In a recent appearance on Movie Fights, a great show over on the Screen Junkies YouTube channel, screenwriter Max Landis (Chronicle, American Ultra) pitched his vision for Man of Steel 2 and it is interesting to say the least. Landis and the other guests were asked to pitch their direct sequel to Man of Steel as if the upcoming Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice didn’t exist. The guys over at Screen Junkies then put together a video of the pitch using the original footage from the show edited together with various clips to give you a sort of visual representation, and it’s awesome. Just watch it. Seriously.
Even if you didn’t care for the pitch (though I’m not sure what’s not to like considering it has to be a direct sequel to Man of Steel), you have to be impressed that it was done completely off the top of his head and on the fly.
Now, this isn’t the first time Landis has chimed in with his thoughts on Superman. Man of Steel may have been enough of a commercial success for Warner Bros. to move forward with the DC Cinematic Universe, but opinion among long time Superman fans was divided, Landis among them. In the wake of the film’s release in 2013 he was pretty outspoken about his thoughts on the movie, and who Superman really is before closing with a succinct indictment on the state of superhero movies on a whole.
For some more fun stuff with Max Landis check out this pitch he did on the Schmoes Know Movies Show recently. I can’t really say anything about it to preface it for you without ruining it but I promise it’s a fun idea.
So what do you think of Landis’ ideas? Love ’em? Hate ’em? Leave a comment and let us know! Also be sure to check the Schmoes Know and Screen Junkies YouTube channels for their full episodes with Max Landis for more.
