The Purge: Election Year – Official Trailer

We’ve played a lot of Purge games this evening…

The success of 2013’s futuristic slasher flick The Purge seemed to promise a whole slew of sequels to come, not uncommon for the genre.

A year later we got The Purge: Anarchy. This time a little less horror, a little more action-thriller, we saw Purge Night from outside the relative safety of the home. No Lena Headey or Ethan Hawke, but rather characters who weren’t able to make it home before the siren, and for that, many of them didn’t survive the night. The second movie instead introduced us to Sergeant Barnes, played by Frank Grillo. You might recognize Grillo from the two most recent Captain America movies, or Kingdom – the stellar MMA show for which he is the lead. Well, Barnes recused some unfortunate souls and survives the night. Apparently playing hero worked for him, because now with the franchise’s third installment coming, he’s back and looking to protect Senator Charlene Roan in her run for President.

Dr. Kronner on Culture Junkies! The MCU Lead-up to Civil War…

Last night I was invited to participate in a discussion about the Marvel Cinematic Universe to this point, and how it’s been used to set up the events in the upcoming Captain America: Civil War.

As Civil War is one of the most anticipated movies of the year, the guys over at Culture Junkies have devoted the entire week to topics surrounding the film. I was happy to be involved.

Nathan Fillion to Appear In Guardians Of The Galaxy 2?

Oh Marvel Entertainment, you do seem to have a knack for casting.

Chris Pratt is one example of this. He perfectly encapsulates the cocky and slightly stupid character that is the almighty StarLord. Once you see Pratt in that role it really is hard to even imagine anyone else portraying that character.

Pratt and his amazing castmates, as well as some sharp writing and great direction made Guardians of the Galaxy a huge success, and Marvel will be hoping that Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 2 (which is currently filming at the moment) will be just as big a hit. Director James Gunn does not look like he is going to disappoint either. Gunn recently made a casting decision that, if nothing else, will make a majority of fandom fans insanely happy.

Is Dredd Coming Back on NetFlix?

I am the law.

One of the greatest travesties in recent geekdom was the financial failure of the 2012 release of Dredd. Written and produced by Alex Garland (Ex Machina), and starring Karl Urban (Star Trek) and Lena Headey (Game of Thrones), Dredd corrected all the major wrongs perpetrated by the 1995 Sylvester Stallone led Judge Dredd. The film, one of the best of 2012, is estimated to have cost a modest (for a comic book movie) $35-50 million to produce, and pulled back only about $13 million during its theatrical run in the US ($41 million worldwide). Now the movie did find life in the secondary market with Blu-ray and On Demand rentals, making another $18 million or so, but it wasn’t enough for the studio to greenlight a sequel.

Fast forward a few years to last week, when the internet was all abuzz about a possible Dredd revival in the form of a NetFlix series.
