Gambit Removed From the 2016 Roster

Gambit has had a rough start from the get go. From fumbling around with directors to unhappy actors prior to any sort of production, Fox’s would be golden-child was looking like it may be more of a dud than anything else. However, while we have a bit more of a wait now for the Channing Tatum vehicle than before, it seems to be a blessing for the production of this film.

Gambit was originally slated to be released in the fall of this year, but has now been officially taken off the 2016 roster and is, we assume, being put on the 2017 one. Thankfully, with the success of Deadpool, Fox was able to give Gambit a bit of breathing room as production hasn’t even started for the film.

That being said, Fox has also added two new release dates for currently unknown X-Men movies; October 6th, 2017 and January 12th, 2018. One of these could be the Gambit release or the post credit announced Deadpool sequel. The other option is that one of the dates could be the release of the highly rumored and discussed X-Force movie that Fox has not officially greenlit, but probably will.

As we all know, all these movies are set to exist in the same universe so I’m sure there is a bit of weaving to do on the production and story end. What movies we get for those two dates are up for speculation, but I like the direction they’re going in with the X-Men.

X-Men: Apocalypse is set for its release in May of this year, which will conclude the Bryan Singer trilogy. This will potentially open the door for more stand-alone features and other X-type movies. The X-Men franchise is probably one of Fox’s best investments, and lends itself to a huge amount of source material to work with. Let’s hope we get more movies like Deadpool and fewer like The Fantastic Four.
