Do You Think “The Amazing Spider-Man” Is Going To Suck? Well, Sony Does.

When the preview for The Amazing Spider-Man was released a couple of months back, many people were both confused and disappointed by the trailer’s apparent lack of excitement and promise. That skepticism has followed the film up until now and many fans of the original trilogy are crying for the touch of Sam Raimi once again.

But it seems like moviegoers aren’t the only ones who aren’t thrilled by the film’s trailer. The rumor mill has recently churned out the opinions of execs over at Sony. “Inside sources” claim they despise this film. Gammasquad.uproxx.com reports:

“Of course, regardless of what they think of Amazing Spider-Man, Sony is already moving ahead on a sequel, because come on, it’s Spider-Man, but tellingly the sequel will have an all-new writing team (Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman, of Star Trek and the Transformers movies). I wouldn’t be surprised to see director Marc Webb also end up on the trash heap if Amazing isn’t received well.”

Personally, I think this is another instance of studios thinking quantity over quality. The previews that I saw for the film impressed me simply because of how true it stayed to the comics. From the story of Peter Parker’s parents, to the devices he has to use to correctly shoot his webs, I feel like The Amazing Spider-Man is going to be for all the fans of the comics who felt cheated when Raimi’s trilogy refused to acknowledge some of the finer plot points in the comic (cough, cough, Gwen Stacy came before Mary-Jane Parker, cough, cough).

Granted, this reboot is coming fairly soon after Spider-Man 3, but I’m interested to see how (500) Days of Summer director Marc Webb handles such a high-risk production. And when I say high-risk, I do so for two different reasons. On the financial side of things, he needs to make enough money to not only break even for the budget, but for the marketing and all that good stuff. It’s no secret that this is a pretty big chunk o’change. But, on the critical side, he’s got to not only make up for Spider-Man 3, he has to convince fans to like his version just as much, if not more than the original Raimi Spidey, something that is near impossible.

My hat is off to him. Here’s to the shred of hope that remains for The Amazing Spider-Man, who is up against The Avengers and The Dark Knight Rises, two films that are trying very hard to take the title of highest gross of 2012.

Prometheus Delivers a New Trailer; Spoiler Alert: It’s Awesome.

I cannot tell if I am getting lazier with my posts, or if any sort of exposition from myself just does not do what I am covering any justice. So we will go straight to the new trailer and then I will deliver my thoughts:

This looks goooooooooddd…..I have to say, this is going to be one helluva summer. With all the trailers and the kick-off being Avengers this weekend for the summer movie season, I am just pumped. I mean, you get Charlize here, creepy Fassbender, the dude from the Wire, the dude from 24, and a friggin’ Alien prequel. And it has a freakin’ Cobra/Alien hybrid. I hate snakes due to two things:

1.) Watching Indiana Jones as a kid. Completely screwed me up from childhood.
2.) Watching Pee-Wee’s Big Adventure when he runs out of the pet shop with all those small snakes. I saw that AFTER Indiana Jones. That effin’ ruined me for life.

So yeah, this movie will creep the bejesus out of me and it’s about damn time. Now watch the trailer again to figure out if the foreign Girl with the Dragon Tattoo is going to hack her way out of this mess.

MGM’s Official Offer to Julianne Moore for “Carrie” Remake

We already knew that Julianne Moore’s name was in the mix for potentially playing the role of Margaret White in the new “Carrie” remake. According to Deadline.com, Moore has been officially offered the role of the crazy mom with an absolutely insane personality.

Margaret White is the role of Carrie’s mother. She is very religious, but not the singing, laughing, church carnival type of religious, or even the bible-thumping door-to-door lunch interrupters… the out of her mind insane type.

The remake will be directed by Kimberly Peirce. If Moore takes this role, it could mean an Oscar nomination for her, as it did in 1976 for Piper Laurie who played Margaret White.

“This Is 40” Has A Trailer…And It’s Awesome

We all knew it was going to happen, and now that it has, I couldn’t be more grateful. Pete and Debbie, the wonderfully bitter couple from 2007’s Knocked Up finally have their own movie. All I can say is it’s about damn time, Judd! This hilarious preview only solidifies my anticipation and gives me even more of a reason to be excited for the actual movie.

Val Kilmer’s On A BMX…and Of Course, Harmony Korine is Directing

In one of the oddest trailers I’ve ever seen, Val Kilmer stars in one of three shorts that make up The Fourth Dimension. His short, entitled Lotus Community Workshop, focuses on Hector, played by Kilmer himself. Hector is a motivational speaker who is quite awful at his job. Besides that, there’s not much else we can discern from this art-comedy directed by the one and only Harmony Korine. You probably know the work of Harmony Korine through such family-friendly fare as KidsGummo, Mister Lonely, and who could forget, Trash Humpers.

It may seem like I’m mocking Korine’s work, but quite the contrary. I’m a huge fan of the guy and I think he has a really interesting way of depicting inner peace through outer chaos. I’m excited to see what he does with Kilmer’s character, but I’m even more pumped for his 2013 film Spring Breakers. Starring my wife, Selena Gomez, there’s not much known right now about the film except for the fact that it’s about four college girls who end up in jail trying to rob a restaurant to fund spring break. But knowing Korine’s style of filmmaking, it’s gonna get messy.

Now, let me reiterate that Lotus Community Workshop is just one of three films that makes up The Fourth Dimension. The other two films are directed by Aleksei Fedorchenko and Jan Kwiecinski. To be perfectly honest I have no idea what the other two films about or what they’re called. I’m just waiting to see all the interesting moments in the trailer come together in three parts. The film premiered at the San Francisco International Film Festival on April 20th, and at the Tribeca Film Festival on April 24th.
