Predator vs Judge Dredd vs Aliens
It had to happen eventually. Judge Dredd, the lawman of the future has come across many a foe in his time ranging from fighting Lobo to twisted versions of himself. So it is no surprise when we hear he is soon to go against both the xenomorphic menace of the alien, and the hunting skills of the predator all at the same time.
Dredd himself has fought both of these creatures separately before in Predator vs Judge Dredd and Judge Dredd vs Alien: Incubus, but this is a different story. The news was announced at the Emerald City Comic Con (through Comic Book Resources). Chew writer John Layman will pen Predator vs Judge Dredd vs Aliens, with Chris Mooneyham (Predator Fire and Stone), while Preacher‘s very own Glenn Fabry is on hand for art. The few pages out at the moment (curtsy of io9) look flipping brilliant and can be seen below.
Predator vs. Judge Dredd vs. Aliens is just the sort of concept that would have teenage John Layman wetting his pants with excitement…just at the possibility of reading it. Here, many, many years later, Old Man Layman is writing it, and it’s still every bit as thrilling.
Now if the art above and quote from John Layman don’t grab you, then how about the plot? The story seems to fit all three characters universes perfectly.
The crossover pits the legendary lawman Judge Dredd against the universe’s supreme hunters, the Predators, as they both try to survive an onslaught by the galaxy’s ultimate killing machines, the Aliens!
Judge Dredd and Judge Anderson have tracked a criminal cult across the Cursed Earth and into the Alabama morass, where a mad genetic scientist with destructive designs has acquired the best genes that evolution has to offer—a xenomorph skull!
A Predator, attracted to the warm climate and superior prey, has declared hunting season as he calls for backup. All paths will cross in a mind-blowing sci-fi showdown with the fate of the Earth at stake!”
We will have to wait till summer for a look at the series in its entirety, but so far it looks fantastic. I have always had a soft spot for all three of these characters, as well as team-up stories, so this is right up my alley. To get you as pumped as I am, the gallery below has some of the best examples of Alien and Predator comics, sometimes fighting with each other and sometimes fighting superheroes.
As for Dredd, you can see his team-ups with some of the comic industry’s most notorious as Dredd Vs. Vice Press has done a number of cool prints you can check out. Oddly Archie has met some odd characters in his time too, like the Predator and the Turtles of all people!
For more on the xenomorphs, there are some new Aliens collectibles from Hiyah that might interest you. Dredd fans might be more interested in the animated series called Superfiend, and as for the hunters, medieval Predator stalks the Knights Templar in Dark Ages.
