a reality because the half-hour was a sitcom, we saw the monsters: they were monsters on the outside and weren’t monsters on the inside. For us, they’re monsters outside and inside, and we get to double our story.”

NBC has ordered additional scripts and a decision on whether to order a full series should come soon. If they do we can expect to see other Universal monsters – including The Phantom of The Opera, The Wolfman and The Creature From The Black Lagoon.

I’m still not sure about all this. It feels like an unnecessary remake. They could just have easily renamed the family and not even pretend that they were remaking The Munsters. I’m still waiting to be convinced.

NBC Takes Gold with Fake Fall Lineup

Last year, NBC spent $4.38 BILLION to obtain the rights to broadcast the Olympic games through 2020. Their ratings for the 2012 London games have been stellar, despite outrage from critics professional and amateur alike. By the time they air, sports broadcast during NBC’s evening segments have been completed for nearly twelve hours. That leaves plenty of opportunity for viewers to know the results beforehand.

Pics from Season 4 Arrested Development Set! I Just Blue Myself…

The title should be self explanatory. Straight from Jason Bateman’s Twitter via the Hollywood Reporter are pics of Michael Cera arriving on the Arrested Development set to do rehearsals and/or cause whatever mischief it seems. The sets are obviously being worked on but it should be important to note that in one of the pictures, it seems to represent the good old model home with the caption ‘My son, arriving yesterday’.

I will say that it definitely shows how long we have been without the show (since 2006) and Cera is definitely not the same George Michael we got used to during those awesome spectacular three seasons the show was on. Granted, he will still be the awkward kid who pines for his cousin but he is also Scott Pilgrim and a bunch of other whiny hipster characters too (some of which I don’t mind honestly). Obviously everyone went on to do their own thing but the people that really took off were Bateman and Cera so it’s honestly sweet as hell to see them back working on the show that gave them their starts. Hell, I still remember an interview they both had together for Juno, despite never having scenes together, and they picked up on their comedy rhythm together like no time had past.

Now that I got that out of the way, onward to the second photo…

This one is captioned, “A grandson, looking for his Gangee.” Which is awesome because we can definitely say this is Lucille’s place and…damn, is it 2013 yet? I want my episodes now. Speaking of, the original plan was to do an anthology for the 4th season where each character would get their own episode but creator Mitchell Hurwitz decided to go the traditional route of putting them all together in episodes and making stuff happen. Which I am all for because, if I haven’t geeked out enough already, it’s freakin’ Arrested Development. It is easily the funniest show in my opinion to come out in the last decade. It needs to come back so I can justify my Netflix subscription (although seriously, when streaming the first episode, their servers better be able to handle it because when it gets released…havoc will ensue trying to get to a television in my opinion) and then get onward with the AD movie.

Seriously though, I’m super stoked for this. Huzzah! Seriously. Genius.
