Beetlejuice Returning to the Big Screen?
Growing up my sister and I had a VHS with both Beetlejuice and Short Circuit 2 on it. We watched the shit out of that tape, and for that reason, I was excited when I heard that Short Circuit was getting some new life breathed into the franchise. I got nostalgic and intrigued, but now, news of a possible Bettlejuice sequel moving forward dwarfs that. Beetlejuice was for sure one of my favorite movies as a kid.
It also spawned a cartoon I actually enjoyed too. Even if it didn’t make any sense…
If you’ve not seen Beetlejuice because you’re either too young or an idiot, let me fill you in. It stars one of the most underrated actors of all-time – Pre-Batman Michael Keaton. He plays a poltergeist for hire who haunts houses for other ghosts. The newly deceased couple that hires him to rid their home of the pesky living who moved in are played by Jack Donaghy Alec Baldwin and Geena Davis.
The family they are trying to push out, the Deetz family, is portrayed by Jeffrey Jones, as his wife Catherine O’Hara, and their daughter, the one who can see the ghosts, is the lovely Winona Ryder.
It’s been 23 years since the first movie came out, and there have been plenty of rumors about a sequel since then. The most recent come from Worst Previews:
We’ve been hearing about a “Beetlejuice” sequel for years. Even Michael Keaton and Geena Davis have been looking for ways to get the second installment off the ground.
Now comes word that David Katzenberg and Seth Grahame-Smith have just signed a two-year first-look producing deal at Warner Bros and one of their first projects is expected to be a sequel to “Beetlejuice.” The new film will not be a remake. The intent is to reboot it by advancing the storyline of the original.
“We first got to know Seth through his fantastic work on ‘Dark Shadows,'” said the studio. “And it immediately became a priority to expand our relationship with him. Seth introduced us to David. We firmly believe in their talents and are extremely excited to welcome them to the Warners family.”
Both Grahame-Smith and Katzenberg were attached as co-directors for “Pride and Prejudice and Zombies,” before Craig Gillespie got the job.
Nike to Produce Marty McFly’s Shoes?
It’s the best idea Nike has had in years, and it’s not at all new. In 1989 film fans everywhere flocked to see Back to the Future: Part II, sequel to the single greatest film ever made. In said film, Marty McFly traveled though time to the year 2015. The future was filled with 3D sequels to movies, books sold in antique shops, and shoes with automatic laces. And while 3D movies are everywhere now, and bookstores are closing left and right, we still hadn’t nailed down the intricacies of the ‘auto lace’. Untill now.
This is from The High Definate:
Last year, word got out that legendary Nike designer Tinker Hatfield and company filed a patent for an Automatic Lacing System similar to the technology featured on the “Marty McFly” Nike Air Mags in Back To The Future II. Since then, fanboys and sneakerheads alike have been speculating that Nike was working on a real-life version of the Air Mags. Speculate no more, because those shits are coming.
Around midnight tonight, members of the media and the fashion world got calls from Nike inviting them out to Los Angeles for a top-secret special event, hosted by Hatfield himself. Following the calls, a video by a YouTube user named DocEmmettBrown88 dropped the following video, showing what appears to be “shelves and shelves of 2011 Nike MAG shoes”.
Here’s the video…
This news was sent to me by several people over the last 12 hours or so as most everyone knows my affinity for the movies, and I wouldn’t be true to myself if this really comes out and I don’t buy a pair. So for the first time ever, Nike is guaranteed some of my cash. Or rather some of my Credit Card company’s cash…
Now bring on that hoverboard!
10 Comic Books Best Suited For The Small Screen
With all the news lately regarding different comic book adaptations heading to TV, I couldn’t help but notice a lack of ‘superhero’ content in the shows. Which is fine, some of the stories like 100 Bullets and of course the smash hit The Walking Dead are great without featuring powers, costumes, any of that.
But that’s not what I’m listing today. I understand the problems with bringing brightly colored costumes and powers every week to the general public, which is made clearer by the numerous attempted hero pilots and TV shows, some of the worst ones we listed here. But there are some heroes out there that I think are perfect for TV.
Here’s the Top Ten Superheroes Suited For The Small Screen:

More News on THE EXPENDABLES 2 – Jet Li and Tom Arnold?
As my dear friend Darth Saeris informed us quite recently, Willis and Schwarzenegger are not only coming back for the Expendables sequel, but they are going to have much larger roles. He also told us that Jet Li would not be returning, and there were rumors that Donnie Yen (Ip Man) would replace him, but that now appears as though Jet Li might appear after all, just in a smaller capacity. And that’s good news. Not because I don’t like Yen, who I actually have the utmost respect for, but because – though sorely underused in the first movie – Li was my favorite character. In addition to Li, it seems Schwarzenegger’s True Lies co-star Tom Arnold might also be popping up, no doubt as comic relief. There is no conformation there yet, but Movieweb recently posted a video where Arnold says he was sent a script by Sly and wants to be involved. In addition to doing True Lies with Schwarzenegger, Arnold also worked with Jet Li before in Cradle 2 The Grave.
The basic plot is as follows:
Plot: After Tool (Mickey Rourke) is brutally murdered on a mission, his comrades swear to avenge him. They’re not the only ones who want blood. Tool’s beautiful young and wild daughter Fiona embarks on her own revenge mission, complicating matters when she is captured and ransomed by a ruthless dictator plotting to destroy a resistance movement. Now Barney (Sylvester Stallone) and the Expendables must risk everything to save her and humanity.
Van Damme is rumored to play a former colleague, who becomes the villain in the film. He’ll be completely covered in tattoos and have his own gang of mercenaries. Adkins is in talks to play one of the mercenaries.
The additions of Chuck Norris and Van Damme to the cast seem only logical. The big surprise is that they weren’t in the first one…

No word yet as to if Veronica Mars alum Cordelia Chase Charisma Carpenter will return. But my guess is no…
