Pirates of the Caribbean 4: On Stranger Tides – Grizzly Review

Painfully mediocre. That is how I first described Pirates of the Caribbean 4: On Stranger Tides as the credits rolled. Not the worst movie ever, in fact, barely worse than the 3rd movie – but with less disappointment attached to it this time around. Maybe that stems from my low expectations, and because going in I had heard only negative things surrounding this latest installment. Either way, the movie felt a little stale to me. And I know I’m not the biggest Pirates fan out there, but I genuinely enjoyed the first movie, and I thought the 2nd one was alright. But they definitely seemed to get worse as they went for me. This newest installment though seemed to be little more than quick money grab by Disney. Hell, even the girl who came dressed as a pirate seemed underwhelmed…

Mortal Kombat: Legacy – Episode 6

True to form, as soon as I post the last episode a new episode is released. And if you were having doubts about the series from the last 2-parter, prepare to have your faith renewed. While this episode is a little light on the action, it’s a great look into this new gritty world of Mortal Kombat brought to us by Kevin Tancharoen. Don’t take my word for it.

Gamers Gotta Get: Street Fighter X Tekken

Ever since Street Fighter X Tekken was announced last year, fans have been chomping at the bit for it. 2 out of 3 of the biggest fighting games out there, Mortal Kombat being the third, combining to bring us some seriously kick-ass action. I’m excited, Japan is excited, and you should be too. But as always, you don’t need to take my word for it. I bring evidence to the table.

First take a look at the cinematic trailer, which is pretty epic:

Grizzly Review: Bridesmaids

Image (1) megan-h-super-8.jpg for post 10780

I had virtually no expectations going into seeing the movie Bridesmaids.  At best, I would spend some quality time with Kristen Wiig and her deliciously witty sense of humor.  At worst, I would see yet another SNL great succumb to an astronomical cinematic fiasco (though none can hold a candle to the mind-numbing scrapbook of atrocities Eddie Murphy has to his name). If anything, the film’s marketing had me intrigued:  “A Hangover for the girls!”  What in the world does that mean?  That it had the same plot, but the characters have different plumbing?  That it’s a raunchy comedy that appealed more to women?  That The Hangover didn’t appeal to women?  That I was abnormal to be a woman who enjoyed The Hangover?  While I still don’t get the foundation of this particular marketing ploy (other than its ability to attract fans of the Hangover), I will say that I thoroughly enjoyed the film.

Review: South Park – Season 15, Episode 4 ‘T.M.I.’

After the last three lackluster episodes I’m ready for a decent South Park episode and it’s off to a good start. We begin with a good Cartman rant about how the school doesn’t care about them and accusations fly about the school posting everyone’s penis sizes in the hallway. Kyle and Stan disbelieve it, but sure enough there is a poster showing how the students have “Grown” since the last physical. Cartman has a bright idea and the boys make their own list and post it over the school’s. Catman’s of course is the smallest in his class.

Principal Victoria informs Eric that he acts too rashly because of his anger and sends him to therapy, and then anger management. Honestly, the scene with the therapist calling Cartman fat made me laugh harder than any of the first three episodes combined. I need to thank Trey Parker and Matt Stone for getting back to basics, because this episode was great.

The anger management group was funny enough with the tea bagger and white ghetto kid, but when Randy Marsh gets involved it’s just downright classic. He is sent to the group for beating the ever-loving shit out of the Surgeon General for debunking his super complex T.M.I. penis length formula. They dub themselves the ‘Pissed Off and Angry Party’ and apparently people who are so pissed off at the world and the government, are only that way because… they have tiny, tiny dicks. I’ll buy into that. I liked the inclusion of the truck nuts on the last guy’s car by the way, because the people who put those on a vehicle are complete scum.

The episode flew by and I laughed throughout, so to me, that’s a damn good episode. I give this episode a 3 out of 5 bears. It wasn’t a future classic or anything, but it was a vast improvement over the first three episodes. Now I can’t wait until next week because South Park is officially back.
