Welcome to Hero Express, your one-stop shop through the news filled world of superhero’s in Film, TV, Video Games and whatever else floats your boat.
This is the Hero Express for June 27, 2011:
WB planning on a Green Lantern sequel – (Splashpage)
Despite a recent 66% drop at the box office, it looks like Warner Brothers is moving forward with the Green Lantern franchise. And despite what I thought of the first movie, this is a good idea. The best story possible was hinted at the end of GL, and Mark Strong deserves his chance to really bring us Sinestro.
Here’s a cool featurette on the making of OA – (TrailerAddict)
Powers Pilot Casts Retro Girl – (SpinoffOnline)
Retro Girl, the murder that sets our already cast Detectives onto their first mission as partners has been cast.
In an interview Friday on Sirius Satellite Radio’s Geektime, Bendis revealed that model and T-Mobile spokeswoman Carly Foulkes will play the character, whose homicide marks the first case for new partners Christian Walker and Deena Pilgrim. Foulkes joins Jason Patric as Walker, Lucy Punch as Deena Pilgrim, Charles S. Dutton as Captain Cross andBailee Madison as Calista.
Christopher Meloni Cast in Man of Steel – (Splashpage)
Meloni finally leaves the set of Law & Order: SVU to join up with Zack Snyder‘s take on Superman, but it isn’t the role most thought when the news hit. Immediately people were figuring Meloni to take on the role of Lex Luthor, Supes arch nemesis, but that isn’t true. Looks like he will be playing a General. A General in a major role of some kind. Hopefully it will be General Randy Freakshow:
Hawkeye Stuntman Scalps Himself On Set of The Avengers – (TMZ)
At least the scene it happens in sounds kind of cool, but why was Hawkeye the one being hit with an arrow? Here’s the report:
Stuntman Jeremy Fitzgerald tells TMZ, his job was simple — get hit with an arrow and fall 30 feet off a building … but he caught his foot on the way down, and slammed his head into the brick … leaving behind a freshly peeled slab of scalp.
But it could have been a LOT worse — according to Jeremy, he narrowly missed a razor sharp rain gutter during the accident.
And if all that wasn’t badass enough — Jeremy tells us, he went right back to work after the fall … no hospital, no stitches … just a bandage.

Matthew Vaughn Directing Millar’s War Heroes? – (GeekTyrant)
It seems like everything Mark Millar creates sees it’s way onto the big screen as he already has Kick-Ass and Kick-Ass 2 under his wing, both helmed by Matthew Vaughn (X-Men: First Class) as well as a few other secret projects underway. So the latest rumor from Millar is that Vaughn will be directing an adaptation of War Heroes, which tells the story of US Soldiers given pills which imbue them with super powers.
Any fan of Millar’s would be excited to see this made, I just hope Hollywood doesn’t flood the theater with Millar projects, at least not yet.
Greatest Captain America Toy Ever! – (GeekTyrant)
Growing up, I never had a really good Cap toy. It was either the toy was good but the shield was shit, or the shield was good but the toy was shit. So while this may just be a prototype from Hot Toys, it looks pretty amazing. Heres a few pics of it in ‘action’ with a ton more at the link:
The Dark Knight Rises Set Photos – (Batman-News)
We get our first look since Batman Begins at the newly constructed Wayne Manor, as well as a look at a graveyard, which may lean towards an iconic scene that has been missing from Nolan‘s bat films. Namely Wayne visiting his parents grave, which he does at least every year, if not more. You can check out more photos at the link, and the ones I will show you are courtesy of SuperHeroHype:
Shia LaBeouf Wants to Play Arseface in Preacher – (Splashpage)
I have been dying to see a Preacher adaptation in one form or another, and director DJ Caruso has expressed interest, even giving us an idea of his cast list here, which included Chris Pine as Jesse Custer and Alex Pettyfer as the Saint of Killers. Shia LaBeouf has made no secret of his desire to play Arseface, and discusses it with MTV News:
“I love the [‘Preacher’] comics,” LaBeouf told MTV News. “I think Arseface would be awesome.”
Still, that doesn’t mean he’s a step away from playing the role. In fact, he’s still not certain where his future lies after Michael Bay’s “Transformers” franchise wraps up with “Dark of the Moon.”
“I’m still a hired gun,” he exaplained. “I don’t know what I’m going to do next.”
LaBeouf added that, while he’s seen a few pages of the “Preacher” script, John August’s adaptation is still very much a work in progress.
“He’s got a couple of pages he sent, but no full script yet,” said the actor.
