Movie News Roundup! New Godzilla Revealed, Transformers 4 Poster Arrives & New Release Date for Ant-Man Movie!

There has been a ton of movie news recently, so much so in fact that we at Grizzly Bomb decided to combine some of the news for an easy to digest package. First off is the news that finally an image of the new Godzilla has come online. Due to be released in 2014, we have had quite a few teaser shots of him (the most notable showing his scaly tail), but now we get to see his actual head (originally from Yahoo Movies).

Now this reviewer is not entirely up to speed on the Godzilla mythology having (to my shame) seen only a few brief clips of the movie franchise itself. But from what I have seen from this poster is that the design is very much akin to the older, original Godzilla than the more heroic faced hero he later became and it certainly does not look anything like the first American remake of the creature. There is also a great amount of detail that has gone into the facial design and to be quite honest it is looking pretty darn awesome. Keep checking with Grizzly Bomb for more information as it arrives.

So from a film this reviewer knew nothing about to a film that quite a few people will wish they knew nothing about, the new Transformers movie Transformers 4: Age of Extinction. Now the franchise does have its fans but for a lot of people, Michael Bay’s explode-a-rama of guns, robots and CGI has ruined the fun of Transformers and has become a parody of the action genre. That being said, this film does appear to be trying to sort the previous films problems out and take the movie in a new direction with Mark Walhberg starring and Bay teasing the inclusion of the fan favorites the Dinobots (check out the link here). The new poster release seems to be doing the same thing with a rather restrained image (originally from Inside Movies).

There is plenty we can take from this poster. For a start who is facing extinction? The sand covered logo is clearly a warped Decepticon badge so are they the ones who are going to be deleted or are they the ones doing the exterminating? With the possible inclusion of the Dinobots, are they the ones in charge of the coming devastation? If so that would be great to hear Grimlock shouting when he is about to crush a Decepticon. Or could it even be the human race that is on the chopping block? Hopefully more will be revealed before its release on June 27th, 2014.

Finally, we nip over to Marvel who have tons of new work in the pipeline but for now, its focus has gone back to a film that keeps popping its little head up every few months, Edgar Wright’s Ant-Man movie (thanks to Hollywood Reporter for the information). Looks like Marvel may be worried about the competition from the recently released news that Sam Mendes and Daniel Craig’s new Bond film because they have changed their original release date of November 6th 2015 (the same month the new Bond film is coming out) to July 31st 2015 (only one release for that month and it’s Peregrine’s Home for Peculiars). It does mean superhero fans will not have long to wait for their hero fix and will be jumping head first into Phase 3. With Avengers: Age of Ultron scheduled for May 1st 2015 and the untitled DC team up of Batman and Superman coming July 17th 2015, it seems the summer of 2015 will be chocker block full of heroes.

Transformers 4: Michael Bay Returns in 2014

So a few months back I wrote a Transformers article about Michael Bay possibly coming back for one or two sequels with the Robots in Disguise, even though he had already said that the third one would be the last of them. Days later Michael Bay came out and dispelled any rumors about himself returning to any more Transformers flicks. I didn’t even bother to update the article or write a follow up one because I was so sure this particular article would be coming, just not so soon. Check out the snippet below from IGN:

Paramount Pictures has now issued a press release officially announcing Michael Bay’s involvement:

Paramount Pictures announced today that director Michael Bay has signed a two-picture deal with the studio, which will commence this spring with the filming of Pain and Gain, and will be followed by the next installment in the hit Transformers franchise.

Following Pain and Gain, Bay will bring audiences a new take on the Transformers franchise as he begins production on the fourth installment in the hit series of movies based on the best-selling Hasbro toyline. The third, and most recent installment of the franchise, Transformers: Dark of the Moon, Is the fourth highest global grossing film of all time with 1.124 billion dollars of worldwide box office success. Directed by Bay, the movie will re-unite the filmmaking team from the hit franchise, including producers Lorenzo di Bonaventura, Don Murphy, Tom DeSanto and Ian Bryce; and executive producers Steven Spielberg, Bay, Brian Goldner and Mark Vahradian. Paramount Pictures will release the film on June 29th, 2014.

So there you have it. That explosion-whore Michael Bay will be returning to explode even more, all over giant robots once again. Man, that sounded so dirty. But seriously, like Bay was going to pass up on this billion dollar franchise that is such a sure thing for him. This guy’s purpose in life is to make movies like this and the sooner he realizes that, then the better off we will all be. Don’t get me wrong, I hope that this Pain and Gain, Wahlberg-Bay-The Rock collaboration is at least a worthwhile movie to go see. I just don’t have very high hopes for anything besides napalm and half naked chicks from Michael Bay.

So until 2014 let the speculation begin about which actors shall return, which transformers shall kick ass and what form the story shall take! I for one am totally excited for another Transformers movie to come out. I enjoyed the third installment because it went back to it’s roots of non-stop action and a story that you could set your mind on cruise control for, unlike Revenge of the Fallen where you had to set your brain off completely to enjoy the toilet humor and bogus ass story. What’s everyone else thinking? Has the transformer franchise run its course or is everyone psyched for a new one? Comment below!

Statham Possibly in Transformers 4?

So what if Shia LeBeouf doesn’t come back for Transformers 4, why would you need him when you have the Stath? Check out the blurb below from IGN:

Latino Review points out that ShowbizSpy claims Statham is in the running to play the lead in the next film. “It’s clear the franchise still has huge potential but with a new leading man capable of taking Transformers in a new, darker direction,” according to the site. “Jason could be just the man to do that and his relationship with Rosie would be an added bonus in marketing the movie.”

Of course it’s all just rumor now, but imagine how hardcore of a movie Transformers 4 would be with robots not only beating the shit out of each other, but Jason Statham navigating the battlefield in Bumblebee and blasting the circuits out of Decepticons too! It’s too awesome to comprehend! And he’s no stranger to the whole weaponized car deal. (DEATH RACE?)

Of course there’s also already talk about whether or not the fourth robo-extravaganza would be a reboot over at IGN:

“Not so fast,” according to producer Don Murphy.

On the producer’s message board, Murphy wrote: “What happens next? Certainly not a reboot. We haven’t lost the Transformers. They didn’t grow up or become expensive like Tobey Maguire. I don’t know what happens next. I’m pretty sure there will be a second trilogy…”

Interestingly, Transformers director Michael Bay recently told IGN that he thinks a future installment would have to go the way of the reboot.

I think Michael Bay is just straight up retarded here. Or maybe he’s just afraid someone else will pick up where he left off and the franchise continues to be a money maker and it makes him feel less special. There’s still plenty of directions to go with Transformers 4 leading off from Dark of the Moon. Sure Megatron and the other main Decepticons are dead as Dillinger, but as many hardcore Transformers fans are aware, Galvatron is created from the ruined body of Megatron. (Just as Cyclonus and Galvatron’s other minions are made from other fallen Decepticons.) And Galvatron is brought back by none other than Unicron, the biggest of the Transformes; think of a Death Star transforming into a giant robot with a sweet Sentinel Prime beard.

And there are still plenty of Autobots to bring into the mix with Iron Hide dead, and if they decide to off Optimus once and for all. They would just have to bring in Kup, Hot Rod, Blur and Springer, all of whom would make for great incarnations on the silver screen. See? No need for a reboot at all. Just make Autobot city on Earth and go from there!

Springer is the shiznite!

Sure it’s all way too early to tell what they’ll do at this point and the Statham thing is just one huge rumor, but let’s face it; Pirates of the Carribbean 4: On Stranger Tides isn’t even out of theaters yet and Depp is already about to sign on for the next one. In Hollywood, I believe there is no such thing as early, especially when it comes to milking a franchise for everything it’s worth. What say you all? Any ideas of where the next Transformers movie can go? Or are you sick and tired of robots in disguise?
