MST3K Announces New Mad Scientist & Henchman

Hello, People of Earth.

There have been some developments since we last visited the Mystery Science Theater 3000 Kickstarter campaign, most notably Joel Hodgson’s announcement of who will play the new Mad Scientist and henchman.

Beloved queen of nerds and The Guild star Felicia Day will be taking over the mad scientist role as Kinga Forrester, daughter of Dr. Forrester. The role of her henchman will be played by none other than comedian Patton Oswalt (Justified, Agents of SHIELD).

The importance of this casting can’t be overlooked. When Hodgson announced that they would be moving on from the original cast, it opened the possibility of a major flop with both new audience and die-hard MSTies. But with Day and Oswalt as the official choices, they’ve made a slam dunk, home run, and a touchdown all in one. If there was a sport where such a thing existed, it would be the only thing on tv more entertaining than this show’s revival.

Even more exciting is the news that Oswalt will not only be acting, but writing riffs for the show as well. This honestly solidifies my faith in the campaign; by signing a comedic heavyweight like Patton Oswalt to their writing staff, they’ve proven that this is a serious attempt to bring back this show for good by making a product of the utmost quality.

The Kickstarter has recently hit the 3.3 million mark necessary to make 6 episodes, and is striving to raise the rest needed to make a full 12 episode season.
