All fans of Sith Lords rejoice! After so many rumors, cancellations, and delays – we are finally going to get the oft talked about Darth Plagueis novel! Darth Plagueis is, as you may or may not know, the Master of future Sith Lord and Emperor – Darth Sidious. Or as he is known to the gullible galaxy at large: Emperor Palpatine. Here is the description below from Starwars.com:
Revenge of the Sith, while attending a ballet, Supreme Chancellor Palpatine casually mentions to Anakin Skywalker the tale of Darth Plagueis. Plagueis was a Sith Lord so wise and powerful, that he could even manipulate the Force to create life or stop death in others. Ironically, such a powerful being could not prevent his own death, for in the way of the Sith, Plagueis was killed in his sleep by his apprentice.
Palpatine told the captivating tale to start certain wheels spinning in the Chosen One’s head. Ever since then, Star Wars fans have been clamoring to know more about Plagueis. Author James Luceno delves into the secrets of the dark side to find out more about Darth Sidious and Darth Plagueis in a new hardcover novel, Star Wars: Darth Plagueis, due out this winter.
And by ‘due out this winter’ they mean December 27th 2011. Also mentioned above is the author, James Luceno. Mr. Luceno is no stranger to Star Wars, having written seven novels from different eras of the Star Wars Expanded Universe. He’s also no stranger to writing books where Sith Lords are the main characters, since he penned the excellent Dark Lord: The Rise of Darth Varder, which had quite a bit of focus about Vader easing into his role as Sidious’s Sith apprentice to bide his time so he could eventually overthrow his master.
It will be enlightening to see Palpatine in training to get an idea of what his personality was like as a youth, and even better to get some insight into what type of Sith Lord Darth Plagueis was. To take on such an ambitious little slug as Palpatine, the guy had to have been ruthless as hell.
So, us hardcore fans are wondering what else might be revealed in this novel. Was Plagueis playing the double identity role as Palpatine did? Was he some high ranking public official, or did he keep to the shadows much like Darth Bane did when he created the ‘Rule of Two‘? Also the big question many theorists pose; Was Plaugueis experimenting with using midi-chlorians to create life on Tatooine, which resulted in creating Anakin Skywalker?
I suppose by the end of the year we’ll know! And make sure to check out the next novel based on a Sith Lord to be released pictured below: ‘Batman: The Shark Knight Rises!’
