Die Hard 5: New Rumors About “John McClane Jr”

So last month we told you about the upcoming 5th installment of the Die Hard franchise – A Good Day to Die Hard, and we had some casting suggestions as to who we’d like to see play McClane’s son. Well now rumors are surfacing about the front-runners for said role, and they appear to have totally ignored me. But that’s fine, I’m gonna go opening night anyhow.

So here are, according to The Hollywood Reporter, the front-runners:

Die Hard 5, which is now called A Good Day to Die Hard, will attempt to find the young man to play Bruce Willis‘ son, with frontrunners Liam HemsworthAaron Paul, and Ben Foster among those who will take part in chemistry reads with Willis, reprising his role of John McClane, on November 12 and 13. (We¹re hearing the part of Hemsworth’s to lose.)

So, they think that Liam Hemsworth (Thor‘s little brother and upcoming star of the Hunger Games) has the role barring a terrible screen test. I have to say, that even though I didn’t name any of these guys on my list, I’d be fine with any of the 3. And while I’m pretty apathetic towards Hemsworth, I actually really like the other 2.

Aaron Paul of course is the co-star of AMC’s Breaking Bad, and I’m a big fan, but my pick of the 3 would be Foster.

Ben Foster, though starting out on the Disney Channel with Flash Forward, he went on to star in action movies like Hostage (with Bruce Willis) and The Mechanic (with Statham). He also has comic geek cred with his roles in The PunisherX-Men: The Last Stand, and 30 Days of Night

Sounds good to me!

New ‘Mortal Kombat’ Movie Is Coming

Earlier in the year I reported on Mortal Kombat: Legacy and the Launch of the 9th Mortal Kombat game. I thought that was a pretty big deal back then but now it looks like it was just the beginning for the rebirth of the franchise.

In September of this year it was reported that New Line Cinema hired Kevin Tancharoen (Mortal Kombat: Legacy) to direct a new feature length movie based on the franchise. No actors have been confirmed as of yet. I just hope they decide to keep Jeri Ryan as Sonya.

At Comic Con 2011 Tancharoen, along with writer Oren Uziel, and the creator of the franchise Ed Boon stated that we can “expect a very big origin story with the sensibility and realism of Rebirth and Legacy as opposed to the traditional Mortal Kombat mythology.” from the new film.

"Ha ha ha...I don't think so."

Shooting is expected to start in March of 2012 with a release date of 2013.

Did Ubisoft Kill Assassin’s Creed Movie?

Hollywood insiders are saying that the Assassin’s Creed film franchise is guaranteed to fail.

New York Magazine reported that Sony has recently signed a movie deal with Ubisoft to adapt Assassin’s Creed. However, in order to get this deal to happen, Sony just about had to give Ubisoft complete creative control over the project. It’s reported that Ubisoft has final say on budget, cast, script, and even the release date.

An insider is reported as saying, “As a director, even Steven Spielberg cannot get this kind of deal.”, and as a producer he was apparently one of the first to pass on the project because of the demands made by Ubisoft.

I’m a little unsure about Ubisoft’s goals. I can’t tell if they want to make sure that a movie never gets made or if they want to make sure it gets made right. Personally, I have hope that they will prove the naysayers wrong and make a kick ass movie. The cinematics that they produce for their games are almost good enough to be movies on their own.

8 New Character Posters for ‘The Hunger Games’

While movie posters aren’t exactly the most thrilling aspects of a film production, they can do loads for setting the tone and planting a seed in the minds of the public (See the wonderful District 9 posters, for example). Particularly for upcoming movies that haven’t disclosed much footage yet, a poster can be all we have to get an idea of the direction a project is taking, and this is certainly the case with The Hunger Games film, which released a teaser that managed to show absolutely nothing in a minute and six seconds.

However we have been treated to a simply awesome motion poster for the movie in the past, and now we’ve been handed 8 new character posters that feel just perfect, and thank God because some of the casting decisions have seemed way out of left field. Sure, a still photo of a shadowy profile isn’t much to go on, but I never thought Woody Harrelson, Elizabeth Banks or Lenny Kravitz would look right in their roles and yet here we are:

You can find all 8 of the new posters here at IMP Awards. I’m real excited for the Hunger Games trilogy, if you can’t tell.

What do you think of the secretiveness of this, or other movie productions? Like it? Hate it? Think it’s stupid to get all caught up in a picture?

Riddick Sequel Strapped For Cash

According to TMZ the new Chronicles of Riddick movie has been pretty much killed thanks to money problems.

From the sounds of things, money has been a constant issue on the set of the new Riddick film. It has even gotten to the point that Vin Diesel has gone on record to say that he would consider working for scale in order to get an R-rated version of the film made. It’s been reported that the owner of the studio in Montreal where the film is being shot changed all the locks and kicked everyone off the set last Wednesday.

According to Michael Trudel, the owner of the studio, this happened because the production company failed to pay its fees on time.

TMZ is also claiming that “sources connected to production tell us several members of the crew have not been paid in over 2 weeks … and are very concerned about getting their money.”

Now personally I could care less if another Riddick movie gets made. I thought the only movie worth seeing out of the bunch was Pitch Black. Dark Fury was terrible and Chronicles of Riddick wasn’t much better.

“Canada is so cold, please let me back in the studio.”

What do you think?
