2016 Star Wars Spinoff Film Rumored to Focus on Bounty Hunters

2014 is nearing a close with a flood of news and rumors about the future of the Star Wars franchise. Mace Windu is rumored to be getting his own spinoff film, the teaser trailer for Star Wars: The Force Awakens dropped earlier today, and a new dose of Star Wars spinoff film news has hit the web.

Star Wars A Force Awakens

This newest rumor pertains to the reported 2016 Star Wars film screenplay being put together by Gareth Edwards and Gary Whitta. Slashfilm initially stated that this spinoff movie will take place during A New Hope and follow a group of bounty hunters. Their ultimate goal? Steal the development plans for the most devastating weapon in that galaxy far, far away – the dreaded Death Star. Lucasfilm nor Disney has confirmed or denied the validity of this rumor, however.

We dug up the opening text crawl from A New Hope and now we think this rumored spinoff film could totally take place:

It is a period of civil war. Rebel spaceships, striking from a hidden base, have won their first victory against the evil Galactic Empire. During the battle, Rebel spies managed to steal secret plans to the Empire’s ultimate weapon, the DEATH STAR, an armored space station with enough power to destroy an entire planet.

Boba Fett

We’ve heard several rumors about acclaimed bounty hunter Boba Fett getting his own film, too. That leads us to believe he’ll likely be the lead in of the bounty hunters film. Some more info about this spinoff film makes us scratch our Rebel helmets a bit, though – the Millennium Falcon is rumored to be included, and the main character of this movie will make his/her grand debut in A Force Awakens. In timeline terms, this makes the involvement of Han Solo and the upcoming Star Wars episode confusing to comprehend.

Take all of this info with a grain of salt, folks. But we’re all hoping that this film becomes a reality. Star Wars meets the Suicide Squad Ocean’s Eleven sounds incredible!
