Statham Possibly in Transformers 4?

So what if Shia LeBeouf doesn’t come back for Transformers 4, why would you need him when you have the Stath? Check out the blurb below from IGN:

Latino Review points out that ShowbizSpy claims Statham is in the running to play the lead in the next film. “It’s clear the franchise still has huge potential but with a new leading man capable of taking Transformers in a new, darker direction,” according to the site. “Jason could be just the man to do that and his relationship with Rosie would be an added bonus in marketing the movie.”

Of course it’s all just rumor now, but imagine how hardcore of a movie Transformers 4 would be with robots not only beating the shit out of each other, but Jason Statham navigating the battlefield in Bumblebee and blasting the circuits out of Decepticons too! It’s too awesome to comprehend! And he’s no stranger to the whole weaponized car deal. (DEATH RACE?)

Of course there’s also already talk about whether or not the fourth robo-extravaganza would be a reboot over at IGN:

“Not so fast,” according to producer Don Murphy.

On the producer’s message board, Murphy wrote: “What happens next? Certainly not a reboot. We haven’t lost the Transformers. They didn’t grow up or become expensive like Tobey Maguire. I don’t know what happens next. I’m pretty sure there will be a second trilogy…”

Interestingly, Transformers director Michael Bay recently told IGN that he thinks a future installment would have to go the way of the reboot.

I think Michael Bay is just straight up retarded here. Or maybe he’s just afraid someone else will pick up where he left off and the franchise continues to be a money maker and it makes him feel less special. There’s still plenty of directions to go with Transformers 4 leading off from Dark of the Moon. Sure Megatron and the other main Decepticons are dead as Dillinger, but as many hardcore Transformers fans are aware, Galvatron is created from the ruined body of Megatron. (Just as Cyclonus and Galvatron’s other minions are made from other fallen Decepticons.) And Galvatron is brought back by none other than Unicron, the biggest of the Transformes; think of a Death Star transforming into a giant robot with a sweet Sentinel Prime beard.

And there are still plenty of Autobots to bring into the mix with Iron Hide dead, and if they decide to off Optimus once and for all. They would just have to bring in Kup, Hot Rod, Blur and Springer, all of whom would make for great incarnations on the silver screen. See? No need for a reboot at all. Just make Autobot city on Earth and go from there!

Springer is the shiznite!

Sure it’s all way too early to tell what they’ll do at this point and the Statham thing is just one huge rumor, but let’s face it; Pirates of the Carribbean 4: On Stranger Tides isn’t even out of theaters yet and Depp is already about to sign on for the next one. In Hollywood, I believe there is no such thing as early, especially when it comes to milking a franchise for everything it’s worth. What say you all? Any ideas of where the next Transformers movie can go? Or are you sick and tired of robots in disguise?

2011 NBA Draft – Winners and Losers: 21-30

It’s been almost two weeks since the 2011 NBA Draft, which was nothing to get too excited about.  There was not going to be a Magic, Ewing, Shaq, Lebron, D-Rose, or a Blake Griffin coming out of this draft to make an immediate impact.  Basically, there was no jackpot, franchise turn-around type player.  Instead it was cast of potentials. There are four players that have the potential to be future all-stars in my opinion:  Two freshmen point guards, a tweener, and a European big.  Everyone knows drafts are meant to be dissected once it’s over and done with.

Who were the winners and losers of this draft?  Well, let’s take a look at who were the head-scratchers down to the winner of this draft.

Cartoon Network Brings Back ‘Thundercats’ – HOOOOO!!

On Friday July 29th at 8pm the Thundercats roars back onto TV on the Cartoon Network, with an hour long series premiere. It then will regularly air on Fridays at 8:30 pm on August 5th. So start setting your DVR’s.

Most will remember Thundercats from the 1985 cartoon series which ran through 1990 with four seasons and a TV movie. The series centered around a group of cat like humanoids that were fleeing their doomed planet of Thundera, and crash land on middle Earth. There they battle mutants and the evil forces of Mumm-Rah, along with other challenges. The series usually had some kind of sappy moral or lesson to learn which obviously made childhoods everywhere better off, and made TV properly raise us instead of our parents.

The show primarily followed the main character of Lion-O, the boy king whose body aged in a sleep chamber, but his mind didn’t. Which is an obvious problem with monarchies, and clearly an over used plot device. So Lion-O has to learn how to be a king and use his kick ass sword of omens to fight off all these lame ass enemies and teach kids some important life lesson, all while holding it down 80’s style.

It’s gonna be pretty hard to top that, but Cartoon Network looks like its gonna give it a great re-boot. They have Sam Register (Young Justice, Batman the Brave and the Bold, and most of the DC cartoon movies that have been released recently) and Ethan Spaulding (The Simpsons, Avatar: The Last Airbender) producing. As an added bonus Will Friedle the older brother from Boy Meets World is voicing the character of Lion-O this time around.

The animation looks better and there seems to much more an actual plot and character development. It appears that the series is gonna start on Thundera and give us a look into the Thundercats home world and culture, not just start with a space fight and space ships crashing.

There was a 10 minute video of the series that was leaked online that has since been taken down but gave me just the taste I was looking forward to get me excited. More updates to come as more information becomes available and the series airs.

Starz & the BBC Team Up For “Torchwood: Miracle Day”

This week (in the U.S., next week in the U.K.) sees the return of Torchwood and of Captain Jack – Harkness, not Sparrow – for a fourth series. Now I’ve been told I need to explain what Torchwood is to our mostly North American readership, so here goes with a really brief summary…

Torchwood is a spin-off series from Doctor Who, about a top-secret British organization called the ‘Torchwood Institute’ – which was set up on the instructions of Queen Victoria after she had a run in with an alien werewolf and the 10th Doctor. It’s lead now by the aforementioned Captain Jack (John Barrowman). He is a handsome, charming, heroic, bi-sexual, immortal, ex-time agent. Was that enough adjectives?

The other main character is Gwen Cooper (Eve Myles). She is an ex-cop with the South Wales Police, and is currently the only other member of Torchwood. They are also joined by her husband Rhys (Kai Owen).

Torchwood is aimed much more at an adult audience, unlike Doctor Who which is more family orientated. The Starz (Spartacus, Camelot) channel is co-producing the new series with the BBC. It’s set mainly in America, and was filmed in Los Angeles – except for two weeks in Wales. The stops have been pulled out, with the budget of each of the 10 episodes being, apparently, over £1 million (roughly 1.6 million in US currency).

The general synopsis of the new series – Miracle Day – is as follows.

One day, all across the world, nobody dies. And the next day, and the next day, and the next day… People age, people get sick, people get hurt, but nobody dies. Births continue though. The population sky rockets overnight. Experts predict that in four months the human race will cease to be viable. CIA agent Rex Matheson (Mekhi Phifer) investigates and discovers a global conspiracy that leads him to a secret British institution. It also features Alexa Havins as Esther Drummond and Bill Pullman as convicted murderer Oswald Danes.

Here’s the trailer:

The series starts on Starz in the U.S. on Friday the 8th of July, and on BBC One in the U.K. on Thursday the 14th of July.

Batman: Arkham City – 12 Minutes of Gameplay, Robin Confirmed!

It seems like I can’t get any more excited for the upcoming sequel to my favorite game of last year. Batman: Arkham City promises to bring us everything we loved about Batman: Arkham Asylum, but bigger, better, and more badass. But this is something I’ve talked about a few times before. Like when they told us that Catwoman would be a playable character with a key role in the campaign mode.

Then there was the rumor that Robin would be a pre-order exclusive (with a probable downloadable version later on) to be used in some challenge maps. Well that rumor has been confirmed, and here’s what the Arkham City version looks like, courtesy of Gotham Knights Online:
