True Detective Season 2 Gets A Tense New Trailer

HBO just released its second teaser for True Detective season 2. It’s a quick, but incredibly moody and tense look at the show’s all new setting and characters, and we finally get to hear some spoken dialog. In True Detective Season 2 a bizarre murder brings together three law-enforcement officers and a career criminal, each of whom must navigate a web of conspiracy and betrayal in the scorched landscapes of California.

Check out the new trailer below:

Where the first teaser relied more on somber pacing and a haunting song, this trailer ups the intensity and gives us an idea as to the character’s back-stories and revelations that should prove to be fascinating come the full season’s run. McAdams’ character seems to be the only one who cares about a missing girl, while Taylor Kitsch delves into his confused mind as a highway patrol officer. We also see Ray Velcoro’s (Colin Farrell) bloodied knuckles and pessimistic outlook and Vince Vaughn’s bad guy Frank Semyon kicking off the first line of the trailer: “Sometimes your worst self is your best self.” Tie that all up with McAdams handling a knife like a boss and consider us intrigued.

HBO also released a series of new photos showcasing each of the new characters, we have those below along with the previously released posters…

Though it’s not a lot to go on, given the overall strength of the first season, expectations are still high for Nic Pizzolatto’s follow-up. It was revealed recently that this season of True Detective will focus more on character and crime elements than the non-linear first season did. Season one also tended to incorporate elements of supernatural horror and the occult so don’t be looking for any King In Yellow references for season 2.

The second season of HBO’s acclaimed anthology series, created and written by Nic Pizzolatto, premieres June 21.
