CCI 2012: Sneak Peek at 2 Minutes of Dexter Season 7!

If you are anything like me, you are probably losing what’s left of your sanity awaiting the return of Dexter on Showtime. September 30th is taking forever to arrive! Well, my fellow serial-killer lovers, this should help you survive:

I have speculated many times what Deb’s reaction would be to finding Dexter, however, in none of my speculations did I ever consider the way Travis was strapped down in saran wrap might trigger a very negative reaction from Deb, who was strapped down the same way by her former fiance’/Dexter’s brother Brian. I have so many questions… and yet I feel somewhat more content after seeing this. At least I know for sure that they aren’t going to blow it off, and she does officially know he has killed…well… at least once.

Dexter season 7 premieres, of course, September 30th on Showtime.

Ray Stevenson Cast in Dexter’s 7th Season

The show that lets us all stroke our dark side has a new cast member. Showtime’s serial killer drama Dexter is welcoming Ray Stevenson (Thor, G.I. Joe: Retaliation) to the show. According to LeftHandHorror Stevenson will play Issac, a Russian criminal who travels to Miami to figure out who killed one of the members of his organization. I don’t know if it is going to be another one of those situations like with Mos Def as Brother Sam. I got attached to his character, I was interested in the perspective he could give Dexter… at one point, I even thought that I would see Brother Sam kill with Dexter… but then he died. In fact, just about every interesting character on Dexter dies, other than obviously Dexter and his sister Deb.

Dexter: Season 6, Episode 11- “Talk to the Hand”

This episode begins with a frenzy of Miami Metro officers at the boat where wormwood is being prepared. They find Holly Benson’s body. When they find “Dooms Day Adam” on the boat dead (Dexter’s doing), Louis points out that he told Angel about him as a possible lead the day before. Quinn was supposed to go with Angel, but he was not answering his phone. Deb now figures that Batista has run into Travis (BINGO!).

Travis sent Beth (the wife of Dooms Day Adam) out to the Miami Metro Police Department. She is carrying a detonator with the poisonous gas in it, which will kill her, but also everyone in the building.

SPOILERS AHEAD>>>

Travis was very close to shooting Angel when Quinn showed up armed. The house was on fire, but Batista got out okay. Travis got away. Showing up at that exact moment was the one thing that Quinn has done that was not a complete douchebag move. Also, I would like to mention that Quinn used to be attractive. Now… well… he looks like a floating turd.

As Beth sets the detonator off releasing the gas, Dexter was stalking Adam online. He noticed that he’d passed Beth in the waiting area and tackled her. He threw her into an empty room and held the door closed while Deb evacuated the building.

Dex left Harrison with Jamie and booked them a room at the Ritz, so that if Travis tries to find him. Homeland Security is now working with Miami Metro, so Dexter has time to try to get to Travis. Travis has apparently taken over some random couple’s home. They had an adorable kitty!

Deb has dinner with Deputy Chief Matthews after knowing that he was the john in the room when the call girl died. He explains that he really was there, and Deb agrees to let it go.

At this point in this episode, Deb is at her therapist’s office. Her therapist brings up something that I have thought since she first began talking to the shrink. The therapist mentioned that Deb talks about him a whole lot. Also that Deb might have more feelings about her brother than she is willing to admit. Deb gets pissed off and walks away.

Louis tells Dexter that he is thankful for his honesty about the video game he made. Dex blows him off, as he always does. The next thing we see is Louis packaging up the Ice Truck Killer prosthetic and making the label to Dexter Morgan. I called that shit.

Dexter sends Travis a video text which clearly showed the name of his boat “Slice of Life” in the background.

Deb confronts LaGuerta about how she knows Maria used her to get Matthews out of his office and to retirement. The next scene shows Deb dreaming about making out with Dexter. Awkward.

Dexter sees Travis on the boat and goes to attack him. Just as he does that, Dex gets a dizzy spell and a nose bleed… some of the side-effects from inhaling some of the poisonous gas. Travis injects the needle into Dexter’s arm and puts him on a boat. Travis lights the lake on fire along with Dexter’s boat. Somehow, Dex escapes and swims up to fresh air.

Talk to the Hand is one of the best episodes of this season. My heart is beating much too fast right now. I am shocked that Dexter didn’t immediately go to the ER knowing that he was going to have to chase down Travis. Also, the fact that he can usually tell when someone has a dark side, and is blowing off Louis, is interesting. Clearly, this Louis thing is not just for attention. The preview for the next episode shows Travis holding Harrison… did Louis help some way in that? I am so excited that I am actually a little dizzy.

This was a 5/5. The preview for next week looks like a 5/5 episode, also. I hope it doesn’t disappoint!

Here is a preview of next week’s episode: “This is the Way the World Ends“. (Thanks for getting Britney Spears stuck in my head!)

Dexter: Season 6, Episode 10 – “Ricochet Rabbit”

RECAP: Episode 10 begins where episode 9 left off. Dexter is underground where he found Gellar and discovered that Travis is the only killer.

Travis runs outside and sees Gellar, who tells Travis that he did kill him. Dexter watches from downstairs through a window. Harry pops in behind Dexter for a little humor, seeing someone who isn’t there.Dexter cuts off Gellar’s hand to keep the police focused on him and not Travis. This is the dark Dexter I’ve missed.

Miami Metro circles in on the abandoned church where Travis has been taking victims and where Dexter found Gellar. They also found Travis’ psych evaluation, saying that he has been a sociopath since he was young, and probably killed his parents. It is in his blood… sound familiar?

Travis finds two of his loyal followers, a husband and wife, and visits them. They found Holly, a potential victim of Travis who he mistakenly let free. They kidnapped her on her boyfriend’s yacht. Dexter found a photo of the yacht, the ricochet rabbit, and left for the marina. Too late… Travis and his disciples already got to her. They also got wormwood… what I am assuming is the poison they are going to unleash to end the world.

Deb is still investigating the call girl case. She finds a flower delivery note, and calls the flower company. She finds out that Matthews sent the call girl flowers the day that she died.

Angel showed up at the house of the disciples. He interrogated the wife, but she said the posts were a joke. Angel notices the books by Gellar on the bookshelf, and Travis hits him over the head. Travis says that it is a sign and that they should unleash wormwood at the Miami Metro police department. Dexter found the poison gas on the yacht and called 9-1-1.

1. HOLY SHIT! Angel got knocked the F out by Travis.

2. Travis is going to see that Dexter works at Miami Metro. He would undoubtedly out him.

3. Will 911 matter at this point? They might be able to keep the poison that was on the boat from getting out, but Travis obviously would have more at his disposal.

4. Dexter was being a badass again… and then he called the police. He has been so sloppy this season that this episode made me think that he was getting back to his old ways. He was entertaining me until he called the cops. I guess it is the safer thing to do, but that doesn’t make it any less disappointing. I was sure he’d take care of things by himself.

5. I still think that Louis is somehow linked to Brian Moser. From the moment I saw him, I thought that it looked like they picked someone who looked like Dexter’s late brother. Add the fact that he is obsessed with Dexter’s approval and also secretly has the ice truck killer’s prosthetic in his home, and I am almost sure of it.

As always, I will barely be able to breathe until the next episode of Deter. Until then, I will tack a rating of a big fat 4.5/5 on this episode. Absolutely well done. The only real problem I have is that Dexter is wishy washy. He acts like he is taking everything into his own hands, but then turns things over to the police. And no, I am not letting that go. I loved episode 10!

Dexter: Season 6, Episode 8 – “Sin of Omission”

RECAP and REACTION:

When Dexter goes to apologize to Deb for leaving for five days when she specifically said that he couldn’t, she informs Dexter of the victim who got away from the “Dooms Day Killer”. He knows now that Travis is no longer his secret, which is unfortunate.

When I see Travis in his sister’s home making him breakfast, it makes me feel very sorry for him. He seems like a tortured soul. He is having a horrible battle with his conscience and it is very obvious. Brother Sam’s funeral would be a very sad and emotional moment for me, had I had time to get attached to his character. Regardless, funerals are always sad. Brother Sam left his Holy Bible to Dexter. He had it when he was shot, so there is some of his blood on the good book. Dexter contemplates whether Brother Sam brought out some light in him. He didn’t kill Jonah, he didn’t kill Travis. When Dexter confronts Travis, he tells him that what Dex told him in his car made him think that he doesn’t have to listen to Professor Gellar anymore. Looks like Dexter did pass some of that light on to Travis. Dexter also old Travis that he has to help him find Gellar. The former Dooms Day assistant tells Dex that Gellar is crazy and will finish his mission.

Dexter performs his magic at a crime scene once again. It is inspiring to see how he can tell a story by glancing at a crime scene. It was an overdose, but he can tell minute details at a glance. (I know that this has nothing whatsoever to do with the show, but I feel obligated to say that I wish Dexter had been with the Seattle Police during the time of Kurt Cobain’s murder… erm… death.) He impresses Louis (Masuka’s intern) back at the station, who is currently seeing Jamie (Angel’s sister, Dexter’s nanny).

Dexter finds an angle to reach Travis with when he quotes the bible. The sin of omission: Travis must help them reach Gellar, for if he does not, he is just as guilty as the professor. I don’t know how I feel about Dexter using scripture to try to reach a man who he is going to kill. That is one of the things I love about this show… it makes me ponder about my own beliefs, and what I would do in a similar situation. After this, Deb confronts Travis’s sister at her home about Travis. She noticed his name on the list of Gellar’s students. Lisa says that Travis is acting like his same old self and Deb leaves.

When Dexter gives Deb the lab report she asked for, she looks for a pen and finds one in his bag. This particular pen is from the Shady Lane Motel in Nebraska, which is where Trinity’s family was killed. He admits to going there and talking to Jonah. He says it was because they both lost people they loved to Trinity, forgetting that Lundy was killed by Trinity.

The Whore of Babylon was proudly displayed for Miami Metro, with Travis’s sister as the whore. Gellar safety-pinned Deb’s card to Lisa which they found on her. Travis has now jumped to the top of Miami Metro’s most wanted list as Gellar’s accomplice. Gellar now has Travis chained up.

LaGuerta was pushing to make Deb close the Jessica Morris case (dead prostitute, OD’d, there was a man in the room, LaGuerta does NOT give a crap about that) to help her close rate. However, after Deb walks away, LaGuerta has a suspicious yet brief phone conversation alluding to the fact that she has something to hide.

As much as I love Deb, I have a whole shit-ton of sympathy for her. The poor girl has already been through so much with her father, the ice truck killer, her relationships, LaGuerta, and now she is in therapy and Dexter is taking advantage of her as his boss. The therapist tells Deb to make some effort to focus on Dexter and his issues when they meet up next.

Dexter found a name on the robe used at the Whore of Babylon scene. He went to find Father Golloway, a priest who suffers from severe dementia. The priest asks Dexter, who he thinks is someone else from his past, to confess all of his sins. Dexter tells the priest that he has killed a lot of people. The priest absolves Dexter of his sins, which seems to shock him. during the visit, he speaks with a nun who tells Dexter about the Father’s abandoned church where he used to lead mass. Then, we see the little light bulb turn on above Dexter’s head. An abandoned church. He goes to visit, and sees Travis chained up. Gellar sees Dexter and escapes.

Michelle’s Beef:

“Sin of Omission” was a great connecting episode. I do have some beef with a few things. First off, how does Deb not notice that the only link between her and the shitty things which have happened to her is Dexter? Also, how did Dexter get away with the whole Nebraska trip? He admitted to going only after she found evidence, and his explanation was that he grieved with Jonah. Who would believe that? If that is not the biggest slap in the face to his sister, I don’t know what else would be. Oh yes I do… it happened at the end of the episode.

Deb was cooking up steaks at Dexter’s house when he got home. She is trying to do what her therapist suggested, to patch up her relationship with her brother. However, he tells her that something came up, he cannot tell her what it is, and leaves. Deb is the best detective on this show. She works at the job, at home, and is constantly thinking like a detective. What should have happened is: as Dexter pulled up to the church she should have been pulling up right behind him. Why, if she is this great detective and cares so much about her brother’s well-being, did she let him leave?

Lastly, I would just like to point out that in the last review, I mentioned that Dexter is getting sloppy. The pen was a rookie mistake. In the beginning seasons, Dexter would never have kept a souvenir from a secret trip. Also, what happens if the Miami homicide department gets Travis Marshall into their interrogation room and he sees Dexter? Does Dexter think that Travis is so trustworthy that he wouldn’t say anything? His sister is dead… he only has himself to look out for now. Dexter failed to protect his sister. I feel like it is only a matter of time before Deb or someone else close to him finds something out.

Overall, this episode was interesting and exciting, as most of the episodes are. I give “Sins of Omission” 3 1/2 Grizzly’s out of 5.
