X-Men: Days of Future Past?
We already reported on the X-Men: First Class sequels release date, but a new rumor has developed that makes me squee a little. The rumor is that the XM: FC sequel may pull from Days of Future Past, which was a short storyline in the classic run by Chris Claremont that has had an incredible lasting impression. Time travel, Sentinels, the end of the X-Men, and the awesome death of Wolverine. Most would probably remember a slightly altered version from X-Men: The Animated Series which featured Bishop, who would be cool to see in the X-Men universe.
One of my little birds Weapon X recently dropped me some information that 20th Century Fox had recently registered the title DAYS OF FUTURE PAST with the MPAA Title Registration Bureau. The Bureau exists for studios and productions companies to stake their claims on certain titles that they intend to release and distribute, so that others can stray from using a similar title.
To the average person, DAYS OF FUTURE PAST might not mean anything, but, if you’re an X-Men fan, you know this feeds directly into that neighborhood of the Marvel Universe.
DAYS OF FUTURE PAST was a two-issue story arc of the X-Men comics, published by Marvel in 1981, that dealt with alternative timelines. In an alternative future, mutants were incarcerated in internment camps. However, the Kitty Pryde of that time transfers her mind to the Kitty Pryde of now in order to prevent that from ever happening. The assassination of Senator Robert Kelly by the Brotherhood is what sets off this chain of events, and now with the X-Men made aware of the future, they must try to stop it from happening and… well, it’s almost like BACK TO THE FUTURE PART II, but with mutants.
Here’s why it would be awesome. Adding time travel to the time spanning X-Men franchise offers a unique way to play off of the movie’s histories, and even opens opportunities for an epic crossover beyond all reason. Picture this. The X-Men: FC sequel features not only the First Class cast, but brings in Wolverine and a few future mutants/X-Men, maybe even Prof. X and Magneto. How epic would that be? Hugh Jackman playing an older Bad ass Wolverine roughing shit up in the First Class timeline. This could all lead in very nicely to Bryan Singer’s X-Men 4. I’ll take a breath here, because I’m practically writing this movie in my head, so we’ll wait to see if this is anything but a rumor.
A Ton of The Amazing Spider-Man
Yep. here are a lot of The Amazing Spider-Man clips. It comes out soon. I think we’ve now seen approx. 1/3 of the movie in released footage. No big deal.
That’s it for this edition!
