Walt Disney Pictures has released a new TV spot showing off the photo-realistic elements of Jon Favreau’s live-action adaptation of Rudyard Kipling’s classic adventure tale The Jungle Book, as well as a series of images featuring the film’s cast posing next to their CGI counterparts.
The minute-long spot also brings out the immensely realistic recreation of the jungle and it’s residents, showing us effects of the state-of-the-art technology used for the movie. It certainly delivers on spectacle and is a return for Favreau to tent-pole films since his departure into mid-budget filmmaking with Chef. Take a look at the new TV spot for yourself:
Disney has also released a new set of cast photos showcasing the film’s cast casually posing with their much larger (and rather impressive) CGI characters. The photos feature Idris Elba with Shere Khan, Scarlett Johansson with Kaa, Lupita Nyong’o with Raksha, Ben Kingsley with Bagheera, Christopher Walken with King Louie and Giancarlo Esposito with Akela. Take a look at the promo photos, and theatrical posters below:
Of all the cast promo photos Idris Elba’s one in particular is damn fine. Just when you thought the man couldn’t be anymore of a cool SOB, he’s posed beside a gigantic, photo-realistic tiger he just so happens to also voice. It’s a shame that both Neel Sethi, the young boy who’ll play the lead role of Mowgli (guessing it’s because he has no “animated counterpart”?) and Bill Murray alongside Baloo the bear are not present, but with April 15th just around the corner it won’t be long before we get a very good look at the “Bear Necessities”.
Here is the film’s official synopsis just in case you’re not familiar with any iteration of The Jungle Book:
Directed by Jon Favreau (“Chef,” “Iron Man,” “Elf”), based on Rudyard Kipling’s timeless stories and inspired by Disney’s classic animated film, “The Jungle Book” is an all-new live-action epic adventure about Mowgli (newcomer Neel Sethi), a man-cub who’s been raised by a family of wolves. But Mowgli finds he is no longer welcome in the jungle when fearsome tiger Shere Khan (voice of Idris Elba), who bears the scars of Man, promises to eliminate what he sees as a threat. Urged to abandon the only home he’s ever known, Mowgli embarks on a captivating journey of self-discovery, guided by panther-turned-stern mentor Bagheera (voice of Ben Kingsley), and the free-spirited bear Baloo (voice of Bill Murray). Along the way, Mowgli encounters jungle creatures who don’t exactly have his best interests at heart, including Kaa (voice of Scarlett Johannsson), a python whose seductive voice and gaze hypnotizes the man-cub, and the smooth-talking King Louie (voice of Christopher Walken), who tries to coerce Mowgli into giving up the secret to the elusive and deadly red flower: fire.
And in case you missed it, here is the first trailer, released back in September…
Do you plan on seeing The Jungle Book when it hits theaters on April 15th or do you plan to skip this one altogether? After all, Captain America: Civil War would only be three weeks off by then.
