John Wick 2: Director Announced, Shooting Begins This Fall

One of the surprise hits of 2014 was without a doubt John Wick, starring Keanu Reeves. The action film saw a return to from for Reeves, who hasn’t wowed audiences with a heavy action film since The Matrix, which believe it or not was 16 years ago.

Then along came John Wick, which was an emotionally gripping story complete with amazingly choreographed action scenes that dropped quite a few jaws when it first released. Directed by Chad Stahelski and David Leitch, John Wick follows Reeves as the titular character, a former hitman, takes his vengeance out on a crime family that murdered his puppy, a gift from his recently deceased wife. Rumors of a sequel followed shortly after the film’s release, and we have some news regarding John Wick 2 after the jump!

It was announced that John Wick 2 will begin shooting in the fall, with Chad Stahelski returning to direct the film alone. David Leitch will remain a part of the film as executive producer. There is very little information from the production yet, but there is no doubt that we are excited to see John Wick in action again.

John Wick

With the first film we were introduced to such an interesting  world with a huge history we only learn about in pieces, so returning to John Wick’s particular environment would obviously make for an interesting picture. Stahelski and Leitch haven’t offered too much up about the sequel, but the last interview with the pair offered a bit on how they plan to top the action of the first film:

“We have ideas for days and without blinking twice we know we can outdo the action from the original. It’s the matter of story and how much you like the character. That’s always the most important. If there’s great action but you have a character that no one likes and doesn’t have charisma you’re not going to watch it… So we want to make sure we have a story and a character that everybody loves and then we’ll dress it with action that we promise will be awesome.”

This is something we can certainly get behind, as the action in the film – while filmed amazingly – played second fiddle to Wick’s own struggle with losing his entire world in such a short period of time. The only problem we could foresee at this time would be attempting to replicate or surpass that emotional push that drove him back into the business of killing in the first place.
