Altered Innocence has released a new US trailer for the film, Knife + Heart. The film tells the story of a queer porn producer in the late-70s that becomes frightened when her actors are being murdered by a masked killer. The film goes under the title Un couteau dans le Coeur in France, which translates directly to A knife In The Heart.
After Anne (Vanessa Paradis) produces third-rate gay porn, her editor and lover Lois leaves her, she tries to win her back by shooting her most ambitious film yet with her trusted, flaming sidekick Archibald. But one of her actors is brutally murdered and Anne gets caught up in a strange investigation that turns her life upside-down. This film is as campy and transgressive as you might think, and a wild ride for those who are looking for it.

The film showcases some crazy visuals reminiscent of the Giallo craze of the sixties and seventies but with a certain eighties-excess flare. Think if Pedro Almodóvar directed a retro slasher with a ton of unabashed queer content. The director has also described the film as an “ultra-stylish and blood-soaked ode to ’70s-era De Palma, Argento, and Friedkin.” Friedkin directed the notorious Al Pacino-starrer Cruising back in 1980. Critical reaction to that film was highly negative upon its initial release, and LGBT activists publicly protested against Cruising. However, critical opinion has warmed somewhat over the years as the film has been reassessed. Knife + Heart looks to follow in the path that film has now opened up.
Directed by French filmmaker Yann Gonzalez, his second feature film after making You And The Night previously, as well as a number of short films, the film premiered at the Cannes Film Festival last year, and also played at Fantastic Fest, AFI Fest, Morbido Film Fest, and the Reykjavik, London, Adelaide, and Brooklyn Horror Film Festivals. The screenplay is written by Yann Gonzalez & Cristiano Mangione.
Knife + Heart also features a full score from musical group M83, who have a unique connection to this film. Director Gonzalez is a former member of the electronic musical group, which is led by his brother Anthony. The brothers previously collaborated on the film You And The Night, which once again featured M83 music. Not to mention that the film is shot on 35mm, giving it an added level of texture perfectly suited for its subject matter.
