The second season of Gotham, Fox’s successful series inspired by DC’s Batman comics is half way over, but fans are glad to hear the May 9th season finale won’t be the end of Detective Jim Gordon’s time in the spotlight.
Ben McKenzie, who leads the cast as Gordon himself, spilled the beans via Twitter earlier this month that the Gotham team will return for a third season.
The villains have risen on the gritty streets of Gotham.
While Bat boy is working out puberty, Detective Jim Gordon and his partner Harvey Bullock have been busy dealing with the rise and fall of Theo Galavan, and the Penguin has formed an alliance with the Riddler. It’s been a busy first half for the show’s second season. Monday night, the second half of season 2 starts, and it promises plenty more comic baddies before we get our ultimate Dark Knight.
Doctor Who is making headlines once again this month, with show runner Stephan Moffat putting rumors to rest, touching on the return of David Tennant and Catherine Tate as the Tenth Doctor and Donna, and the impending departure of companion Clara Oswald.
Thus far Gotham has ramped up quite a bit in its second season subtitled Rise of the Villains. It’s certainly bringing more and more bad guys to the table by injecting Theo Galavan (James Frain) and his crew into the city of Gotham, which has bolstered Robin Lord Taylor’s great portrayal of Oswald “The Penguin” Cobblepot. That, in conjunction with Cory Michael Smith’s portrayal of Edward Nygma and his continued descent into madness have really pushed the show forward.
The third episode of Gotham‘s second season aired tonight, and it raised some questions while dealing with a lot of familiar bat-tropes; Magic shows, disguised villains, billionaire heroes, etc…
The sophomore season of Gotham has started off pretty strong, the show shifting a larger focus onto the city’s villains. In doing so, they have again proved just how inept most of the GCPD really is. Arkham escapes, police murdered, and the good guys apparently powerless to stop it all.
On the flip side, Gordon is climbing the ranks, with Leslie and Bullock at his side. Bruce and Alfred have discovered the bat-cave, and Lucius Fox has been brought into the fold. And Harvey Dent is sure to be an asset in the coming months. All that said, it really is about the villains now.
Fox gives us a reason to actually look forward to Mondays with the season two premiere of their noir hit Gotham. And this season, Batman Co-Creator Bill Finger gets some long over do credit.
