Grizzly Bomb loves to showcase up and coming creators and in this new section called The World of the Homemade we highlight some of the pioneers of the low-budget and hand-crafted world of entertainment and collectables. This week focuses on creator and artist Gabe LaPeer. In 2011 Gabe created a small company called Homemade Horror and since then the project has expanded to an online store on Storenvy and a Facebook Page with exclusive updates and give-away prizes.
LaPeer is a horror fan who has used his unique style of modelling to create some incredible pieces. The great thing about Gabe’s work is his love of both low budget and main stream horror films. As a result, you get the doomed kids from Halloween 3 standing right next to Charles Band creations from Troll and Ghoulies. The figures are incredibly detailed for resin figures and the paint work is superb. They remind me of the resin kits I’d see as a child; kits I never dared purchase because my painting skills weren’t up to scratch. His latest work has some of the more popular horror characters frozen in carbonite, a must-have for the Star Wars horror fan out there. Below is a small selection of some of my personal favorites from his varied collection of work:
Keep an eye out for more of Gabe’s work, because he is always adding new stock to his already impressive resume and most of them are limited edition. As it is the holiday season, here’s his latest piece of work, a collaboration with John Squires from Freddy in Space.
